Ah, the Terran Republic. How I loved thee. They offcially had the best ever motto EVER for a game that included respawning.

"Loyalty Until Death!"

I decided I'll make myself a little diety.

Gordons existance was coming to an end. He'd been around for a very, very long time. Time was taking its toll on this lonely, sad and unfortunate creature. It was nearing an end to what had been happening for ever. He sat down in his comfy arm chair not noticing how tattered it was after millenia of use. He sat, watching the fire burning softly in front of his feet. Picking up a book, titled simply "Everything", lying on a table to his side he began writing.  This is the story of a man named Jeff.

We come to a small patch of clearing in a forest in a nondescript area somewhere. The trees rustle with the winds of the north, the grass is as green as ever. Birds flying merrifully together, small woodland creatures nuzzling about in the bountiful bushes. Suddenly, a large pop rings out from the middle of the clearing. Out of nowhere comes a figure with the most handsome features to bestow such lands. With two legs and two arms a head, and 20 functioning digits, he resembles what some call 'Human', others a travesty but thats another story for another time. Jeff was what this Man knew to call himself. Already he was aware of his existance, showing surprising dignity he hid his naked body from those that may have prying eyes.

Jeff has a purpose. For he is the avatar of Peace, Power and Prosperity*.

OOC: Hi all. Iituem is it ok if I make another god? I'm guessing the Peace goes into the Military sphere here? hee hee, a rhyme (time).

Hmm, i just got Red Orchestra for $5, it'll only last for another few hours, steams doing a big 75% off weekend thing. It is so atmospheric its silly, the bullets wizzing over your head and making you blink think is very ingenius and works surprisingly well :D

And the Legacy of Halo isn't done... They still have a Sequel (I don't believe them for a second when they said it was the last Halo) and Halo Wars (a weak strategy game that plays quite a bit like company of heros)

I don't think it'll be weak, it'll be generic which is completely fine for a console due to the _complete_ lack of them on the controller based platform(s).

And yeah, Ghost recon was quite fun. Oh and theres RBSV which imho was one of the best games out on the 360 so far.

Halo was amazing I admit, but Halo is better by default. Without going into all the nancy fancy graphics are better blah blah blah. I feel it made the leap that Halo 2 should have done. By making a sequel to the first game instead of a very weird rip of where everything was just plain weird. The campaign felt more like Halo CE's, the multiplayer is alot more sluggish which is good for a game like Halo, and barring the online community of "noob" throwers people there are very nice and very fun to play with.

Well, its not based on any books, its actually completely fair in the legal stand point since Ubisoft acctually bought the Tom Clancy franchise. It has many many many aspects from other TC related games, such as the Ghost Recons being the main assault troops for the Americans... and quite a few other references.

These were hard times for the Jhiar'd. They'd suffered unacceptable losses in the eyes of the Heads. They were angry. Angry for revenge. And no-one, not even the Lava god was going to stop them. Heads started to unite with a common goal. These new heads seemed different, they're mental abilities all that more sharper than the average leader. No-one but themselves understood what they were on this earth for. Several of the new Heads had achieved leadership status within the colonies. It wasn't unheard of Heads ganging together against another one, or in the case of the war against a alien species. It was different with these ones, they seemed to be working together, for a common goal that no-one else knew of.

Meanwhile, the new tactical leader was assigned a special rank within the army, to the reluctance of a minority of Heads, the Tactician.
He set in motion a series of tasks. For Heads to spread the word that he would be amassing an army at Q17. He began by introduction a rudimentry system of ranks. He would be the "In-charge" bug, the heads would be below him, the Heads would choose a sutible number of warrior "Under" bugs to follow their, and to a lesser extent the command of the other Heads. And each Under would have around 100 bugs to control themselves. The rank were soon copied to a lesser extent the further down the command line. This would increase the effectiveness of each bug during battle, and allow the In-Charge to send commands to the front via the Heads sub-sonic vibrations.

Once this command structure has been established, its time for war. The Jhiar'd (armed with axes before I forget) start to pour through the mountains of Q17 and R17 in a unending swarm

Well, this thread got derailed pretty badly. Now that I've stated the obvious, i shall continue to defend HL's rightful titles of being AWESOME.

HL was released in 1997, 11 years now, created by Valve and published by Sierra. Now, without beginning to wonder what the world of online gaming/direct downloading would have been like without Valve, I have to say that HL was the defining FPS. Its what brought the most to the genre in one step. First of all, it had amazing graphics for its time. The AI was beyond imagination, in a time where DooM-esk enemines ran at you, and never stopped (even for walls), the marines in HL for example worked together to nab you, never before heard of in an FPS. The story was quite frankly groundbreaking for its time, heres a game in a sea of other shoot'em'ups whose biggest plot climax is "You got a BFG." This is a game where the story was thought out, an ddelivered in a way that wasn't too confusing but still had a lovely sense of mystery, "Who is this G-man caracter?" for example. Not to mention the realism the game brought. Weapons were no longer spinning and floating in the air waiting for you to pick them up. You had to search for them. Use them tactically. It spawned some truly amazing sequels, Opposing Forces is quite arguably the same level of AWESOME as HL 1 is. Blue shift, not so much, it was short but sweet.

The multiplayer side is frankly too big to start on. It spawned amazing classics such as Team Fortress/Counter-strike/Sven Co-op/Natural Instincts, the list is endless frankly.
It then funded the company to creat the epic that was the Source Engine. That needs to mention of how amazing it is.

Half Life 2 is definitely overrated. I've been trying to play it but it's incredibly boring. The environments are all pretty much the same, the enemies are repetitive and annoying, and anything new gets re-used and prolonged until it gets annoying.

I have to say the game itself is boring, but where the real fun is is in the mods.
