DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?

First human caravan arrived at the same time as the first goblin ambush. A few feet away from each other. Only one human died and he was a (quite efficient) guard so it wasn't too awful.

In an after-battle orgy of violence (barracks were locked due to miasma) against hapless capybaras one of my militia apparently fell into a murky pond and drowned. He was only even reported missing/dead when I cut through the side of the pool (making a soggy mess out of part of my base) to bury him.

Good thing I had been watching/listening to MrWeebl nearly all day or else the oddness would've driven me loopy. :P

Man, I hope webs and such can't carry syndromes. Or else the act of donning a new pair of socks could spell doom for the unwary dwarf. Horrible blistery burning oozing doom.

Gives them time to think on what they've done and to repent. :P

It's not a whole lot stranger than sentencing 70-year olds to 150 years in prison. :P

Mr. Ious indeed.

It's the dwarf who carried it to the butchers shop you've got to feel sorry for.

Then again that'd be a pretty galling task for the butcher as well.

I don't know man, swimming in gore seems like the kind of thing some dwarfs would enjoy.

I had one with a stoat jack and my hunter. Hunter walks around, shoots once, uphill, hits it in the head. It doesn't damage the brain, but the stoat is hurled away and hits the ground so hard it dies of that.

Bonus points for style.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: So I dug underneath a river...
« on: February 18, 2012, 04:13:26 pm »
If you're properly (as in the level below) underneath it then you can disregard the damp wall and dig them away. Don't dig up because then the river will come flooding in, but you'll be fine if you stay at that level/go lower.

The only time when damp stone is dangerous is if you suspect there's water on the other side of it, like with aquifers or maybe an unkown underground sea.

Well, I am now. :P

It's pretty awesome but it does lead to a few minor but amusing oddities. :P

Like "cut clay loam". Which involves the jewellers bringing clay loam to the shop, doing nothing with it and leave it lying it around as "clay loam".  Nothing apparently happened to the clay loam but you can encrust/smear stuff with it.
I imagine it's because clay items don't have a place in the stockpile. You actually can make clay cabochon though.

Really? They didn't end up as any kind of "cut" for me. Odd.

This is a well-crafted iron shield. It is encrusted with square yellow cats' eyes and a smear of clay loam. It menaces with spikes of clay loam. No wait nevermind the clay spikes fell off.

Ahahaha.

I had a king consort once. He had a kid and was married to the civ's queen, who didn't grace us with her presence.

Make a meeting hall zone over it, should work.

I'm pretty sure they're meat-y. In that, I've had butchers working on a bunch of them and we ended up with meat.

You should've sentenced him to a hammer-and-staking.

Or a magma-ing.
Or just lock him up somewhere.

*snip*

Being attacked by undead causes unhappy thoughts.  You are going to have to pamper your military if they see a lot of undead action.

Oh yeah, I know. I had to draft more because otherwise it would've been too much for her. I assigned her the first room, with a bit more luxury than usual and I intend to give her better quality furniture when I have it. She also had the chance to cry on the shoulder of my expedition leader and it helped, so giving the exp. leader consoler wasn't a bad idea. :P
