to Kayla: these are all good points, very good points. I have several gay friends, and they use the term gay to mean bad.I think sometimes you have to let it go. whatever it may mean i think that at least for now gay has a third term
1. happy
2. homosexual
3. bad

as much as this sucks, i think now that most people use it not as an assault to homosexuality, but merely as slang. but a lot of words evolve like this. sorry i don't know really why i said this, simply thought i'd provide another point of view...

also, is there and advantage to building guard towers? i was going to make a "castle" fort, with 4 towers and a keep for the nobles, but if they don't really do much ill just abandon the rather boring flat plain, and go build a more tradititonal fort in the magma vent nearby..

bought some cows in my start out page, hoped to use them as bolt and meat factories for my guard towers. i caged them fairly quickly. it's been about a year and no new calves have been born (2 were born early in the year) how long do cows take to breed/mature? and do cages affect breeding or maturing at all?

attempting my first above ground fort. trying to build walls, but despite the fact my mason has made many fine stone blocks on the z-2 level, the only available material for wallbuilding are the 3 tower cap logs from my wagon, even though i have cut a lot more wood than that. why would this be? do i need to make a stone stockpile on the same z-level?

I'm playing a map, and with the z-axis, i have absolutely bags of space underground, in mountains etc
is this normal? do i still need to bother with space efficiency? ive always hated planning fortresses out (due to my uncertainty), and now it seems like i dont have to really. whats the max dwarf limit, still 200?

ok thanks for the help so far guys. theyre planting, but only one square of crop appears, and is promptly nicked by whichever dwarf. the wiki gave me the impression that the crops all came up together.

Sorry. I normally use firefox, which spellchecks for you, and I wrote the previous post in a rush, I was quite frustrated. Do you need a dedicated seed pile? I was hoping the farmers could take it from the food stockpile.
