Welcome to Apex Academy

Summary:
You and thirty six other students have been selected for your aptitude and skills in various fields- one might say that you are indeed the Ultimate representations of such skills-, from the practical, such as programming, to the esoteric, such as gaming, to join the finest school in the world, Apex Academy; a school where only the gifted of the gifted-or the lucky- are educated. Here, in addition to your usual education, your skill will be trained and honed until you are the finest example in that field the human race could possibly field.

The human race, in its dark times, needs the finest and greatest in its fields now more than ever, and you have been selected for such a task. Luck shines down upon you today.

Please, make yourself feel at home. Your orientation will begin shortly.

OOC:
This is not an ordinary school roleplay. This RP is based on the Danganronpa visual novel series; the premise being that highly talented students are gathered in a school to, well, learn and end up murdering each other horribly, and those not murdering each other must investigate the murders and find the killer- or die themselves.

This means people will die. Do not fail to find the killer, and do not get killed. Rules are below.

This roleplay is almost wholly freeform, due to the nature of it all.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Interest Check- Danganronpa RP
« on: June 30, 2015, 01:18:27 pm »
Danganronpa is a series of visual novels based around the premise of the most skilled students in their field; referred to as Super High School Level/Ultimate Students- going to an academy and suddenly being overrun by the entity Monokuma, who subjects them to the Mutual Killing Game.

In effect, all the students must kill each other. The survivor gets to leave.

Basically, the players would be playing Ultimate Students, masters of their skill; whether it is something mundane, such as being the Ultimate Chef, or something esoteric, such as being the Ultimate Princess. Their job is to survive and escape the Mutual Killing Game before they are all murdered, all the while solving cases of murders among the student body.

Preferably, of course, the players escape while most of them are still alive.

In effect, the rules would be as thus:
1. There would be three phases per ingame day.
-The Morning phase, where players will be gathered in a hub to be talked to by Monokuma(or equivalent) and potentially discuss evidence, murders and other things. Any murders committed at Night will be declared here.
-The Day phase, where players are free to do as they wish, including and up to murdering another player.
-The Night phase, where players are gathered in a hub and sent to their dorms again. Any murders committed in Morning and Day phase will be declared here if not found by a player prior. Murders can be committed in the Night phase, but will only be detected in the morning.
2. Murders committed will not be automatically announced. A murder committed, whether player-made or NPC-made, will only be declared during the Night/Morning phase unless discovered by a player.
3. Once a murder is discovered, every player will be gathered in automatically, regardless of phase to discuss.
4. Once the gathering is over, the game regardless of time will enter Investigation phase. All players must now find and locate evidence relating to the murder and decide if said evidence is relevant. This evidence can be anything from a physical piece of evidence to a verbal confession recorded. Once all players deem all possible evidence to be gathered and one informs Monokuma(or the equivalent entity), the Trial phase will begin.
5. During Trial, all players will gather in and discuss the evidence, discussing their reasons for believing one character is the murderer.
6. Once all arguments for and against all potential suspects' innocence have been made and a suspect declared, it will be determined if the players succeeded in finding the murderer.
7. If the players are correct, the murderer will be executed (and if a PC, will be out of the game). If the players are wrong, however, everyone except the murderer is executed.
8. If the murder was in fact a suicide, nobody is executed.
9 (possibly). Players may be allowed to murder other players or NPCs. (NPCs will never murder PCs). However, it will be mediated with the GM, with both the murder victim and the murderer, and if the PC is caught, they will be subject to the same punishment as NPC murderers.

Well, did I miss anything? Do you guys have any suggestions? Should I allow PC murders? Anything else?*

*Yes, I realise how similar this is to Mafia. The difference is that Mafia has pre-defined roles aside from 'potential murderer/innocent' and is probably going to be far less hectic than this knowing the GM. And is a lot more structured than this crap. :P

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Persona: Millennium: Still Alive

                                                               Persona: Millennium
Chronos:
Tatsumi High School, Neo Kyoto City
Morning Phase
It’s raining. The skies are grey over the city. It’s spring rain- but unexpectedly heavy.

You are but one of various students starting their first or second years in Tatsumi High. You’re on your way to the school, whether on one of the various inner-city light rail services that stop nearby, on one of the two or so bus services or walking through the rain past a mixture of historical buildings from Old Kyoto and the futuristic buildings defining Neo Kyoto.

If you watch the news, you’d probably have heard the usual- a bus strike next week, local stocks going down, and yet another death from exhaustion linked to Millennium. You switched the TV or radio off when you heard yet another one of those fundamentalist speakers who linked the whole thing to the decadence of society or something- a bunch of rubbish.

However, something interesting happened this morning. Regardless of wherever you lived in Neo Kyoto, you received a strange envelope in the mail.

No return address, and it was addressed specifically to you.

The only thing inside was a blank, white plastic card with an unusual insignia- a broken clock being mended by two metallic hands.

You decided to pocket the card, not knowing what else to do with it. Maybe it was from the school or something.
You arrive at school, the question somewhere in your mind, whether at its forefront or somewhere in the back, with ten minutes to spare between now and school starting.

Do as you wish.

                                                                            PERSONA: MILLENIUM
Disclaimer: Persona is the property of Atlus.

Setting:
The year is 20XX, in Neo Kyoto City. It’s the start of the school year, as you are all new to the local high school, Tatsumi High, whether having been residents of the city for your entire lives or newcomers from the countryside, ready to seek a living in Neo Kyoto. The raging trend nowadays is Millenium, a MMORPG focusing on the concept of Time, and featuring various tarot cards. It came out of nowhere to become one of the most played games in the city- seemingly harmless.

Players of Millenium have disappeared from all over Neo Kyoto, found dead or comatose shortly after. The police are utterly stumped by the deaths, and have attempted to track down the makers of Millenium to no avail. They simply blamed it on overexertion and exhaustion from playing games for too long.

You were selected for other reasons.

Through analysis, you were selected- not for having played Millenium, but for being resistant to its effects- and above all, the power of Persona.

All will be explained soon enough. Your adventure begins.

Gameplay:
Within the game, there will be two main sections:

Reality/Chronos: The real world. Players will be able to interact and RP with NPCs and other PCs, as well as do schoolwork and various jobs one might have as a high school student. Here, one can acquire equipment and some boosts which will help you in the second section.
Achronos: The Land Without Time, a mysterious dimension where players of Millenium are dragged to. Players will be able to use Personae, the manifestation of one’s inner psyche, to fight Shadows and free players captured within this dimension. Here, one can level up and earn gold to buy equipment in Reality.

Players:
A player will have two aspects about him:

Character: The character him/herself, a high school student in Tatsumi High, selected for their ability to summon a Persona.
Persona: The manifested inner psyche of a person, granted the power to fight off Shadows. A wielder of Persona is able to enter and exit Achronos at will.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Katawa Shoujo Gaiden OOC: Somehow still alive
« on: November 30, 2014, 04:53:29 pm »
DISCLAIMER: This is not a side game, but a sequel. Considering 'gaiden' means 'another story' and I wanted a title that wasn't 'KS V2', I think it's a fitting title.

Almost two decades after the graduation of Batch 2020 from Yamaku High, a new story unfolds within the school walls, as a new batch comes to the school, trying to deal with their own disabilities and get on with life.

Based off of the visual novel Katawa Shoujo, as a sort of hybrid between a continuation fic and a roleplay.

Monster Girls V2

It's a sunny afternoon in Madness City, the biggest city in the world.

It's been fifteen years since the whole Chimera X incident ended with the half-remembered destruction and arrest of the group responsible, and thus with that, the city has pretty much returned to peace.

The people involved have long since moved on to greater things- some leaving the city, others taking high positions up in Magicsteady Academy, the local magical academy and the biggest one in the city, or other governmental positions.

But first, let's find out what happened to our old friends, eh?
((Time for you to write any epilogues for your old characters, if any.))

The Original Monster Girls RP
IC Thread
TvTropes page
This is the OOC thread for Monster Girls V2.

It will take place in the same universe as the original Monster Girls, with the added bonus of being so slice-of-life, it won't be funny. :D

The Rules!
1. Unless anyone wants to suggest a new stat system, all fights are to be resolved by a d6 roll and RP. Outcomes are as in RTD- epic failure to overpowering success.
2. Six character slots to a player; don't have to fill all of them. One is allowed to swap slots out and delegate a character to NPC status.
3. Don't be a dick. Or you'll be shot! By someone!
4. Ship. Ship everything. Ship ALL the things! ship or die

DF Modding / Fire Emblem DF Discussion
« on: October 10, 2014, 02:54:25 pm »
Having been simultaneously gone from the modding board for almost a year or two and now very interested in Fire Emblem, I've decided to take a stab at modding again. As you can see from above, the aim of this is to get various features from the Fire Emblem games into DF. Most elements thus far will be taken from Awakening, although some things from the Tellius and Archanea games will be present.

The mod itself doesn't exist apart from an unfinished file involving manaketes being converted from an older unreleased mod of mine- I've made this thread to see if anyone has any ideas what I should be placing in game later on when I can actually work on the mod.

So, list of currently brainstormed features:
  • Manaketes- currently considered as a new race with completely new civ. Dragonstones would be unworkable in this situation, hence why they will have dragon forms inherent to them. To compensate, the interaction will wear off after a set period of time and be weaker than a true dragon or wyvern.
  • Taguel or Laguz- same to above. Taguel and Laguz would potentially be different from each other and dragon Laguz removed due to the presence of Manaketes.
  • Fortress Mode Classes: One could build a building focusing on training, say, Assassins and skills would be manifested as interactions, i.e Lethality being a close-range on-touch interaction that instantly kills the target, or Pavise being a self-targeted interaction that renders the user temporarily resistant to every weapon in the game.
  • Adventure Mode Classes: Races starting off with above classes and having an 'experience' system allowing them to gain 'experience' over time via COMBAT_HARDNESS and learning skills.
  • Legendary Weapons: Not sure if weapons have interactions attached to them yet, although I'm wondering if it would be workable to create a special 'metal' to craft, say, the Falchion out of to make dragons weak to it.
  • Civilizations: Instead of dwarves, goblins, elves, most of the civilizations would be changed to the ones from the series, although I'm debating whether to use generic expies or actual civilizations, and if so from what world.
  • Tomes: Currently, there are two ways of handling this: Either have them generated during world production or have forts capable of producing 'tomes' that temporarily grant their reader a certain spell and make them have to re-read one every so often.
  • Wyverns/Pegasi: Common animals depending on civilization. Potentially might have to omit Pegasus Knights and other rider classes as there is nothing short of creating a 'horse' organ for the newly-classed person to provide them with a 'mount'.
  • Reclassing: A building could produce Second Seals and other stuff to allow a person to change class to learn new skills.
  • Promotion: Same as above, only with related promotional items.
So, any ideas guys? What have I missed? Should I implement other things, omit things, implement things differently?

IC Thread

Same as OLD Everything:Gaiden, with a few caveats-

1. We use d50s for rolls.
2. No god-tier characters.
3. You have to have a character sheet for all characters.
4. We follow the Decalogue for anything else.

Spoiler: Character Sheet (click to show/hide)

The Decalogue

1: The GM of each game and the Creator of each setting has absolute control of it. They have the right to dictate anything regarding entities from their domain. In the absence of a GM or Creator, an official rulebook or wikia will suffice, the players who use material from that world have the right to interpret the lore as they see fit as long as the absolute majority of other such players agree to it.
Case in point, @Elf has absolute control of RotMG and @Ragnarok has absolute control over TA as their respective GMs. @Mcclay has absolute control of Eric's world as its Creator and @Vgray has unquestionable right of interpretation of Warcraft as the only user of that world.

2: Unless an agreement is reached, the worlds of each setting are to be considered completely separate with neither influencing the other. An amalgamation requires the consent of both GMs or Creators. In the absence of either, this requires an absolute majority of players with characters from those worlds to agree to it.
Impolitely jamming lore into someone else's lore probably isn't the best idea, especially if they are incompatible.

3: If a lore difference occurs which nullifies a character's ability, the GM or Creator of the relevant world is to provide an equivalent effect, either lore or mechanics-wise if possible.
For example, if someone who could detect magic signatures used it upon Florencio, they should receive the echo data of his recent spells as he has no such signature. Likewise, were they to use it upon Silica, they would receive the words she used in her spell.

4: When multiple entities are omnipotent within a domain, any such entity can veto the actions of the others, regardless of numerical advantage.
Infinity multiplied by one hundred is still infinity. Thus, no matter what a group of entities with infinite power does, a single other entity could simply undo it as numerical differences become meaningless. By that logic, when two contradicting actions are backed by omnipotence, the status quo wins.

5: There are no grandfather clauses.
A person who could veto an action may miss it or not be online at the time, this is by no means an invitation to assume that it is a precedent or permission to utilize it in the absence of an explicit statement.

6: The GM or Creator of a world has no obligation to provide any lore when asked.
It can be used to explain or justify something, but if for whatever reason they refuse to, whether because they haven't completed that lore or because it would be a spoiler, that decision is to be respected.

7: Should the lore of two worlds end up in direct conflict, the relevant parties are to either reconcile it or nullify the action and any required parts of the sequence of events.
Unbreakable objects going against forces that destroy everything can't exactly be resolved easily, so failing resolution, the event in which they interact in a contradictory manner is to be removed to prevent the contradiction from occurring.

8: All absolute property arguments are to automatically be relative to their world. Properties that destroy or erase are automatically defeated by properties that allow survival.
That is, something that destroys everything without fail only does so relative to their originating reality.
Having an indestructible object suddenly become destroyable tends to compromise settings far more than an all destroying effect failing. After all, it is far easier to invoke and abuse (and possibly kill characters using) the former rather than the latter.

9: Unless otherwise stated, relevant aspects of each world is to be assumed to exist.
That is, there is void in the world, there is a television world, there is a border of life and there is a spell server.

10: The crossover itself is not subject to these laws.
There is no point in to futilely questioning how characters from strictly separate realities ended up in the same location nor whether or not it violates their lore.

Otherwise, HAVE FUN!

Taken directly from the original OP:
Bay12 Rumble

Rumble is a surprisingly versatile game system primarily designed with PvP in mind, that I would like to try GMing, with some augmentations to allow for some Co-op and PvE.

Rules summary:
  • Players generate a pool of abilities by choosing from a list or making up their own abilities.
  • Players secretly bid on those abilities spending Energy. Energy is an important resource during actual play; don't spend too much!
  • Each turn, players inform the GM how they spend their current Energy total to attack, defend or use their abilities. (this does not actually consume energy)
  • Actions are revealed simultaneously.
  • Damage taken (attacks-defense) is subtracted from Energy.
  • Players are eliminated when Energy reaches 0.

Spoiler: Character Sheet (click to show/hide)
History (pool): Civillian, previous challenger or blank.
[spoiler=Setting]Simply put, I have a good idea where I'll be going with this, but alternate setting suggestions are welcome.

My current plan for a setting is on a human Worldship after a massive war brought about the existence of genetically and mechanically enhanced super soldiers.

The victorious party in the war chose, rather than idiotically lording their victory over their enemies, to erase all memories of the war from both sides of the general populace, the memory of the war remaining in the minds of the Planetary and Worldship rulers, known as Keepers.  This did not get rid of the existence of the super soldiers however and simply killing them was considered to be both inhumane and wasteful, so they were put to use to entertain the generally bored masses by fighting to the death.  Of course, two things quickly came to light, one, the warriors were dying too quickly, and two the people wanted to see new blood, so three pools were generated to pull from.

The first pool is the Civilians themselves, who can join in on the bloodbath to enhance their personal and political standing, one victory in a tournament grants officiator powers for the next tournament, two and they are allowed some say in public policy on their world/ship, three and they are granted Keeper status of either a Worldship or a Planet of their own, whichever is available.  The second pool is comprised of Clones of old challengers brought back to life, memories restored to a point, a victory in the tournament could give them a civilian body as well as similar privileges to Civilian victors, so that they can go and live lives.  The third pool is quite literally pulled from a pool of genetic soup, these blanks, as they are referred to derogatively by the audience, can be granted a number of things, not the least of which are memories of their own, manufactured reasons for living, and a civilian body.

Of course, it is just a big show, so there's no real reason to get into power politics and metaphysicality of it.

This is a continuation of MrVoid's original game. Currently full, although we're taking waitlisters.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Rise of the Magic Girls: Suggestion Box
« on: December 08, 2013, 04:27:30 am »
This is the official Rise of the Magic Girls suggestion box.

Here, you can suggest anything; although I AM looking for plots.
Requirements for a plot submission:
  • It must have a clear goal.
  • Unless cleared with the GM, it may NOT involve character death that is not expected as due process of the game system.
  • Unless cleared with the GM, you may not; initiate a crossover with any universe that is not already explicitly existing within the game universe, kill everyone, start the apocalypse, or do any action that would affect the world at whole.

So there you go! If you have any concerns, ask me. The plot arc does NOT have to involve all current characters, nor does it have to be a combat oriented arc; it can be a character development based arc, slice of life, or whatever you require.

Plots submitted will then be posted up in this thread for voting upon by the playerbase.

If you have any questions, ask me and happy plotting!
