Mordecai, not wishing to leave a bad impression, leaves a great impression by practically obliterating one of the spider-like Fiends with a blast of shadows. Ungoliants, regularly found after Calamities, are among the most common of Fiends; actual Ungoliants are notorious for having venomous fangs and even the capability to spit venom or shoot webs, but it seems that replication of those capabilities was beyond Professors Estelle and Ramsay.

"Great shot, Mordecai! Keep it up!"

Reeve, meanwhile, makes her own entrance. While not nearly as flashy as Mordecai outright obliterating one, it's not bad.

"If there are no further questions, let us begin the test."

Soon, the test area is set back up, the volunteers get back in place, and the Automata are deployed. They look like....well, versions of the Fiends you've studied in classes, made from metal plates bolted together, with stained glass 'eyes', claws made from depleted Alphinite crystals, and an Alphinite crystal inset in their chests functioning as their power source. The Automata get into position around you, as Professors Ramsay and Lucerne leave the test area.

"Class 3-F, your test starts now."

"Yeah, I think that sort of went out of the window when she, as you said, flew up here with a glowing scythe."

"Good job.....I think. And no problem. I....couldn't let you guys fight like that, you know? Not without trying to help. Goddesses, is this really how adventurers live?"
"I'm still shaking...."
"....I'm just thankful that we got here in time to be h-helpful to y-you guys."

1881
"If they survived Tolstoy and Ohlson's Artes, they'll survive yours. Don't worry about it. Go all out."

1882
"Well, then ask her. She's right there."

Unfortunately for 42-1, there is nobody to celebrate his victory. Except for a floating crystal that, presumably, belongs to the people recording the race for the crystal tablets upon which people were watching the race live.

Oh, and what appears to be a single drunk man who's been completely oblivious to the events of the last ten minutes, cheering, whooping and waving around a noisemaker.
"You go, man!"

"Our products are quality! Please, have a look at them! Please be assured we would never scheme or con people, and the insinuation that we would can be taken up with Customer Service!"

[Now Playing: Theme of Anna's Emporiums ~~Vordt of the Boreal Valley~~]

Suddenly, you are keenly aware of the fact that there are far, far more Annas than there were before. An encroaching mass of red-headed merchants appears from the darkness, wielding all manners of weapons, clad in the red, and spouting slogans about bargains, sales and the like; you can't even tell what's being said, with how many are being spouted at once, but the intent is clear; to take as much of your money, as quickly as possible, and to leave you as high and dry as possible. There are far, far too many for the Warriors to fight, even on their best day.

"We should run. Now."
"Agreed."

"Clear a safe path for them by defeating the Fiends closest to them. Once you've cleared a path for them, they'll leave."

Professor Ramsay doesn't say a word when Mordecai and Vicky go to chase his tome, simply waiting patiently for him to get ready.

After everyone has gotten ready, the man leads the group down the winding path without a word. Five minutes later, Class 3-F arrives at the mock village.

The village, of course, resembles some of the more rural villages in northern York, specifically northern Prydain, the island northwest of Erebia and the rest of York, and the same island where Solrise itself is situated. The village is set up with a few mockups of huts, chapels and shops, with some trees dotted here and there. Some metal parts can be seen on the floor, coated in ice or sliced cleanly in half, as if by a hot knife through butter, being swept up by volunteers in rural farmer garb. The mock village looks incredibly realistic, and perfect, as if the buildings and walls had been crafted from clay, and moulded into the appearance of the various materials comprising the structures.

"Professor Verver's work. This only took her all of five minutes."

With his gruff tone, it's hard to tell if he's impressed, casual or something else as he guides the group to a small square in the middle of thev illage. A tall Andvar woman in armor is resting on a wall nearby, calmly scribbling things down on a clipboard of her own. Professor Ramsay gestures to her briefly.
"3-F, Gabriela Lucerne. She's joining my department and will be assisting me in running the forge. She will be shadowing me today to see how we conduct classes."
"A pleasure to meet you all. Please ignore me. I'm just here to watch, nothing more."
"I'll keep this short. Your mission is to rescue the villagers from the Fiend Automata myself and Professor Estelle have created. These Fiends are rigged to back off if you are injured, but make no mistake, they are no less dangerous than the real article, and just as vulnerable to your Artes and Arcana as the real thing. You will be graded on how many of the villagers you have saved within the time you are given, as well as how many of the Fiends you defeat. Your mission will be completed upon either the passage of half an hour or upon the rescue of all villagers, NOT upon the defeat of all Fiends. Do you have any questions?"

Moira seems satisfied with Kruger not having a word to say.
"I see I've struck our distinguished competition speechless. As expected, never a word towards his superiors, but always something to say to those beneath him, hm?"
As Reeve speaks, Moira simply gives her a haughty look.
"I expect nothing less from someone claiming to be the heiress to the Polyions. Live up to your claims or burn out trying."
Steven quietly sighs, subtly moving to block Moira.
"We should not keep Professor Ramsay waiting. He is heading up the path now to escort you. I wish you the best of luck. Kaya, perhaps we could meet up afterwards?"
"You bet!"
Steven nods, before signalling the class to continue following him. Moira simply looks over the group one more time, an imperious smile on her face, before she follows them. Elma hangs back a moment.
"Firstly, don't mind her. She's always got a stick up you-know-where. Secondly, when you guys pass, you're welcome to join us for drinks at the hall. My treat!"

With that, she skips off behind Class 3-A.

A short while after, the imposing, humongous figure of Professor Ramsay strolls down the path. His armor clanks and groans as he moves. He grasps a clipboard in his right hand, looking comically small to his Andvarian frame. He surveys Class 3-F with a gruff grunt, nodding ever so subtly to Lin; the young Belgor was someone he'd noticed in his Blacksmithing classes for her dedication to his favored subject.
"Class 3-F. Get your equipment and follow me."

1887
"Are you sure you adventurers don't need something? We offer adventuring insurance on all our weapons for the low price of nine hundred rhea!"

1888
"I see, Wallhaim."
Steven has but a hint of doubt before turning to Cattleya.
"Chatgeant, you have no reason to worry. I have seen your swordwork before. You have my highest respect."

1889
A blast of lightning, followed by the deep rumble of thunder, silences everything else at the village.

Suddenly, a sharp, loud blast of a whistle cuts through the noise, and the class is keenly aware that there is now silence at the mock village. Professor Ramsay's voice can be heard at the village. Despite his voice being faint, you can tell he's giving them their grade for the test. Judging from the subsequent loud yelps (presumably Per), it sounds like they passed with flying colors and then some. A few minutes later, you see Class 3-A walking up the winding path to the test village, Steven at the head leading with his walking stick.

"Well done, my comrades. That battle was heated, but we did well. It brought palpitations to my heart."
"Don't sweat it, Steven. Never had a doubt you'd get us through for a second!"
"As expected, the power of darkness overwhelming triumphs once more over even those simulacra of Fiends. Though Per's thunderbolts pierced even their shroud of shadows."
"Hey, don't thank me! Thank Kat here. She set me up for the win."
"....right."

The gaggle at the front is suddenly interrupted, as one of the group storms forward.
"I think we're forgetting my contribution? A Faulkner never fails to amaze."
Tobias visibly rolls his eyes, but Steven simply nods.
"You did well, Moira, but do not forget the contributions of others."
"My brilliance always proves to shine out, as always."

She spies Kruger, a haughty expression on her face, as she looks between him and Arnett, before back to him.
"I see Wallhaim has, as per usual, shown his great charisma and excellent talent for leadership."
"Like you have, sure."

"Hey, Steven! I'm guessing you guys passed, right?"
Kaya, it seems, is very happy to see her friend. The slightest hint of a smile crosses Steven's face.
"Kaya. Yes, we passed. As I am sure you will. I assume your group is ready?"

1890
"We don't take trade-ins at our mobile stores, but we do take credit."
She advances towards you, seemingly uncaring of the fact that you're a bunch of heavily armed warriors.
