Oblivion and Morrowind (daggerfall is too long ago) have the worst leveling system ever. I'm jumping around the landscape, try not to raise the wrong skill, just to get the best attribute bonus when I do level up. Next level I'm casting the same spell hundreds of times, and am careful not to run or jump for fear of messing up the bonus once again. Bah.

I for one welcome the Skyrim skill experiment.

It was mostly fine in Morrowind, you could pretty much ignore it and take 2x, 3x in your 3 attributes. Since you had over 70 levels to work with, you're pretty much guaranteed to cap everything long, long before then. No levelled enemies helped too.

I think I did the same thing through my Oblivion saves. In the end, it's not too bad. Might give a bit more of a challenge, but likely nothing insurmountable.

Acrobatics was marginally more useful in Morrowind, since Morrowind actually had inaccessible areas that could only be reached via levitation or acrobatics.

Then there's bunny hopping, which does make you go faster. Even if it does make you look/feel silly.

Elves only by name though. They couldn't be any dwarfier if they tried. Unfortunately, that dwarfiness is probably part of the reason why they got extinct in the first place.

Yeah, I know. I live in what's considered the wettest. By strictly rainfall, we shouldn't really be a desert but we are. Annual rainfall average is 12 inches.

Though, most of that comes during monsoon season. Perhaps minecraft deserts should get violent but rare thunderstorms.

Could be based off of biome too, perhaps. We know they are divided up by rainfall amounts, with deserts not seeing any rain.
Hope that changes though. Deserts should at least get very rare rain.

Or sandstorms. Sandstorms would be neat.

Hmm. This will be a tough one... games like that with no win conditions are pretty rare. But here's some I could think of:

Mount & Blade - Closest match is Pirates!... you ride a horse instead of a boat and stab people instead of shoot them. Ride around the countryside doing odd jobs or pledge allegiance to one of the nations. Raise up (or hire) a small army or band of marauders to pillage the enemy. Or traders if you feel like being a bandit. Warbands adds more stuff to M&B including a new nation.

Tropico - Fits nation building exactly, but there is no real competition with other nations (barring special events). Hence little AI interaction unless you are including civilians and whatnot. But you get to rule an island nation as you see fit, either as a tyrant who bleeds them dry or a benevolent dictator who seeks to cater to their every need.

Spore - Less of a match. There are clear "win conditions" for the early phases, but space phase is relatively open even if there isn't too much to do. I think there was an expansion pack that added more to space phase, though.

This isn't easy. :P

Making a planet entirely uninhabitable for anybody is difficult, if not impossible in some games. Odds are that you are making it more habitable for someone else out there. Possibly even you.

Plus, even when using the highest hazard weapons, you'll probably obliterate the entire population of the planet before it turns into a barren wasteland. Though you are likely to do significant damage, which will hinder any regrowth of the target empire. Certainly a valid goal.

I did not know this but this explains a lot.

Apparently, ore distributions are slightly messed up. SW of spawn has the highest (unbugged?) concentrations of ore, while NE of spawn has the least.
This was noticed on my friends SMP server too. He lives NE of spawn and has trouble getting ore compared to my location in the SE. Nobody lives in the SW though.

I ran cartograph on one of my own maps, this does seem to be real. It's quite noticeable for iron.

I did the math. Unless I'm mistaken, the city is 17x17.

It's so huge it overflows from its own region tile. Most players could fit their entire fort inside one of those with plenty of room to spare.

The only thing I can really say is this.. those cities are sure going to be !!fun!! when Toady makes wood constructions burn.

There was an arcade game where you controlled a ghost and could possess a wide variety of enemies you face to fight your way through platformer-like levels.

Unfortunately, since it's an arcade game, you'll have to resort to emulators and such. I think it's pretty obscure, took me a couple tries for my Google-fu to succeed.

It's pretty easy to do so if you dedicate every university to it. You can probably get it within a week if you have a significant pool of money and about 5-10 full universities dedicated to it. If not a few days due to luck.

Well, if they get too big they'll probably be on the recieving end of another antitrust suit.
Happened in the 70s, could happen again.

The next expansion is also supposed to be a stand alone version. It's essentially a mini-sequel.
