General Discussion / Re: I like anime, do you like anime?

I watched the first two eps of Mirai Nikki, and this is quickly spiraling into a show I might really love. It hits off really fast, doesn't fuck around, and is ambitious as hell. Let's hope this is an upward trend.

It starts off strong, gets a bit weird, has a stretch of what I found to be pretty dumb filler with unoriginal characters/stupid plots, and then gets interesting again at the end. It's actually pretty good if you can make it to the actually interesting twists near the end, at least.

You're overly optimistic. They'll just blame Obama. I mean, people blame him for things that happened before he got into office, why do you think they'll stop when he leaves?

Edit: There's a meme in that...

Like how people in 2008-2012 blamed everything on Bush?

AD Malzahar is in a better place than he's been in quite a while. His first clear is way easier thanks to the easy sustain from smite (and alternating the damage taking between himself and his voidlings) and his objective control is as strong as ever, letting him take dragon after dragon on his own. The jungle is harder, but his voidlings still rip through it in record time, and the harder jungle means the old bully junglers that used to cause him problems don't have the health to go after him when he's at his weakest (after/during first clear).

It's worth mentioning that "decision making" can actually rely partly on knowing how skilled your teammates and opponents are, and playing against people weaker than you can lead to some pretty big mistakes. For example, if a Plat or Diamond starts playing in Bronze but makes plays as though he could rely on his team to follow up, he'll die a fair bit and get called out (though generally they'll figure out pretty fast how reliable their team is rather than running in repeatedly, hence how they made it out in the first place). Also, someone in higher elo instinctively expects their opponent to try to dodge skillshots and will lead the target, so when a low elo chump just stands there he looks like an idiot when he misses the stationary target completely.

Haven't tried Charlemagne, but in TOG I'd say it's pretty easy to play as a Norse character just about anywhere, with the easiest probably being the Norse on the British Isles and the hardest being a tossup between landlocked northern Norse and the mainland Germany/France Norse (one's a vassal). The Norse have kinda funny mechanics but they're hilariously overpowered early on since they can summon massive armies from the ether and basically just conquer stuff for no reason.

And all of a sudden, out of left field, ISIS has taken a town in Libya.

http://www.cnn.com/2014/11/18/world/isis-libya/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

"Hey Abdul, I've always wanted to be a king. Let's start a movement to make me king."

"Yeah, well, that isn't going to happen. You can't just declare yourself king."

"Well what if we just took the name of a famous group somewhere far away that could get some supporters, took over, and then I ran things 'temporarily'?"

"Come on now. What organizations could possibly fulfill that criteria?"

Several days later

"ISIS forces seize town in Libya!"

It isn't really fair to attack the entire field of economics, which actually does have worthwhile observations, policy advice, and so on. However, there are a lot of issues in the field of economics that deserve critique, mostly relating to the complete uselessness of most econometric models and a lot of ideas certain economists are built backwards. For example, Neo-Keynesians (who are really more like Monetarists honestly but that's beside the point) basically start from the assumption that government spending is the only thing preventing perpetual unemployment and that work backwards to create a theory built around this (that cleverly disguises the underlying assumptions made).

Managed almost 3000 points, then flew off the map trying to avoid a collision. Fun game

I've played her a few times, and she's basically a two trick pony. She has hilarious level 2 cheese that can kill almost any midlaner if they respond in any way besides flashing back, and she can do some nifty things with her ult if she's good at timing. Otherwise, she has no real utility and to maximize damage/effectiveness she has to jump right into the enemy team, which can sorta work if she gets fed but otherwise isn't really useful. Other champs can do what she does more or less better.

Supporting independence has nothing to do with Communism, but public opinion in Catalonia would bring them in that direction pretty fast. As things currently stand, Catalonia only really has two political forces: the CiU, a bunch of religious-right crooks that are fairly left wing in economic views and are most well known for getting rich by plundering government funds, and various left wing parties (the biggest being the ESC and PSC) that wouldn't mind a revival of the policies of 1937 Catalonia. In the short run, and independent Catalonia would be sprinting towards such a revival simply because there doesn't really exist any counteracting force. There would also be economic issues relating to the fact that most of Catalonia's trade is with the rest of Spain, which would be in trouble once they seceded and had tariffs put on their goods (they wouldn't get into the EU since Spain wouldn't let them in, so they wouldn't get the free trade that Scotland would have after seceding).

Regardless, in the long run it probably would be better if Catalonia seceded anyway, I just think that the current bunch of thugs running the show there aren't much of an improvement over the Spanish.

I'm pretty sure that the vote will return positive for independence, but the Spanish will ignore it and the Catalans aren't violent/well armed enough to raise the barricades and repeat 1936. This is arguably a good thing since the Catalonian local government is horrendously corrupt (even beyond that of the Spanish government, which is really saying something) and an independent Catalonia would probably immediately begin moving towards Communism of some sort. But then, that's the downside of supporting secession as a matter of principle, since the people actually seceding tend to have some sort of crazy idea that tars them in some way, like slavery for the Confederates or antisemitism (among other things) for regionalist Whites in the Russian Revolution. Regardless, I wish them the best, even if they celebrate their victory by raising the red flag and collectivizing the farms.

Who is this Amash fellow and why should I froth about him?

Republican congressman from Michigan, posts all his votes and the reasoning behind them online. Generally libertarian policies, fairly principled. I was referring more to frothing about the results in general as opposed to Amash since Amash generally wouldn't be considered to be too bad by someone like Glenn Greenwald.

Yeah there's a few non-Democrats, they just rarely post in this thread and much fanfare is made when they do.

Anyhow, I don't care much either way for the results. I can't say I was a fan of the Democratic Senate, but most of the Republicans that won their seats were scumbags who aren't an improvement (eg that corporatist goon Tillis). On the plus side, some of the new House seats have Amash-esque winners that I can sorta stand behind, and I can watch the frothing at the mouth of hardcore Democrat supporters, so that's always nice.

SC does seem to have a more moderate streak than much of the rest of the South. Lindsey Graham, for example, is probably the most likeable and least insane Republican senator south of the Mason-Dixon.

I seem to recall Lindsey Graham being a warmongering, PATRIOT Act supporting thug.

I dunno. I tried Karthus top for the same reason I would play Fiddle top, and while it generally works out okay in lane, it hobbles a lot of team comps since it makes your team as a whole a lot weaker with initiation and it makes the team squishier.
