Life Advice / Re: No sound on my TV when using HDMI-DVI [Solved]
« on: October 21, 2013, 01:54:00 am »
So if anyones interested the issue is solved now. I got a friend of mine to bring over a bunch of DVI-HDMI adapters and after trying several of them, one suddenly worked. One with the ATI logo on it. It seems that in some ATI driver update they introduced some retarded bullshit that makes you use an "official" adapter for the card to send any sound to the tv.
O_o im running 13.4 and i can run dvi audio?

I would assume so. I am running 13.9 and now that I am using an "ati" dvi-hdmi adapter it works.

Why can I not find a pair of wireless headsets that is NOT shit...

First my Logitech G930 flipped the fuck out causing me to buy a pair of Corsair Vengeance 2000 which now have the most annoying fucking bug I have seen.
Basically the headset hangs, with the charge light and on/off light constantly on. The headset can not be used at all, it can't even be turned off and on again. The only workaround I've found is from a thread from 2012 on the corsair support forum and that is to leave the bastards to completely drain and then charge them up again because corsair decided not to include a bloody hard reset button.

Fuck. I am tired of buying expensive headsets that turn out to work for a month or two and then break down.

Now I've got to dig out my receipt and demand a replacement at the store only to probably run in to some other fucking issue down the line.

And as I write this, I am drinking hot spiced apple cider.

Indeed, the appearance of spiced cider and cinnamon-y/nutmeg-y/allspice-y things at this time of the year is the only reason I haven't labored to build a giant mirror that would keep the Earth in perpetual summer.

Autumn and Winter are bitches, but they do bring some nice things.

I hear you, I am no fan of winter. I hate the cold but stuff like Glögg makes it almost worth it. (I don't know if it is exactly the same thing but I guess in english, glögg would be mulled wine with raisins and almonds.)

That video was impossible. I don't think I managed to get a single note right. How the shit am I supposed to sing a C5 or whatever, damn music and your musicalness. I just sounded like I was choking on a pair of leggings.

I'm just going to have to face it, I can't music :p

The TREE(n) function derived from Kruskal's Tree Theorem.

Math is incredibly hilarious sometimes.

TREE(1) = 1.
TREE(2) = 3.
TREE(3) = a number larger than Friedman's n(4). Now I have not found a place where it is stated just how large that is but for comparison from wikipedia, Friedman's n(3) = 2↑7197*158386 so I am going to guess it involves a lot of Knuth's up arrow notations :p

Said screw it and installed Arch Linux on my laptop. It is quite amazing.
Now if only I could get beautiful.init(awful.util.getdir("config") .. "/themes/default/theme.lua") to stop throwing syntax errors when changing theme path in awesome.

HDMI-DVI can carry audio signals and as I said, it worked but a month or so ago for me without issues. Nothing has changed in the setup other than newer radeon drivers. I doubt the whole Protected Path Issue since my laptop running Win 7 (and a radeon card albeit with a much older version of catalyst) works fine when connected to the TV, so unless it is something ATI has done with the last few driver updates it ain't that.

Yup HDMI from my laptop works fine so it is not the cable or the tv.

I want all of dis.

Buy all of them and go some office supply store and buy thousands of those little pins with red knobs on them and start planning for world domination. It is the only logical choice of course.

art.com why must you try to take all my student money again? why must you have prints of every damn obscure artist I happen to find awesome?

In other words, I want this.
That's pretty expensive for such a lam--
Ooh they got world maps~

Curse you ;_; My wallet doesn't need an extra burden to bear D:

The print is only a third of that price, it's the framing and shit like that that costs money. For example I am having a signed poster framed at a local store. With non-reflexive glass, a frame (albeit a bit special, its a red metal frame.) and a passepartout and it will cost me about $140.

Life Advice / No sound on my TV when using HDMI-DVI [Solved]
« on: September 21, 2013, 10:01:57 am »
So, I posted about this in the WTF thread but figured there was a bigger chance of getting help if posting here. I have been using my TV connected to my PC with a hdmi cable with a DVI adapter to watch YouTube and Twitch stuff for quite a while (years), but for a while now I am unable to get the sound to play, I can in fact not even select my TV as standard output anymore, the option is greyed out.

I am assuming this is some kind of driver issue so I have made sure my graphics card drivers are up to date and also that I have the latest realtek sound drivers (the tv is set to use the amd drivers though but it couldn't hurt to try). So far, no dice. I have tried every port on my tv and both of the ports on my PC and no luck.

My tv is a samsung somethingorother and the graphics card in question is an HD5970, now running the latest drivers.

My next step is to try to plug the HDMI cable into my laptop and see if I can get audio that way, if that is the case I guess the adapter could be broken in some way that only affects the audio signal but I figured I'd make the post before I run out of all options if this is something someone else has encountered.
