With a nod of approvement, Falcata's opinion of Isos rises measurably.  Khenal may be a trustworthy individual and admirable pony in general, but none of what either of them was saying seemed to be helping her case.  Isos was being very reasonable about this, not letting her prior experience with Khenal cloud her own perspective of matters.

Justice may be served yet.

((Guessing we're going with the idea that not all alicorns are huge like Celestia and Luna then, or is this just a big pegasus?  I agree with Impending Doom regardless, interesting twist.))

Edit: Can't spell to save my life these days...

(Hmm, was Falcata part of the guard when the beatings occurred?  She probably knew of it either way I guess)

Friesden's comment on the beatings struck a nerve, and it took most of Falcata's will to remove the scowl that formed on her face.  What did Friesden intend by that remark?

The train of thought was cut off as Khenal was called forward to testify.  This was the moment she was really waiting for.  What would her former captain have to say for all of this?

Falcata lets out a muffled snort.  Captain Otik's testimony wasn't improving her opinion of Friesen much.  Maybe Friesden wasn't insane so much as prone to homicidal bouts of rage?  Maybe Carrot said something she didn't like so she just killed him.

Regardless, it was hard to take Captain Otik's testimony at face value.  Nopony was strong enough to do that, much less somepony like Friesden.  But what would Otik gain by lying on Friesden's behalf?

Heh, think I'll pass on taking over for Isos right now.  Truth be told, after reading through all of this thread, I'm pretty sure Dsarker would just run circles around me trying to make decent arguments.

Permanent insanity... Falcata wasn't really sure how to peg Friesden there.  She certainly appeared to be sane right now.  Whether she had ever really been insane, that was the question.

Friesden was articulate and clearly intelligent.  It didn't seem to be much of a stretch to believe that she had fabricated the entire bouts of insanity.  Although the rest of her argument made sense.  It didn't follow why she would murder Carrot after apparently getting away with her first murder.  Unless she really was a sociopath who killed when she thought she could get away with it.  She wouldn't be the first Falcata had seen.

But then she probably
would have killed somepony else before now.  Unless that's what she wanted everypony to think...

Falcata shook her head, trying to find a linear path of thought in the circles of madness.

A curious series of emotions wash over Falcata as she listens to the captain's statements.  The contents of Friesden's diary were... unsettling to hear.

If Friesden had committed murder, Falcata knew already she was a heartless sociopath.  The diary however, as the captain said herself, proved without doubt to Falcata that Friesden was either hopelessly insane or diabolically sinister in her motives and was intelligent enough to feign such insanity.

Her eyes narrow as she looks over the pony chained before her.
She would never allow Friesden to go free again.  But it wasn't her place to make such a judgement.

She reflexively reaches for her weapon as somepony shouts a confirmation to the captain's assertion, but halts at the lack of any physical outburst.  She would do well to keep her eyes on that pony.  At least she was a unicorn and nopony would have seen her magically reach for it.  It wouldn't do at all for her to start a scene needlessly.

Dsarker has a point.  Guess Isos is yours KingStrongbeard.

Falcata rises to attention as the trial resumes.  She is very eager to hear what else Friesden has to say for herself.

Edit: Does anypony else want to take over Isos for this. I'd like it to be someone who's been around awhile, sorry compound. I can do it if no one else will step up, but I'd rather let someone else do it.

I wouldn't really feel comfortable taking over Isos and probably don't have time anyway.

I'd say that it should go to Khenal or you.

Missed the start by a bit, I'm afraid.

Sometimes justice still gets served, Falcata thinks to herself as she watches Isos lead Friesden into the room.

Already she felt butterflies in her stomach, and the trial hadn't even begun.  She'd sat through more trials than she ever cared to remember, none of them happy occasions.  At least this time she didn't have a personal stake in the matter.

She blew out a breath to relieve some of her pent up tension and watched the ponies around her.  She wanted to see Friesden brought to justice, but she also had a job to do.  There was a small chance somepony might lose their cool and do something they might regret, and it was her job to see to it that nopony got hurt.  Even Friesden.

That would have to come later when she was convicted for being the murderer she was.

Bleh, got killed in Everquest.  Not particularly epic.  In fact, kind of stupid.  I pulled too many light blue cons and got my butt handed to me.  Welcome back to level 91...

Grr.  Sometimes I wonder why I still play this game.  No other game I know of tries this hard to keep you from progressing at a reasonable rate.

Hmm, not sure this is literally the last time I owned in a game, but it's probably the thing I'm most proud of.  And not all that long ago anyway.

I beat the first four Megaman X games while getting the least amount of upgrades possible and never using boss weaknesses.  That probably doesn't sound all that hard, but I suggest anyone who is familiar with the games to give it a try.  The first two in particular are quite brutal when trying this.  Sigma is a grueling fight when you can only take a couple of hits without dying.

If you're proficient at the games, you'll probably cruise up to Sigma like I did.  Then the game just kind of kicks you in the nuts.  X3 in particular was bad here, it took me a while to figure out how to dodge Sigma's attacks without airdashing.  I literally thought it was impossible for a while.

Is anypony else going to be witnessing in favor of Friesden?  I'd imagine it'd be easy enough to find somepony who heard Carrot yelling about killing both Khenal and Friesden on the tower, lending strength to Khenal's claim that it was self defense.  Efim's murder, however, will be difficult...

Seems plausible that another fortress guard could have witnessed this.  I have no idea what the fortress layout is or exactly where this happened.  Presumably there would have been some citizens somewhere within eye or earshot of it.  What they might have to say is the question though.

I wouldn't mind playing another guard if no one else with more time wants to do it.

All sounds reasonable to me.  Falcata will probably just be mostly watching regardless, since as far as I know she has nothing useful to add as a witness.  Unless she was part of Khenal's investigation of Friesden's first murder, but as far as I recall only he was involved, not the rest of the guard.

Of course, I assume that she and the other fortress guard would be expected to be present, in case of civil unrest and all.

Wow, another pony fort.  At this rate they'll overtake the regular forts.

Posting to watch, at least for now.
