Kickass. And the [TRAINABLE]? It would save a lot of annoyance what with the semi-annual langur-charge. And maybe I could put captured snakes and/or underground critters to good use.

Taming rutherers wouldn't conflict with goblins? Not that they've rought any, I think my limit is too low for sieges.

Does adding a tag mid-game even work?

Use them for catapult science. :P

I think the opposite happened. It triggered happy thoughts in people who are glad that that didn't happen to themselves. :P

I'll just go ahead and one-up you by mentioning my current fort started out with brown recluse spider man webs lying around.  :P My CMD got a lot of experience and a glorious all-round crafting career from that!

I didn't know they weren't proficient spinners though. Not that it matters much, Toady did do a heckuvalot of research on actual interesting things like syndromes and venom. :P

Had my umpteenth forgotten beast today. The previous one was still roaming the inaccessible bits of the cavern below and the one before that still existed in lung-form in my food stockpile.

This one was made of onyx. He got beheaded. Which triggered a weak dwarf hauling his 25428-weight"onyx" up a good 40-odd stairs before dumping it on a bone/shell/teeth/horn-pile for my legendary bone carver CMD to work with.

Can I do anything with this onyx? His (also weighty at 1271) head ended up on the refuse pile outside.

Thanks for the Fighter, that's 30 less goblins, trolls, and forgotten beasts.

But when fighting, say, goblins, a steel axe is far more likely to lop off limbs and appendages left and right than a spear of equal quality and skill.

Not that the speardwarf won't give it a jolly good effort though.

Or maybe my speardwarf was slightly more focused/less sadistic in combat than my axedwarf. Nah that isn't it either. Speardwarf liked to stab legs and twist the spear.

For fighting goblins, kobolds and monkeys you'll want an axedwarf. For fighting things like (blind cave) ogres a spear is better. Limbs aren't likely to fly with those bastards anyway and the spear can reach organs much better.

Theoretically speaking, a halberd should be the perfect combination of reach, penetration and limb-lopiness.

Use floorgrates as murder-holes. :P

Thing is, if his ghost appears and a dwarf sees it then they know he's dead. When they know that, you should be able to slab him.

If he appears as a ghost and haunts the inside of the volcano however, he's shit out of luck.

Metal bars, wood, booze, meltable stuff. That's genrally what I buy from them. :P

Human caravans are as prissy about making a gigantic profit as elves are prissy about wood.

Try trading in several smaller steps, should cut down dramatically on their tendency to demand more and on their tendency to get angry and leave. A judge of intent helps in that regard too.

Just had lots of fun, a goblin ambush was kind enough to reduce my population from seventy eight to a mere eight!

FUN!

What, a single ambush? Have you not heard of these fancy new-fangled inventions called "military"? Or "walls" for that matter? :P

Yeah, I was actually in the process of making a military, but the goblins beat me to the punch. I had just gotten a migrant wave of forty or so dwarrow, and was making weapons and armor for them.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that due to a lack foresight on my part, during all the commotion the well was overflowing. Flooding the lower levels of the fort.

Ooh harsh.

I don't think jumping actually exists in Dwarf mode. Aside from the dodging-move that is. No, nobody will every try to jump a ditch. They'll walk around or become completely flustered by it.

It doesn't show up when a single dwarf is "hauled", so no.

A rare and sudden case of Dwarven efficiency. It might be best if your CMD stays in hospital, this isn't right.
