My phobias are a little weird. I have a massive fear of wasps and bees... I think it's only because I've never been stung before, though the way a wasp hovers is something that is particularly frightening for some reason. I have a problem with certain kind of spiders, but perfectly happy to hold a tarantula. The seas is just the fear of the unknown to me.

Also yeah, turtles. Just referring to the snapping turtle with the strongest jaw in the world (or strongest for it's size, I can't remember. Think it's about two tons of force behind it though.). Just like if a dog mauled you when you were wee would quite rightly, give a fear of dogs, I can understand your phobia. However, saying to others that it's insane to go swimming is... I hate to say it's amusing for just in case, but it is :P.
I recognise the dangers, but I also know the liklihoods. For instance, I know that around Scotland (not like I'd touch the freezing waters of Scotland...), there is a very very VERY small risk of shark attacks. If at all. But I also know not to dive here, since it's the only place in the world where if you can get a diving license, it works for everywhere in the world. It's dangerous because of the terrible visibility and eels.

I want islands. But I also think that everyone on seperate islands would induce isolationists. I know for a fact that I would be one of those. It could be 6 players, 3 islands. That'd work.

XD Lions are the same in terms of killing the previous male's cubs before mating with the females. Very unsurprised, me.

Still, dolphins are the second most intelligent lifeform on this earth behind mice. AND they kick shark's asses, even to save us, so! Evil or not (not like humanity's not evil) they are friends. :P

Also, this is now WAYYYY off topic.

Snakes, like most predators, are ambush predators. They won't rely on the chase to get you. :P Also, snakes kill crocs. Yeah. Good to know personally. Having said that, I hate hippos so much more.

Ok, bull sharks, I'll grant you. But until we MEET them, I'm going to assume they're not around these islands. :3

Deep waters are still fine in a large enough canoe/boat. Kraken and other mythical creatures aside. So, essentially, that is what the gm can make, which can make the waters good to fish. Reason can triumph over paranoia! :P

(Sometimes, I wonder if I'm too straight-laced for this forum. I don't know why, I'm crazier nearly everywhere else. Normally I'd say that we'd make armour out of turtle shells and become impregnable, or that our canoes have metre long spikes portruding at the bottom to kill incoming sharks and DOLPHINS! But no, I just state what I know XD)

xD Yeah, I share your fear of the deep, in all honesty. I don't like being in water where I can't see the bottom. :P

Totally meant to say that deeper water fishing is risky compared to shoreline scavenging and river fishing. But you're still far less likely to be attacked by a shark when you're on a canoe compared to a predator on land attacking you whilst on a hunt.
Snakes are as deadly on land as in water XD. Tho, if there are crocs, that would make rivers a little more dangerous.

fishing versus hunting can be easy to fix. Joben covered alot of the disadvantages of a hunt, and I agree. Bows, spears and multiple people are needed for a good hunt. I would suggest a hunt be risky but with a worthy award, but you don't do it too often lest you risk injury/death.

Fishing, in certain cultures on rivers, is a very reliable food source with little to no risk. If you want fishing to be the main food source, then making it stable and easy would be the solution. Going on the notion that there are multiple ways of fishing, you could have canoe fishing with spears in a river/shallow waters be risk free but low yield (not horrendously low, but you're not going to suddenly make a large surplus, unless the fishers are pretty skilled.)
Net fishing in deeper waters, on the other hand, would require bigger canoe's, use nets and be harder to use, so you'd prefer trained or experienced fishers for them. They can get anything from low yield to very high, depending on the season and luck. In that case, it'd be a less risky version of hunting.
Then you got yoinking up crabs and things, which can be done by both children and women. I know many tribal and celtic cultures followed this line. It's easy food, but again, wouldn't provide much more than the day's food. Unless you find a beached shark :P

Just realised this is what Ebbor was talking about, but with some added mechanics. Anyway, that was my thought.

Name: Flufflefairy Tenath
Race: Elf
Age: 57
Bio: Tenath is an elf. It's only NATURAL that every other race despises him. Heck, even other elves look down on him. But, he's quick with his hands and even quicker on his feet, so he gets by. Just don't ask how he failed so bad as to get captured.
Inventory: Prison clothes, bowl of gruel, a pin.

Action: Pick lock {Tails}

Caz, that is disgusting XD

Found this topic. Read the old topic. Love what I read. Would like to reserve a spot, but I'll give my spot away to someone from the original list should they express desire to play again.

EDIT: Meant to also put forth a suggestion. I thought about having groups of people working on the same thing could get bonuses to reflect working together. You could reduce how many rolls you have to do aswell; for instance if 3 people work on a hut that takes 3 successful work days/men to complete, then you roll 1 die with a +3 modifier (or whatever seems appropiate for a d20) as to a complete success, or whether it may need finishing the next day (which could be an automatic success).
Just thought some macro-management could reduce the amount of work the gm has to put in, which is always a good thing.

Waitlist... we meet again!

Name: Matt Connors
Age: 24
Short description: 6 foot tall, average build, dark green eyes, dishevelled brown hair, has some stubble. Fit, tends to wear light body armour, or if worse comes to worse, bits and bobs put together without limiting movement.

Bio: Matt had no desire to wonder out to scavenge. Food wasn't a massive problem, so he saw no point to risk lives out there. Especially when his parents were killed just to get some extra tech that wasn't necessary to survival. That's how he saw it anyway. However, he couldn't stand seeing people being killed either, and goes out to protect the scavengers.
He has a strong sense of comraderie and constantly puts himself in the most open of positions if it means he can buy others time. Somehow, he gets out of them ok, though often it's because he takes up rear action just to find the robots ambushed the front.

Stats:
HP 10 hp (2pts spent)
Attack 1 att (1pt spent)
Defense 1 def (2pts spent)

Inventory:
(Standard handgun)
(M16 rifle)
(EMP flashbang)

Just watching this time around. The lack of Elfeater to avenge that humiliation... THE PLOT WAS AGAINST ME! :)

Name: 'Oneshot'

Starting Weapon: Musket
Ability: Master of 1: +2 to offensive musket use. Good for nothing else: -1 to all other equipment except unarmed. Patient Hunter: Always goes last.
Appearance: Wears so many rags and ripped cloth that he's positively overdressed. Scarves hide his face and wears goggles. Very messy hair. Standard build.
Brief Biography: Calm and collected Oneshot. What people don't know is why he likes using a musket. He doesn't say. A mercenary by trade, times got a little tough and now, he's in this competition, assured in his own abilities.

Apart from the bayonet, what IS the advantage of the musket? :P
