Sorry to de(re?)rail, but holy fucking shit. My entire extended family is warring because of me, and I didn't even know it. Some relation to me is a professor and refused to write me a recommendation for a program because he felt that a letter from a family member teaching in an unrelated field, no matter how well-published, wouldn't benefit me. I agreed completely and left it at that.

A few months later I get rejected from the program because I'm too "research oriented" and lacking leadership roles. This is understandable seeing as how they don't want people accepted to their program to go off and get a PhD instead, effectively wasting the spot. So I'm getting involved in the more clinical aspects of medicine while getting leadership positions in clubs.

A few months later and I'm in school. I get a call from my grandmother on my cell phone asking why my mom is so angry with her. It turns out my grandmother yelled at the guy who wouldn't write me a recommendation. My grandmother is a little protective and meddling, so this is to be expected. I told her that I wasn't mad at all with the guy, that I understood right away when he told me that his recommendation wouldn't help me at all, and that I loved him and his wife to death seeing as how they're both infinitely nice people. Problem resolved right?

Mother. Fucking. WRONG. It turns out the whole damn thing started when my MOTHER called this guy's wife (my mom's cousin) and told her never to talk to us again because I was emotionally devastated and my life was ruined by not getting in. Apparently my mother blames the whole thing on him not writing me a recommendation, rather than accepting that I was simply unsuited to the program. The worst part? I went out and filled the open recommendation with one from a professor who liked me, knew me in class, and who gave me an A for great effort and accomplishment in the course. Not only this, but the course I had this professor for was ORGANIC CHEMISTRY, much more important to my field than what my relative works in.

Tl;dr My extended family hasn't talked to each other in months because of me despite the fact that I have not been, or even felt slighted. It's a crying shame too, because we all recently took a vacation together and had a great time.

It's a portmanteau of squeal and squeak I believe. One does it inadvertently when something especially adorable or highly anticipated happens.

I only like the theme song xD

And I watch porn for the acting >.<
What, it's true! The Barenaked Ladies did another of my favorite songs.

I'll let it slide because they're Canadian. But only because they need our support in this time of hardship - the maple syrup famine.

Man, his girl must have been so impressed. I'm sure she nearly fainted with want when she realized that he actually was capable of speech.

So it seems we're waiting on a Mumble server host then...

Hans, you must buy one of those cheap 15 dollar mics so you can finally transcend meatspace to the higher, more civilized, and if I do say more fashionable state of existence.

He's nomming on the zipper of the hoodie I'm wearing!

Cute... Overload... Imminent...

I don't suppose you have a camera on that computer huh? Y'know, the B12 pictures thread is severely lacking in adorable cats...

Mumble would work if someone can set up a server.

AND it suits introverts perfectly! These all seem like good ideas to me, does anyone have experience with the different options and know what's the best?

I reached for my phone and stared at it hard for a few seconds before realizing that its powers are not yet that great. Since I can't help, try to find an old game that you used to love. I know I spent a few days glued to Dungeon Keeper 2 this summer.

But you have to admit that the world would be WAY cooler if everyone had a Bay12 personality.

I dunno, it might be cool. I always played that "The floor is lava" game as a kid, so I feel I'd be pretty well prepared.

This!

I was getting all happy and excited, because I scrolled, and scrolled, and scrolled, and new things still came up into view.

It's interesting both ways! :D

Holy shit they just showed this in my physics class last week! I uh... didn't share it here did I? I'd kinda feel like a dumbass if I was blown away by my own link >.<

Who here has a non-windows machine that can test this to see if it works? I'm fairly sure it's not a virus, but if I have to download all my steam games again at 200kb/s I'm going to tear my hair out.

Sambal is the glorious condiment of the gods. It goes on everything I eat. Sadly this means I have been in intestinal distress for the past month. But it is so. damn. worth it! It's like the time I discovered the Jamaican roach coach outside of the hospital I volunteered at. They had the best jerk chicken, and the best habenero hot sauce I have ever tasted.

Anyone else have suggestions for spicy things to try?

And if it can die, you can follow it's soul to the afterlife and kill it again.

Is there a finite number of afterlives? Or do you just keep going until you feel satisfied and then navigate your way back home from afterlife number 5318008 or however far out you went?
