DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Really Friendly Dwarf
« on: February 24, 2008, 05:40:00 pm »
I kinda like the effect that happy thoughts can have over bad ones.

A) "Darn joe died.  Nobody decided to bury him either...just left him to rot in the garbage dump...I'm sad."
B) Hey A! You see the shiny new artifact statue in the fully-legendary+5-engraved-dining-room-featuring-aluminum-tables-and-chairs?
A) Hey thats spiffy looking! I love the spikes of giant cave spider silk.  What?  I was sad about something?  No matter, ecstatic now.

I think even if you turn the mountain into a parking lot the space is still accolated (can't spell it) which means it won't help any.

It needs to take up that space to know the mountain is there, then it needs to take up that space to know that the mountain is now not there.  Least I assume thats how it works.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Your trade economy!
« on: May 16, 2008, 06:50:00 pm »
I typically sell leather armor, leggings and totems if I have a major hunting operation going.  If not I have stone crafts or thread clothing for sale.

As for purchases I usually buy all the meat and fish the traders bring, any exotic animals, wood if I don't have any, and any useless animals I can turn into meat for cheap.  Everything else I prefer to make on site if I can.  Goblin junk gets offered to the humans in trade for the use of their mobile dumpsters.

Yea look at it closer. It doesn't even have wings.

That however is easy to mod.

Soon Toady is going to have to ask what init options are active along with the any mods or utilities used question. EDIT:Referring to bug reports.

But I agree with the init option.  Everyones happy.

Why build a military that requires management when you can just make 30 mechanisms, a few serrated steel blades, and sit back and ignore everything that comes your way?

I figure such a passive no thought defense should require at least a little thought to set up right. Just to balance it out if anything.

Maybe after the first few visits you can tell them where the traps are, but if they siege you later don't be surprised when they suddenly ignore all your traps.

Hate to disagree with ya armok but I think artifacts are just being dropped now because some hard-to-fix bug surfaced that would be handled in the artifact arc anyway.  For many people the artifact bug currently makes you choose between the game being neigh unplayable or removing artifacts altogether.

As for the traps thing,  I do like the idea that you have to place them intelligently now, but it's a bug.  It could cause problems down the road if it is kept in.  I'm all for traps hitting everyone eventually, but it needs to be a good system, not just the shaky unintentional system thats already in place.  Right now bad things might be able to happen.

Yea it is a shame that they won't carry the stuff around anymore but it seems like the artifact lag bug has to do with why he made them drop them.  The lag bug probably has to with them holding it and he cannot easily fix it at this stage.

So they just drop it and the lag will likely go away.  I'm sure they'll carry them around again during the artifact arc.

It's a shame they won't carry them anymore but getting 5 fps in a 3x3 area 7 dwarf fort just because two guys made a fancy earring is a damn shame too.

P.S. No disrespect meant Armok.

EDIT:Typo. EDIT2:MULTIPLE typos.

That makes me wonder, do they gain combat skills from using them?  I can see it now.

I can't wait to do that to correct a catsplosion.  Sounds like it will be fun to watch.  And potentially catastrophic. (rimshot)

I was gunna say FPS but thats not as spiffy as that was.

I did have an unstoppable inferno that brought about a quit once though, despite the worst of it having passed by then.  It was unfortunate that the guy decided to go grab a snack turning all my food into a blazing inferno before he decided to go ignite the barracks.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Mandrill Child

All creatures reproduce with spores in DF.  If there was any male mandrill at any time on the map it has a possibility of impregnating any female mandrills on the map.

Honestly, I don't even know how the dwarves can tell who their father is.

I like cobaltite it's a spiffy color.  Looks good as noble furniture.

Really thats my only favorite.  I kinda like limestone too since I live in Florida but that stone isn't worthless, so it don't count.

Wow.  Best I got is a single low boot made out of modded starmetal enhanced iron.(Inspired by an Order Of The Stick comic)

It only comes 184200☼.  It might tie same material used most often though.  It's made of stariron and has bands and spikes of stariron too. (Using up every bar of the incredibly rare stuff I had.) But at least it has a kinda funny name.

Sushsath Sithe, "The Silk of Comedy"

I blame myself.  I had to go and give the material reasonable, balanced value.   :D
