DF Gameplay Questions / Re: What do you buy with fortress wealth?
« on: December 29, 2007, 02:05:00 pm »I can usually manage off of hunting and fishing but the traders bring in some extra insurance. I occasionally buy some rope reed too, since it's overkill to make a farm just for a couple sand bags.

And here I was making super convoluted fishing channels to allow fishing while protecting my residents from random finned death when I could have just made a frikken well. I need to go lie down now...
DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Game speed and some other stuff
« on: February 15, 2008, 05:26:00 pm »You'll have to lock the doors manually though. And sometimes a dwarf will go up to the front door before realizing he's not allowed outside and go back in.

« on: March 06, 2008, 04:58:00 pm »Thats actually sometimes how I find hidden chasms and cave rivers. Mine out some thin shafts under known mountain tiles, wait for awhile and search more throughly any areas where cave spider webs appear.
EDIT: As an aside thats pretty good at finding ore too.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: What do you give YOUR soldiers?
« on: February 12, 2008, 11:27:00 pm »But crossbows and bolts can handle those situations nicely.
DF Gameplay Questions / Re: How can I take something from my head?
« on: February 12, 2008, 11:37:00 pm »But make sure your in a safe place, because that is gunna HURT when you remove it, you might go unconscious. Pretty good chance of bleeding to death when you remove it too.
I once had an arrow lodged in some vital bodypart, I think it was a throat but I don't recall precisely. Anyway I removed it, passed out, and promptly bled to death.
DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Fort taking forever to save
« on: February 12, 2008, 11:57:00 pm »It may be updating every single one's ages and relevant info every time you save.
DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Can Wrestlers Snap Necks?
« on: February 10, 2008, 05:06:00 pm »They can strangle (Neck damage, causes bleeding and keeps the opponent from breathing) and gouge eyes out(massive pain+bleeding) those both tend to signify the end of a fight is pretty close.
Breaking necks or bare hands dismemberment is one of the things that are likely to be implemented in the future though.
DF Gameplay Questions / Re: catching a giant eagle
« on: February 10, 2008, 10:57:00 am »Once you know how and can make a chokepoint between two large areas you can catch wildlife without too much trouble, but when the creature can move in the z level as well the difficulty is compounded by a hundred times.
Maybe you can lure an eagle into a cage trap in a cave with a sacrificial soaper?
EDIT: This is assuming that fliers trap immunity was removed when they could start moving on z. Back in 2D I remember flier making stuff ignore traps.

"Oops, fortifications don't block magma? Shame."
DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Cold Lava
« on: August 18, 2007, 11:45:00 am »But when I flooded the room everything was still intact. (except the mayor fortunately but the bed survived.) I even flooded it again for an entire season, still no dice. Both weather and temperature are on.
Maybe magma channels work differently than the flow? I dunno.
Edit:do I ever post without one of these? Cut is better than copy. Means I don't repeat myself by mistake.
