Remember what you said about a perfect fort location, with an underground river, a chasm, magma pipe, flux, and different biomes in each corner, including a desert, glacier, forest, and mountain?

I FOUND ONE!!!

And better yet, I can't give you world parameters since I forgot to export them before I embarked :-P

Alas, the map is pretty big - 8x8 at least to get much of everything, and probably 8x12 if you want the HFS.

The trick is to generate worlds with all the varience parameters pretty much maxed out, and with a giant temperature range - -50 to 150 is what I used.  This allows for a fortress map with both freezing and scorching biomes.  If you minimize the vertical dimension of the map, it works all the better.  Also, set the elevation to something like 280 - 320, that will give a lot of squares on the mountain threshold.  Finally, set the weights to things like rainfall and volcanism to favor bath extremes - there's lots of flux in 0-20 volcanism, so if you set the weights high on both ends, but low in the middle, you will get a lot of areas where 0-20 volcanism borders 80-100.  Note that you'll have to set edge oceans and peaks both to zero, since you won't get either with these elevations.

Finally, I hope you enjoy searching for the right spot.  I exported map images and searghed the detailed map in paint shop - with the grid turned on and set to 16x16 - in order to find spots with the correct biomes.  The site finder simply doesn't help if you want a site with high AND low temperatures, for instance.

Hmm... We may have a first - clean dwarves.  I doubt even a dwarf could remain dirty for long in a soap tower!

Maybe it didn't record his new location with respect to fear because he was carried to bed?  Might be something funky with the carried by another code.

620
Could this be some sort of proximity check, i.e. similar to a detection caused by a dwarf physically running into a hidden creature?

URIST9000:  "I'm Sorry, Aryn, I can't do that."

HAD to be said XD

Anyway, I'd like to request a dwarf - 'Keldor', cheesemaker, dreams of making the world's finest cheese.  Likes cats - all types of them.

Better yet, it can be the natural extension of Jools' incomplete weather system! XDDD

My all time favorite engraving:

This is an engraving of a dwarf and toads.  The dwarf is surrounded by the toads.  The dwarf looks terrified

Then I'd love to see a picture of Endok, halfwitted mechanic of Abbeyverse, and legendary elephant trainer.  He has just managed to get himself caught in his own cage trap (true story :P).

Probably means that you are trying to save from inside a game menu.  E.g. from the unit list or fortress overview.

625
The eagle spends its time in the drinking hall with the dwarves.  There's even a point of interest on the map if you want to see for yourself XD

626
Yes, Omega dropped out because of the framerate, and ChazzyBurger lost his to a nasty Trojan, so I believe that leaves Jools' save as the most recent.

Alright, Brendan, you're on the list!

Whew!  just BARELY managed to get the lava restarted in time for the end of my turn!  I even had to have the dwarves pitch a bucket of water over the last square where the 1/7 lava just refused it harden so I could finish the channel.  As the year turned, Ushat was just channeling the last tiles  holding back the lava!

Anyway, I think that the lava should make it all the way across the river this time, so all my successor has to do it stop the flow once the dam is finished.  This means just pulling the lever to turn on the water tower pumps, and the water well do the rest.  Be careful, though, that tower spits out water fast!

Anyway, I'll have the save and the map uploaded shortly.
