DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Worthy opponent?
« on: December 24, 2013, 05:17:34 am »
I once encountered some warlord in the dungeons. And he was probably the most badass bandit I've ever met.

I fought my way through his minions, and then our swords clashed. The fight was damn intense, we were nearly equal in skills and equipment. We both got cuts and wounds. But that bastard just didn't die, no matter what I did to it. He charged to me and we both fell off to a dry cistern (or whatever those multi z-level things in dungeons are) and kept fighting unarmed and feet fractured. I think his willpower was starting to diminish, and his strikes became slower and slower. Eventually I strangled him and then passed out from exhaustion and loss of blood.

Somehow every dragon I've encountered has been a pretty boring. They usually die easily from a stab to head.

Sup dawg!?

I heard you like images of dwarves, so we put images of dwarves in your images of dwarves, so you can see depictions of dwarves being depicted in images of dwarves!

I like more those situations when an engraver engraves an engraving of him engraving an engraving of him engraving an engraving... you got the point.

I thought that I'd need to assign each dwarf individually a room. Also I thought I need always to irrigate soil before planting crops.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Any mods for dwarven clothes wearing?
« on: November 26, 2013, 11:10:48 am »
Easiest way is to go to entity_default.txt and find clothing. Just set those pieces of clothing you don't want your dwarves to use "UNCOMMON" or "RARE" instead of default "COMMON".

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Adventurer King?

It is possible to take a control of NPC with DFHack. I once took control of my King (fort mode) after hfs invasion and escaped the fortress. It works in adv. mode, too. The command was something like "adv-bodyswap".

The King/Queen coming to the fortress is actually exiled from the Mountainhome after a revolution.

Dwarven goverment doesen't have much supporters. I't based on sending all politically active and change-seeking dwarves (political prisoners) among with real, violent problem dwarves to penal colonies. One day the revolution begins and the monarch is overthrown. He/she will be exiled to penal colonies.

How large world you generated? How long history?

Civilizations sometimes die out during history, and especially if you have only one dwarven civ there's a risk. Try to make a world with no longer history than a couple of hundred years. You can check beforehand if there's a dwarven civ by going to legends mode and looking at the first civ in the "civilizations and entities"-tab.

Woah, I actually planned something like that once.

Are you going to make a own creatures for all the civs? I'd recommend just naming them all humans instead of "european" or "muslim". The differences would be mainly in equipment and in ethics. If you're going with "historical" cultures, fantasy creatures should be replaced. However, why don't you make this same for elves, dwarves and goblins, too? There could be Tolkien elves and DF elves and WoW elves etc.

Are you just improving the civilizations or other adventure mode -related things, too? Like adventure mode crafting?

I play adventure mod because of legends and because of roleplaying. I liek to explore the world and the people and the locations. I don't care much about random werebeast-quests, instead I roleplay something like long-lost heir to Dwarven throne and set my quest to recruit an army and kill the dwarven king. I like all kinds of flavor things like different kind of swords etc. just because of the world feels more alive that way.

If it is complex and stupid and sort of "why in the Armok's sake anyone would do this", it's legitimate for dwarves.

I usually go with large amounts of military (preferably legendaries with steel/candy) and see who wins. If I really want to make sure that I win, I'll build a long corridor of upright spikes set on repeat.

Once I had a dragon one-shotted by a speardwarf. He just casually stabbed a dragon in the head with iron spear, breaking the brain.

You won't need skateboards. We already have wheelbarrows and minecarts for hauling heavy stuff.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: How deep is a Deep Metal?
« on: October 20, 2013, 05:50:19 am »
I believe there isn't any direct z-level numbers. Shallow metals are the ones between the surface and the first cavern. Deeps are beneath the first cavern layer and the magma sea.

nahh she knows how to swim

Ahh, the rare Aqua-mortal.

Normally I don't lose companions due to crossing rivers by employing the flawless method of running the fuck away from them and fast-travelling, saving them.

Another way to get them through rivers is exploiting the fact that the companion will teleport into your tile if you move to its tile. So zig-zag into your companion's tile and out of it, and as long as you enter to its tile from the front, the companion will move to the right direction.
