Getting surrounded / outnumbered always was as bad as in real life in Witcher. Especially since group attacks were removed. Oh, and archers from out of sight. You really don't want that.

Also, from my short foray into the game, if you haven't noticed already: Archers (crossbowmen definitely) can and will shoot from outside your engagement range sometimes. By that I mean that Geralt will not notice he's fighting, so no parrying, dodging or rolling.
Another thing you might not have noticed is that on horse* Geralt will cast axii on his mount. I'm not sure what it does exactly, but it probably has a calming effect, so until you get blinders you might want to try that when charging into the enemy. Extremely short duration from what I saw though.

Then again, maybe I'm saying obvious things, but I hope it helps some people.

*: I know his horse is called Roach, but I've seen the mount option on some other horses, so I'm sticking to general terms.

And let's not forget that it wasn't uncommon for a family back then to have 6+ kids so ladies were expected to give birth like machineguns.

And all that with high infant mortality rates.
Add to that the fact that there's warriors going around who can practically do anything, depending on their commander and you've got what you see in Witcher and then some...

was able to play the game for the first 2 days of release, but then randomly tried to hit Play yesterday and was met with a quick flash of black as if starting, then nothing.  i did the local cache thing multiple times, restarted computer, installed latest drivers.  i could try to re-install but i'm worried about losing progress. wat2do?

I hear there was a new patch released, might have something to do with that. If not, then download it anyways...

(On a non-related note: I have a 4GB i3. I tried the game and it's totally unplayable, even at low. I really will have to wait until I get a new rig. Then again, my laptop is roughly 4 years old and it was never high-end, so I guess it's acceptable. Witcher 2 also ran bad until a few patches though, hmm...)

One thing I've noticed is that there are barely any loading screens. In the hours I've played it, I can't remember seeing a single loading screen anywhere. Not even in the buildings or the caves.

Yeah, they specifically upgraded the engine to make it stream in the background continuously. So you're basically loading all the time, instead of at specific transitions.

I was already planning on waiting for the EE, however many years away that is, but I guess I shouldn't even consider getting it while I only have a GTX 460.

GT 555M here. Yes, that's a laptop. I seriously doubt I have any chance to run it. I am planning to get a new laptop anyway though (since this one is nearing its end, seemingly), so there's that. The new lenovo Y50-70 with GTX 960M sounds promising...

Until then, I'll just be sobbing in that corner there.

I have to admit, I really have no idea about the last one. I found a pattern in most others (evidently, not entirely successfully, since my score was 110), but I had no idea about the final one.
By the way, I'm not really sure why people are so obsessed with gradually increasing difficulty in tests. Won't the subject be mentally fatigued by the end? I know I had enough of patterns after the first few questions... Or is mental stamina/endurance also a vital part of intelligence?

I may have missed this information, but how do the added weapons work? For instance, my adventurer wields a gunlance, can it actually fire? Thanks.

Yes I'm an idiot, I've figured it out, excellent mod by the way. I'd really love to meet a gravios.

Another thing I've probably missed is; do the bones of different monsters change the effectiveness of weapons created from them?

They should, as the different bones have basically the same stats as different metals, ranging from copper to steel (and adamantine, though I prefer to use steel as the highest rank, since that's already crazy strong for bone).

@StupidElves:
I had a look at it when I had time before my exam period, but couldn't find the cause, unless something changed in the raw format. It MIGHT be a missing file, I'll look into it again later this week.

Also, I should be able to get back to working more on the mod. School final exam writing parts are mostly over, so I've got no school and such. Just gonna rest a bit first and get my IELTS done as well.
I still also have the oral part of the exams, so I'll be preparing for that, but after the middle of June it's free time (hopefully). Even until then, I plan to be able to put some work in and at least fix/finalise everything we currently have.

I didn't like the options, so I chose on a whim a lot. No idea how I got "extroverted" preference on a personality test though. Always was 100% introverted before. (Not that that was in any way true, I just see myself like that)

Don't look down on the evasive capabilities of the Switch Axe. Being able to dodge between any two attacks is powerful, especially with every attack actually doing considerable damage in relatively short intervals.

GTA V and Age of Wonders III

Turn-based gangster game with RPG elements. Factions: the gangs, the police, etc.
Haven't gotten into GTA V yet since it crashed after 5 minutes, so no story plans yet. will get back later

Still, at first, don't use the lance. It's hard to get a decent DPS out of, so hunts will become boring (happened to me in MH3). I think the Switch Axe or the Charge Blade is a decent start, since you'll have high damage, but also a pretty adaptive weapon style. (Switch axe because you can dodge after any attack, Charge Blade because it has a shield in sword mode and the axe mode has some nifty damage boost or impact damage). And because Switch Axe sword and Charge Blade axe (charge attacks only on that one? Not sure) can't bounce off monsters.

I still stand with my "you can handle it with only the target lock" idea. More than one monster at a time is harder like that, but it's usually better to try and get the enemy to fight 1v1 (either dung bombs or smoke), so that doesn't matter, I think.

Sword and Shield is beginner-friendly not just because it's fast, but also because of that extra guard option while you learn how to time your dodges and attacks. I say it's nice until you get to the monsters whose legs are taller than you. At that point, you can look for something new. (You'll get what I mean, I think. If you can pass under the monster, it might be time for a new weapon type. Or the SnS might just be perfect for your rhythm).

My tips for starting:
-Read all the text. Most of the time you'll find useful hints or tips.
-As a new player, I really advise playing all the tutorial/weapon guide quests you'll unlock. They give you a feel for the various weapons and give some guidance on the weak and strong points and basic combos.
-Try the bow and bowguns, but don't use them. Toying with ammo/coatings is a chore and you have less defense,
-Harvest everything. Especially bugs and ores. Always carry at least 5 bug nets and 5 iron pickaxes. You'll need materials to upgrade or craft gear, so it's worth investing time as soon as possible. I believe the tutorial part also covers this.

About the fluidity of combat... I never had a problem with it. It's sort-of like Dark Souls (as mentioned while I took a break while writing this), but in a way more enjoyable way (subjective opinion, I never liked DS, but love MH from the start). It's basically 98% Capcom boss fights after the intro part. Skill is more important than gear and there are no stats, so there's that. Gear is still important though. Especially good weapons. A pro can beat the strongest enemy in the game naked (after a lot of practice), but not if he doesn't have a weapon that deals enough damage to kill it in 45 mins...

Well yeah, basically nothing that hasn't been said or written before either here, on the wiki or in the game. Still, it's a great game once you get into it. And I'll be honest: The demos seem to be pretty bad so far. The MH3U demo felt terrible. MH3U itself was heaven.

Man, I've gone and written a long and meaningless post again. I should limit myself to a set number of words or characters...

It was the kelbi bow.
And let's not forget that the usual for speedruns was 1 God's Archipelago Bowgun and 3 dios dual swords for a reason.

Still, flat damage is flat damage. Breaking parts is something that's also nice, even if there would be no other great advantages.

Maybe I once tried one, but I forgot about it.  :P

Jokes aside, I'm not totally against 'alternative medicine' either, just like I'm not totally against regulating GMOs either.
I guess the medicine one depends on what you view as alternative and what not. I'm generally against modern homeotherapy (sugar-tablet with traces of a plant in it which sound good when written in Latin, but has no real medical value), but if a traditional method has worked for centuries, then I'm okay with it. Also, if a placebo can help someone, it's also worth a shot, just not as a first choice. Or maybe it IS a good first choice, but it shouldn't be the only choice? Not sure.

As for GMOs, it's enough to have some strict testing procedures, just in case that gene was misunderstood and causes the plant to contain trace amounts of poison that could build up or something. But enforced labeling of food as "Genetically Modified" would probably ruin their sales. That's definitely not acceptable in a capitalist state.

I've actually been thinking of getting this as well, when I get a 3DS.
Is something like the C-stick or Circle Pad Pro necessary for enjoying it, or...?

I play without one. Lock-on and the plus-pad for the second screen are more than enough. Hell, mostly I only use the target lock.
By the way, afaik, if you get a New 3DS, then it has something like a circle pad the right side, so you might want to look into that.

Eh, who knows. Maybe they have that in their political programme just to get the elven treehuggers environmental activists to vote for them, at least. Not working in the right way, as the quote by surqimus shows.
Pretty sure if they'd change a few of their standpoints they'd become a viable political party.

So, we infiltrate them? They have a name and a president candidate, we have good ideas. Sounds like a good deal.
