Does anyone know if stone incorporated into constructions still affects FPS? I know it still shows up in the stock screen for some reason, which makes finding out what resources you actually have nearly impossible, but I would guess it didn't affect framerate directly as constructions don't care about temperature and such.

Yeah, sorry about that. I'll put up what I have tomorrow. Serious.  :)

Yay!

I've got a growing feeling this whole re-build is some kind of sadistic experiment and somewhere someone is cackling madly as they watch leagues of forumites anxious as they await the Overseer's release.

I concur.

Peterix intends to update for 34.07 in a few hours, I think, so either tonight or tomorrow I should be able to put something up.

DF General Discussion / Re: Future of the Fortress

Are rollers assigned a direction, or do they just accelerate the carts in whichever direction they are already moving?

For example, if I had something like:

      ||
==roller==
      ||
     cart moving up
      ||

could I orient the roller to launch the cart to the right/left, or would it always shoot straight ahead?

DF Suggestions / Not tracking items in some constructions
« on: April 09, 2012, 06:06:07 pm »
This is just a minor issue.

I'm not sure how much of an effect this has on actual game performance, but I've been very annoyed while working on a megaproject recently by how DF keeps track of every stone in every construction individually and lists all stones together in the stock menu. It makes determining how much of a particular kind of stone you have left next to impossible, and makes searching through stocks much slower in general. Obviously storing this information is useful in some cases, such as seeing what to create when a bridge made from two chunks of obsidian and an iron bar is deconstructed, but it seems to me that for many kinds of constructions, there is no need to track the contents at all, especially walls and floors and such, as, for example, deconstructing a single rough granite floor tile will always produce a chunk of granite anyway. This would cut down on the number of things which would take up space in the stocks screen, and possibly improve performance slightly as a significant number of items would no longer need to be tracked.

The purple is mostly intentional. I just like the way it sounds, like the grammar which ranges from the abstruse to the downright incomprehensible. The 'more yet he than lose the shade' should be interpreted as sort of like 'and yet he loses more than the shade', with the implication that the shadows of leaves blowing in the wind have more action (and thus more meaning) to their existence than a cabbage does.

Answer: any way we want to. Criss-cross the dining room with them. If they can break down doors, have a track set up to launch them into a set holding back the magma. Fill them with masterworks and dump them into the magma sea. Fill them with !!socks!! and drop them into the food and drink. The possibilities are endless.

What the title says. Jotted down in spare time, touched up later. Meant to be read aloud, preferably in a loud booming voice. More about sound than meaning, though there is some meaning there.

A Complaint on the Laziness and Boastfulness of Young People Today

Youth!
That Diminisher of Excellence!
Perchance the Turnip Flourishes in Indolence,
Yet no Man thus yet Devoured tender Opportunity Presented By Life,
O in those Doldrums, Apathy!
The Lost Crow yet holds More in its Shattered Wing than the Least Wretched of our owners.

Arrogance!
The Pique of the Shattered Sun,
The Declaration of Light Unconquered!
Persistence Precludes the Possibility of Permission.
Dilapidated Old Tower!
Loose the Blinds, Cease the Mindless Praise!

Forlorn the Cabbage, in His Kingdom of Mud and Tortured Vegetables:
Until the Last he waits in squalor.
More yet he than Lose the Shade,
When Shakes the Winds’ Harpstrings on the branch.
Yet Precious thing, Devoid the Face
Of Meaning which refrains from Life,
You lost that long ago which He Keeps in His Dark Kingdom.

Till Sunlights raze the Sky-Born Marshes of the Early Dawn,
The Worm soft Unravels in the Bath of His Destruction.
Yet in His, The Better Act, to fear an Ending than a Lost Decision
Than Seldom the Falsehood.

Touhou. Just managed to clear a particularly tricky spellcard, dashed up to collect powerups, and smacked directly into the boss. Not the most dignified way to die.

DF Suggestions / Re: Homosexual Dwarves

And darn-it why can't we have interspecies breeding.  Really.  As an in-game toggle option.  Affecting race relations as if you include a dwarf-goblin or dwarf-kobold mix, the elves might start getting a little testy.  Talk about "race relations".  As long as cats and dogs are not allowed to interbreed, I think the laws of nature will be basically left intact.  Hey, maybe some randy kobold thief could actually LEAVE a child rather than steal one, ha!!

Well, if we had interspecies breeding the results would necessarily be infertile. Otherwise you would, by definition, have the same species. Not sure if you care about this however.

don't worry guys i haven't abandoned this thread...i've just been too busy to set up an organized voting topic >.<...i'm hoping it'll change soon but...ya never know...life's a bitch at times...

Don't worry about it. The longer we wait, the more likely we get minecarts, so the better the fort is likely to turn out. Thanks for keeping us updated though.

Hmm... that means he's probably not stranded from a caravan, or he'd probably have gone insane by now. Not that any non '@' should be a caravan. Just because, are they wearing anything, and if so, can you find it under 'stocks'?

It may not add any value for you. Obviously, other people think it would add value for them. It is much less 'your game' than it is 'our game', though not as much as it is 'Toady's game'.

No, he's saying 'hey, I think it would be a neat idea to add in homosexuality to the game at some point, to give it some more flavor and make relationships more interesting'. The important differences being that this is a proposed goal rather than a demand requiring instant fulfullment and that there is a reason behind it rather than being arbitrary.
