DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Why does this keep happening?

Nor do I. But I could probably rig up one in one of my fortresses since I don't actively play them as of late. Backing it up, of course. :P

Can splatbridges destroy the artifact? I was under the assumption splatbridges crush all.

According to the wiki and from what I've heard, yes. Never wanted to try it myself for obvious reasons. Except maybe on the elves...

More or less. Until they get annoyed and fill some of your dwarves with arrows.

Kobolds seem to only trigger their "war" flag when they send ambushers to you. Otherwise they remain at peacce, despite sending numerous thieves to steal stuff.

There's your problem. They were happily sparring away, then she got distracted by that nice door and accidentally beheaded her sparring partner!

I think the problem is that they don't have wrestling skill. I've heard from other discussions that being unskilled makes them more dangerous while sparring. Especially so if they're wielding a masterpiece weapon and have very high strength.

In a way it makes sense. A novice would make a fatal mistake in a sparring session, one that'd probably make his partner part company with their head.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: I AM SPAM

I too tried the 2 week beta.

My stay was dotted with random crashes at jumpgates, then a massive patch... that caused constant crashes and completely failed to work for the rest of my trial.

Massive turnoff.

I mean, WoW has buggy patches, but EVE's just completely failed to work at all.

Coins? Sounds like bad news to me.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: What is a hist fig?

Probably. They gave it some name with the word "flowers" in it.

It was quite funny, the poor thing just kept going unconscious every four seconds and sat around. It even had the courage to very, very slowly crawl onto land and towards the doors leading to the rest of the fortress.

I finally had to get rid of it since dwarves pissing their pants and running away crying from an unconscious, injured cave crocodile were getting annoying :P

If I ever get the chance I should check to see if it got noted in the legends screen. Maybe I can find out what it did besides crawl around coughing.

I had my dwarves give an injured cave crocodile a name. It killed nothing I could see, but it was floating around in the middle of the river periodically going unconscious. Maybe it was killing frogmen or something. But I'm positive it killed nobody... it practically couldn't, since it would go unconscious every four seconds.

I don't know what you are talking about. Goods can be traded regardless of their damage modifier, it only affects their value.

Perhaps you mean the parentheses? That indicates that the item was created outside of your fortress and does not contribute to fortress wealth. Or exported wealth. Or something. I think both. Those can be traded but they cannot be given as an offering to merchants.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Do goblins swim?
« on: February 29, 2008, 04:07:00 am »
They are probably capable of learning to swim, if given the right circumstances. But there's no use for training goblins to swim, unless you want some kind of goblin swimming contest or something, and have bets or something.

Hehe. My situation isn't the same, but my hammerer is still useless.

One day, my captain of the guard was taking a break outside, and a giant sand desert scorpion decided to take a stroll near the entrance of my fort. A few dwarves pissed their pants in fright and dropped what they were doing to go cry in a corner, but the brave captain charged at it with his axe. The scorpion took notice and quickly began running. After looping all the way to the top of the map, then back down towards the entrance... it passed by the entrance again, and the hammerer, also assumably, on break noticed the scorpion and went after it. The scorpion was stopped by the captain and started to beat him up. He had already gotten a few injuries by the time the hammerer started attacking, then the scorpion started beating on the hammerer. After recieving a mangled wound, a hammer found its mark and killed the scorpion.

Leaving me with both dwarves with mangled limbs! They haven't healed yet and it's been at least 10 years since that incident.

I've had them obliterate my dwarven caravan before.
