Wet soil grows grass sustitute.

As well as trees.

Or breach the caverns, or embark with an extreem temperature.

I was in a very icy biome and it was flat, the substitute grew in the floor for some reason.

Hot for sure grows the stuff inside on soil.

By soil I mean anything you could build a farm plot on.

I usualy just have 10 dorfs with the enitire farming set enabled, and theres the farmers.

I have two (usualy) dorfs that just mine thats it.

The crafter battalion is most everybody else, they get the rest of the jobs.

If I get to it the profile thing is used to get me a "Smithers" legendary metal guy.

I don't use dwarf rapist I just have muscle memory of how to mass produce crafters.

Phobiuse's tileset has sticky shift keys and is not as fast as vanillia.

But it is square and thats nice.

Just use windows as is.

If the dorfs get mad then the magma wll make sure it never happens again.

Or just use more than one window; Like extra thick glass.

This way you can rebuild from the inside.

As for the outside; make a drain probobly on you'r next fort.

I noiced that you have names for you'r dorves.
By that I mean GOOD names.
I name my starting seven,1,2,3,4,5,6,7, respectivly.
I used to name them after me and my freinds, but the names were too long for how easy they die.

3.Try not to die while doing the forty buisiness.

We at The Board of Fortresess are hill dwarves mostly, our main enemy is the aquifer.

No I won't remove it via modding that would be too easy.

In world gen set ore occurence to everywhere.

That is in the basic worldgen too so its not very complicated.

Get a place with NO aquifer.

I have been playing since August 14, 2011 ,last year and I still haven't breached an aquifer without finding an edge to the aquifer allowing me to go around.

Frozen aquifers: Bloody death trap. The wiki might help but I don't want to use it , just cause.

Silver is for hammers not maces or anything else, militery wise.

You get much shinier metal near the caverns. (Deep)

Make a room for goblins to die in and then take there mess.

This has been mostly a summary of what the guys before me said but it has a few extra details.

Such as Candy is NOT for hammers or hitting devices.

Wow thats cool.

I used somthing similer to this for minecraft.

The one in minecraft could't be used to destroy entire seiges though, just an elavator.

Very neat stuff, I never have the patience for things like this.

I've never actually managed to create a single tantrum spiral. I feel a bit embarrased saying that. Perhaps this fortress design will fix that.

I haven't had any tantrum spirals ever, also. But I think it depends on the current population size, since I usually play with forts with about 100 dwarves.
Oh wow, really? Hell, i've had crippling spirals at 50 or so. I've never even heard of someone who's never had one.

Yeah I have no idea how you dont have dwarves killing each other  at least monthly.

Crap I forgot about the protect burrow.

I've never used it on anything but civies but it has a squad extension too dosen't it.

I can put a full squad in there now.

Normaly I have just one super soldier for my fort of; usualy only live to 70 but currently 40 ish.

Wow I never used a barrakcs designation.

Should make it slightly easier to get the dorfs in the room.

Also the design I use only works on one dorf,this might do more it looks like.

Will have to try that.
