DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Kisat Dur: the Dwarven Martial Art
« on: March 19, 2021, 11:29:44 am »
This seems kinda backwards to me. I mean, if it only concerns blunt attacks maybe, but every megabeast with claws and teeth tends to laugh at this notion of velocity and calls it (along with my unlucky headless adventurers) smol.

So either this suggestion doesn't play out as claimed with edged natural attacks, or eventually at a certain level of size it balances back out in the larger creature's favor.

No man is an island, basically. Or to put it in terms that sort of person will be more familiar with: We live in a society. :P

That would tie in with the economic explanation, yes. Though the moral failure that led to slavery becoming racial predates the invention of the cotton gin and thus the development that led to slavery becoming profitable again, so...

Seems like a chicken and the egg scenario where greed and racism create a feedback loop of "willing to justify profiting off exploitation" pinging back and forth off of "want to continue profiting"

Personally I'm surprised the economic complications don't get thrown around more by southern apologists. Having a line of logic that can be followed to provide context for the situation that led the south to become less industrialized goes a long way towards explaining the pragmatic reasons, and to someone who doesn't care about reality "explains" is close enough to "justifies" for their purposes.

Then again, I would suppose "failed so hard at the industrial revolution that the rich people felt like slaves were still the more profitable option even as they were losing a war where industrial production is vital" probably doesn't sit well as an excuse to the sorts of (often also wealthy) conservatives who tend to end up in charge of screwing up education.

I strongly recommend Bright Nights, yeah. It's a lot more curated towards actually being a game, and deliberately avoids a lot of features that're still broken in various ways to this day.

A summary of differences can be found here: https://github.com/cataclysmbnteam/Cataclysm-BN/wiki/Changes-so-far

Meanwhile in Arcana, I've got a WIP update self-PR'd here: https://github.com/chaosvolt/cdda-arcana-mod/pull/179

In a nutshell, it'll add a mission chain to an NPC who shows up at the rural church holdout after you complete all of Sofia's missions. I've got the first mission already cooked up:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Next step is working on the setup for the second mission, another dialogue/investigation mission. Setup there is the information you recover gives you what to look for but most of the clues need help from someone more knowledge to help narrow down the location. Then I plan for it to potentially lead into another quick dive into a potentially-dangerous area, depending on who you get a lead from.

Then finally, a good ol' lab dive, into what'll be a custom-made location. It's probably going to represent the overwhelming majority of work here, since it'll be a large location.

Now that the cheeto has been evicted, it's time to start work on purging both parties, yes.

In other news, Abbot has decided that Texas needs another spike in the 'rona, presumably as a distraction from the winter storm that was able to wreak so much havoc due to his party's love of deregulation, and thus has canceled the statewise mask and occupancy mandates.

As a Texan, I get the feeling I'm gonna want to upgrade to full MOPP gear at this rate, because last time I had to go out I saw plenty of dumbasses going unmasked even before this fresh injection of idiocy.

Wow, so after stating that they don't support hate speech and false information, immediately after Trump is out they turn around and monetize the ability to spread hate speech and false information? Twitter's only real problem with it was that it was public. But why, if you're willing to pay and we can just send it to you directly, then there's no need to moderate!

Companies only care about money, and are nobody's friend. This is not a surprise.

Having a functional infrastructure for treating drug addiction, and a mental health care system that actually works, would cut down on the need for the prison system by a massive amount, even if it won't be enough to eliminate it.

They're pulling mills in the wind to turn the birds gay? :V
