DF Modding / Reactioned gloves unwearable?
« on: March 11, 2012, 03:28:55 am »
I am really new to modding. I also never learned how to play DF properly; I've only ever played adventure mode. That said, I find it odd that there are no steel items ever. I decided to mod in some reactions allowing the adventurer to "reforge" iron items into their steel equivalent. A little cheap, but I like it. I got longswords, shields, breastplates and mail shirts to work. When it came to gloves however, I can get the reaction to play out (the game doesn't crash) but the resulting glove cannot be worn. This is what I have so far.

Can anyone help? Thanks in advance

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I have also tried it so the product line reads:

with no luck.

DF Modding / Is it possible to mod shield attacks?
« on: March 11, 2012, 02:12:46 am »
Hey guys. I wanted to mod an edge attack onto bucklers (as if they had a spike) to make them more viable. I was looking around in the raws for the ability to mod in shield attacks, but I didn't see one. Does anyone know if it's possible?

*FYI* I am incredibly new to modding. All of my previous attempts have failed pretty spectacularly. Please be patient with me lol. Thanks.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: raising willpower

I've noticed my willpower and endurance increase after intense wrestling training (read: wrestling incredibly mangled woodland creatures/zombies for a good while). You might want to give that a shot.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Your Vampire Jewellery Record

what surprises me is how little everyone seems to care that their neighbor wears multiple dozen forms of jewelry, ALL FROM DEAD THINGS.
I mean obviously if you weren't knowledgeable about bones and stuff you couldn't tell where they're from, but in that quantity you think they'd get suspicious.

I've noticed that veterans will occasionally wear the remains of sentients they have killed. No where near as much as a vampire, but I could see how a new vampire with few trinkets could go undetected for a while.

Fighting zombies didn't seem all too hard to me. Get your primary defensive skill up (I recommend shield use over dodging, because dodging into a pillar/wall will end you) and engage the zombies one at a time. If there are necromancers present, kill them first at all costs. Should there not be any necros present, simply go for the easiest hit you can. I've collapsed zombies by taking off a finger, for example. Your attacks don't have to be particularly crippling, they just have to connect. That's how it worked for me, at any rate. Any way, if you have the choice between a blunt attack and a sharp attack, I recommend the blunt. Even with a sword, take slaps and hilt strikes over slashes. The less loose body parts, the less a wandering necromancer can raise at you. Just my two cents anyway.

I've had an opposite kind of thing happen. I've gone for attacks of opportunity (what I call those blue exclamation mark attacks) on small targets and hit the larger part. For example, I did a blue sword slap to the ear and ended up killing the guy cause I cracked his skull open. Weird huh?

Hey guys. Do you know if becoming a necromancer prevents you from becoming a werebeast? Thanks in advance.

You can do most everything with your arms that you can do with your hands. The only three things I can think of that you can't are disarming, pinching and gouging out eyes, but even then, you can cut off hands, or throw your shield at them AND THEN gouge out their eyes with your newly freed hand. Good fun.
