Had a dwarf be possessed. I realized he wanted metal, so I forbid everything except platinum.

Hung out.

Checking jobs list, realized that a some dwarves were finally carrying out my dump orders for some stuff cluttering up the butcher shop. Sweet! But wait, they're not carrying anything. Huh. And they're heading down to the magma zone. Where I store my bars. The bars are literally 2 tiles away from the dump zone. Chuck, chuck, chuck. OOOPS. I hit D, not F...  Luckily the few that were lost were brass. Nice to remember that this game is so complex.

IS there a good way to stockpile sand near my glassmaking area? I can't figure out how. I don't see it as an option.

Thanks

DF Suggestions / Finding dwarves with labors on via a workshop
« on: February 15, 2012, 06:07:49 pm »
I don't know if this has been suggested, but perhaps a way to ease dwarven management (now that Therapist is down) would be to have a menu option for any active workshop showing which dwarves have a labor on that is useable at that workshop? I can't for the life of me remember who has brewing on right now, and my instinct is to go to the still and click something to show me who's either a) good at brewing or b) got brewing turned on.

Just a thought.

most seem to be 10-11 in age. meaning they are prime workers for sweatshops craft making!

You mean prime blood-bags for feeding upon... seriously, maybe that's why there are so many kids, so that the killing doesn't fall so hard on your useful dwarves.

If you do that you also need to mod in this guy.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Ravens!

The new carp-ybara badger?

I haven't had much experience with them yet, but I've seen several mentions, and the swarming in haunted zones is a problem. I had a head and spine reanimate and chase my miner around.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: ZOMBIE SPIRAL!!!!

First embark, the only other units on the screen in a haunted zone are a wolverine and a porcupine corpse. I don't even know how the wolverine died, but it came back, and it came back hard. That and the ravens ramped up a nice zombie spiral very quickly, since they killed my woodcutter pretty quickly. It all happened so fast that I could barely figure out what was going on. And despite watching his corpse run around killing things, I was informed that he had been "missing for a week". Chilling.

Channeling incident, legendary miner/expedition leader, one of only two miners, digging for magma for my smelters...

He found magma, all right.

Can someone refresh me here? How do I tell again what civilizations made it or are nearby? I know the C key will show me who I'm at war with, but I understand you only see those if you've already interacted.

If I'm at 2 or 3 years, and have had 2 dwarf caravans but no one else, what's going on?

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: maces vs. Warhammers
« on: January 25, 2012, 03:30:10 pm »
i shall test it in the arena.
ok with 200 a side,no skills, iron weapons, no armor but rope reed clothing.

the warhammer side won and not just by one or two dwarfs but by good 50+ dwarfs.

This doesn't really test anything! Because after a few dwarves die (which could be random - remember we're playing df), the numbers start becoming imbalanced, giving one side an advantage.

So do this again, 200 more times, and then we'll know.

you need to abandon the fort you have at that moment in a world - or pension the adventurer - before you can start something new. You can have only 1 fort or adventurer at any time and it will always be chronological: if you embark at 150, abandon at 157, your next fort will most likely start in 158 (there may be some occasion when not, i dont know for sure)

Ah. That's annoying, but it makes sense. If you want to run multiple forts in the "same world", you'd have to save scum and copy and abandon then? I think I get it.

I... I am being really stupid.

How do I start a new embark in an already generated world? When I am on the start page, I see "Continue playing" which allows me to access my saves. But where do I do an new embark??

Also, somehow I was under the impression that we can get updates beyond .25, or at least current releases. Where do I see what version I'm on, and how do I update to Toady's most current version? Just download again?

Sorry for these, they feel really silly, but I can't figure it out.
