DF Gameplay Questions / Piles o ash
« on: March 11, 2012, 10:22:28 pm »
So I had a siege where the survivors were dallying about the gates refusing to leave. The solution was (clearly) to light the entire z level of terrain on fire. Now there is ash everywhere. Does this stuff go away at the next rain or something?

DF Gameplay Questions / continuing theme of magma related questions
« on: March 08, 2012, 02:55:15 am »
So I read somewhere that magma doesnt follow rules of pressurization like water does.

I want to make a pit and fill it with lava. I have a volcano. If I dig the pit and then tunnel into the side of the volcano from the bottom of the pit which sits many z levels below the summit of the volcano, will the lava never force its way up and out of the pit?

DF Gameplay Questions / Potential vampiric oops.
« on: February 24, 2012, 11:16:46 am »
So I was pretty sure this chick was a vampire, but she's in a room with no food having been locked in, and now shes getting orange hungry arrows. Thought vampires never got hungry? If I don't get an answer soon, she is going to be witch-hunted. (Oops, she died of hunger. Wasn't a vampire.)

DF Gameplay Questions / Is it? Is it not?
« on: February 22, 2012, 04:34:46 am »
Ok, this is odd. I have, on my first wave, the Queen consort of my realm showing up. Odd. Y'kno what else is odd is that she has been thrown out of EVERY OTHER DWARF CIV ON EARTH. All of them. It is year 11. Then she became queen and decided to move to Crystalblazes, whose most prominent feature at this time is a poorly constructed stone wall to keep the ocean out of the front door and the mass stockpile.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I suspect vampire on the grounds that they may possibly be kicking her out for not drinking...... vine. Is it? Is it not?

DF Modding / About ocean fishing.
« on: January 31, 2012, 05:06:51 am »
Is there some easy fix so that an ocean doesn't run out of fish? Because that is silly.

I'd settle for turning off fish extinction everywhere somehow, then turning it back on after the ocean fort is done.

DF Suggestions / Capital persistance?
« on: January 31, 2012, 03:14:25 am »
Ok, so this is my first post up here in suggestions. Feelin' like I been dwarfin' about long enough now to make one. Did a search to see if this has been suggested before, and found this

which isn't quite what I have in mind.

Heres my idea. High level / particularly incredible forts could have a bit of persistance. I've got my first real fort here. At least, the first one to survive a decent amount of time. 47 years in fact. This place has traps, military, no want, piles of candy things, capital of the civ, ultraskyscraper serving as a megatomb blah blah everything a dwarf could want. But then I come to a problem.

I'm bored.

Understandable. The joy in this game (for me) is building the fort from the ground up. I mean, the fort practically maintains itself at this point. But why would the dwarves just up and leave this paradise? All I can do is abandon the capital of dwarven civilization if I want to start a new fort. My suggestion is to have a fort persist as a CPU controlled outpost after you abandon it. Not EVERY fort would do this, maybe after you fullfilled yet more requirements. Say, if it hits the 50 year mark? 100 years? Maybe a few billion in crafted objects? I dunno but whatever the requirements, they should be something that is a very difficult feat to accomplish, but it would add some.... lasting reward to building a fort that stands the test of time. Seems like sort of a letdown for me to just up and leave the place. Maybe after you reach said requirements, you could choose to abandon or to have it persist?

I'd love to gen a world, play it for a thousand years in game from year one, and look back and see that first dwarf city I built made into a bastion of the dorf way of life a millenium later.

Is this a good idea?

DF Modding / Marriage hax?
« on: January 24, 2012, 12:54:30 am »
Not sure if this is the right place to post this.

Is there a way to change relationships through hax? I have a girl here that is super pissed our dwarves-named-after-ourselves did not marry each other of their own volition, as it is clearly a breach of a base law of nature or perhaps divine mandate that the COSMIC FORCES OF CHANCE DID NOT REALIGN TO BRING THIS TO PASS. GOD.

Can someone help me out here? With the dwarves, I mean.

DF Gameplay Questions / Ownership question
« on: January 23, 2012, 08:23:50 am »
I would like to assign my favorite dwarf a suit of adamantine armor for protection, to be buried with her when she dies. I've chucked her in a squad and given her the armor, but will she be buried with it? I'm not sure if this counts for ownership as far as being buried goes.

DF Gameplay Questions / Height bonus?
« on: January 23, 2012, 04:23:36 am »
I cannot be the first one to ask, but is there a height bonus involved in ranged combat? Is height taken into account in any way? Couldn't find an answer on the wiki, and a forum search turned up nuthin.

DF Gameplay Questions / Mood help.
« on: January 23, 2012, 02:34:26 am »
I've got a dwarf sketchin pictures of a forest, square blocks, a quarry, shining bars of metal, skeletons and stacked cloth.

I have bars and blocks, made of metal, stone, and wood. I got logs, I got raw stone, I got bone and/or full skeletons from goblins, turkeys, werewolves, llamas, and lions. I got cloth of plant, cloth spun from sheep, and silk. I even made some candy cloth, just in case. I got multiples of all these things, bins and storehouses full of unforbid examples of these behind unlocked doors. Cept for the candy cloth, only got 4 of those. Which should be plenty. What does he want from me!?!?/!/1?!

DF Gameplay Questions / Skeletons!!!!
« on: January 22, 2012, 07:28:49 am »
So, I wanted some confirmation. I had a secretive dwarf need "skeletons". She would not take just any old bone, like the wiki said. She wouldn't take turkey bone, llama bone, or even polar bear bone. She would ONLY take a bone from a goblin. Bosa's partial skeleton, to be exact. Is this what skeleton means? A full/partial skeleton?

DF Gameplay Questions / Possible syndrome?
« on: January 22, 2012, 05:34:12 am »
So a FB gets into the fort, blah blah blah it gets its ass kicked by lions. It had a dust attack, but its spine got broken and anyway thats not important whats important is that it bled everywhere, and now my dwarves need to "rest injury" every so often, and some animals are bleeding to death out of nowhere. No dwarves have died yet, and by the time they whine their way over to the infirmary, they are all better.

They have no symptoms from the time they "take ill" to the time they reach the hospital. What is happening?    ???
