Hikari pats her on the back, taking out her bow with her free hand.
"If you're sorry, then don't say it, do something! I've got your back! Now help us get those Vertex off that hole!"

15467
((No, she's STRATEGIZING.))
((Is Sachi with this group?  The analyst, that is.))
((Sachi's not with them, no. She stayed at home. She COULD try to contact Sachi, however, but it wouldn't help too much.

Also it's not helpful to strategise if half the damn group doesn't know what you're on about.))
[irr vs ??] The Primordial's Embrace seems to enshroud the monsters for a moment. The tiniest, shortest of moments.

Suddenly, it simply doesn't. A sharp, agonising pain wracks the nigh-infinite being that is It that Embraces, as some sort of eternal presence- as old and great as She- seems to bear down upon Her. She can feel Her infinite reach fading, Her influence being wrenched back into Herself, being crushed by the sheer powers that be. For the first time since the Trespassers, it seems a being- or a group of beings- is capable of matching Her in power.

She can feel their influence upon Her, too. The ideas of hatredcleansepurgeburn being constantly forced upon her, forcing away all feelings of hate and warmth alike, attempting to turn Her into one of Them or send Her into despair otherwise. If it were any save Her will, any mortal would be crushed by the will of so Many.

[25 v 16] Alanis' kinetic barrier manages to throw one of the Vertex, sitting at the top, away from the gash. It simply floats back, but a small crack is visible within its structure, as if the force of the burst managed to shatter something within it.

[6 v 12] Ian launches himself at the Pisces Vertex, ignorant of the struggle of wills between the Primordial of the Warm Embrace and the Gods of the Purging Wrath. The Vertex, however, blasts a laser at his foot, blasting him aside. It misses, but the explosion knocks him off balance.

Anna and Eirika follow Yuri, who immediately attacks the bottom Vertex. With a mighty yell, Yuri blasts the creature with a burst of energy from her staff. Again, with her, the Vertex simply returns after being knocked away, but it also has a crack within its structure.

Sandra cowers. The Pisces, seeing a fresh target, blasts a laser at her, but....
[19 v 12] Hikari manages to tackle Sandra away from the laser, shifted into her Hero Form, pushing her to the ground as the laser passes harmlessly over their heads.

[10 vs 11] ENG manages to land perfectly in front of the thief, but they manage to see him before he lands. Jumping in shock, they immediately turn to run down a nearby alleyway.

[9 vs 12] Tourmaline is attempting to keep up, but not being used to her fused form quite yet, her awkward form and the thief's speed are keeping them ahead of her. She's still got sight of them, however.

((Dackly was with Fukuhara's group, and they're chasing a thief down Kamogawa now.

Just waiting on Twin's and Adragis' actions.))

15469
Yuri shakes her head.
"No point. There are far too many for us to slay. We would eventually be overwhelmed by sheer numbers.

No, we must destroy those that keep this portal op-"

Suddenly, an explosion ruptures the Stardusts in front of them, knocking the party back. The Pisces Vertex, it seems, is reformed once more, and looms upon the party, looking upon them with its single red orb.

Yuri turns to the party.
"Do not fight against it! It can simply regenerate the damage you deal to it while here! I will attempt to destroy the Vertex that are keeping this portal open, along with anyone who will help! The rest of you, draw its attention away from us!"
Pointing to the bottom of the gash, where a tiny polygonal crystal-like creature seems to be tearing into the barrier, the eternal Hero starts floating towards one of them with her staff.

15470
They finally arrive at the end of the corridor. What lies beyond is....an experience, to say the least.

Beyond, the world as far as the eye can see is fire- hellish, unconquerable flames that rage constantly, seemingly without end, extending as far as the horizon. The skies above, in contrast to the calm greys and purples of the Jukai, are a blood red, with lightning bolts striking at the ground in the distance. There is nothing but the sound of distant thunder and that constant chittering.

In front of them, white, star-like creatures constantly swarm in masses above the infernal ground. They pay no heed to the intruders, and the chittering is constant and sinister. Some are even forming shapes that seem familiar- no, you are certain you know what they are now.

These creatures are forming the shapes of the Vertex they slew. Even the Pisces Vertex, swallowed forevermore, seems to be reforming in the distance. Hikari looks even more horrified.
"What the......is this a.....is this a spawning ground for Vertex?"
"They say that the stars fell when the Vertex arrived. These white creatures, they are called Stardusts.

From them, the Vertex who plague us are constantly formed."

15471
"However, that is all I can tell you. I only have theories, no concrete truths. I apologise.

Get ready. We are near the end of this path."

15472
"Even the Trespassers were of this world, once. The Shinju-sama says that there are many like you, many chosen to fight the Trespasser threat. Even if they will not die from natural means, I believe it is possible to kill them.

Certainly, if the Shinju-sama believes the Hero System needs to be used, then THAT is one tool for it."

15473
((>magically
>she is magik goast))

15474
Yuri smiles.
"Your courage is admirable. If somewhat misplaced."

15475
"All things that exist are mortal, even that which claims not to be. Even the gods are."

15476
"I hardly wish to be like this forever. Only until there is no more need for me to protect mankind and serve the Shinju-sama. If there are other ghosts, I would like to meet them. I hardly ever meet even those who are stranded here.

It is lonely, after all, to be stranded in the eternal forest without any company."

Yuri frowns at the mention of Trespassers.
"You see, there are those of us who can hear the Shinju-sama's voice. Just as those who can fight them are called Heroes, they are called Miko, and those who are both are Messiahs. I am a Messiah, as classed by the Taisha. What I can glean from the voice of the Shinju-sama about the Trespassers is little, but I will attempt to share it with you.

The Trespassers are ancient beings. The Shinju-sama is ancient, older than even your companion here, but the Trespassers.....they have existed for so long that even the existence of a universe seems like a mere second in comparison to their lifespan. They were......sealed away by the gods, once, outside of existence, to be forgotten, to be lost in time.  They wish nothing but destruction and omnicide, and they are willing to do anything to reach that goal. Even manipulate others into becoming their pawns. Even take the forms of others. They will only strike at a world themselves if they know they can destroy it with little resistance.

It does not know how, but the Trespassers were released, almost six hundred years ago.

The gods of this world, most of them were turned against one another by a Trespasser. They were convinced that humanity needed to be purged, that they were deserving of death. And so the wrath of the gods was sent upon us. That was the end of the old world. Fortunately some remained who were uncorrupted, and in their hour of desperation, in our hour of need, they did what they could. Using their very bodies as shields, they formed barriers around as much as they could.

Shikoku Island. A land called Los Angeles. A country called Surrey. The former prefecture of Tokyo. The lands surrounding Kamogawa and Kamogawa itself. Those were what they could save from the wrath of the gods before our world was turned to dust. As for the gods, their bodies formed an impenetrable forest; the Jukai, one that the gods could not pierce through without sacrificing much of their power. Many of the gods formed single conglomerations; that is what we call the Shinju-sama. It is not one, but many.

The creatures you call......Vertex are a creation of the gods, of equal power to the gods themselves and capable of slaying the Shinju-sama where it stands. They are......almost similar to the form of Trespassers. The Hero System was a blessing of the Shinju-sama, designed to slay the Vertex, at least until it could mount a counter-attack against their opponents. I theorise that the Hero System could also slay Trespassers with ease; or at least, those with the System equipped. It is older magic, magic even older than the gods themselves, and so even they do not fully understand it. Nonetheless, it is one of their few tools, as they are devoting all their power to maintaining the Jukai, and they are man's stab at defying the orders of gods.

On the other side of that barrier, the Vertex are always searching for a way in. Expect multitudes of them, and the wrath of the corrupted gods."

ENG, meanwhile, tries to get closer. Unless he gets on the ground though, all he can make out is that they are dressed in a black hoodie and carrying a purple bag.

15477
The chick, for her part, is almost completely oblivious and apathetic to Ian's annoyance.
"You are looking at her. There are a few others, yes. We help to maintain the barrier, both against Vertex and against......oh, what you might refer to as......Trespassers.

As for myself, I remained through my devotion to the Shinju-sama and hanging on through sheer will. At least, that is how I may explain it.

We are to head to the other side and destroy the forces keeping this gash open."

15478
Then we are in agreement, at least, in our response to each other's complaints. I see no further reason to pursue this argument any further.

15479
((She can, if she's up there with ENG.))
Yuri sighs as she floats- yes, floats- next to Alanis.
"I was a Hero, almost a century before, like your companion here. I, too, fought the Vertex, before I was slain in battle allowing my companions to retreat. I miss them, sometimes, and wonder what happened to them; I never found out. It was the last time they ever set foot in the Jukai, possibly out of grief. Again, I will never know.

I, however, was able to live on as an eternal Hero within the barrier, helping to protect it, due to my devotion to the Shinju-sama. I give my assistance to Heroes, and some souls who are lost in the Jukai sometimes, guiding them out or protecting them from the worst damage.

These rifts are those caused by some of the more devious Vertex, who seek the weak spots in the barrier and funnel power into them to create holes through which their larger compatriots can break through. I am capable of shutting them down sometimes, but some break through. That is when the living Heroes must fight.

But, of course, there are other questions, I sense, you might wish to ask. You may ask away."

15480
((plot twist: it was tourmaline all along))
The group steps into the gash and the corridor of fire.

The fire seems to surround the group in a tube, leading down infinitely. Yuri, for her part, is unperturbed.
"Do not be alarmed. The fire will not burn you, and there is an end to this path."

ENG manages to get to a rooftop. Considering it's the rush hour in Kamogawa, there's seemingly no hope-wait.

Perhaps there is. He can see a small shape running through a crowd heading to the shopping district.
