1891
The footsteps get closer and closer to the group. You can feel an intense sense of dread wash over, as if what was coming was unnatural, not belonging in this world or any you knew of.

A single woman, clad in red, steps out from the shadows.
"Hi! I'm Anna, of Anna's Emporiums! Our prices are to die for! Would you like to buy some of our wares?"

1892
"Oh, don't be a killjoy, Wallhaim, it's just a bit of fun! Thanks a bunch, by the way. Six of Cups, huh? Doesn't that mean something like....joy?"
Kaya flashes Mus'ad a smile as she hands back her card.

1893
"...I honestly don't MPMH you even know what direction I am looking at, but I am sure MPHM  heard me questioning how the Deceiver MPMH is with us."
"And MPMH things suggest it might be Milly. Pretty MMPHM saw her floating with the scythe, and Mammon's MPMH when she showed up. Unless you were distracted MPMH something else that wasn't the flying ship MPMH showing up."
"I was kinda distracted by the Demon General showing up. Given uh.....you know, I beat his wife up."
"....that sounds even worse than it did in my head."

1894
"Oh, do mine, do mine!"
Kaya sidles up to Mus'ad, looking intrigued.

Without warning, the men accompanying Owyn scream, as if they had seen what was coming, and begin running off in the direction the Warriors came.
"Hey! Where're ya goin'?! Tram's this way! Come back!"

The footsteps get closer. They sound as if they're half a block away.

"We should keep moving. If a bunch of big burly football fans are running away from whatever's coming, I don't wanna be around to see it."

1896
Suddenly, the Warriors (and Owyn) hear the sounds of footsteps. Not close, but in the vicinity. At least a block over or two, the kinds of noises that would be drowned out during the day's hustle and bustle, but late at night, with nary a soul in the city, plain for anyone to hear.

1897
"You guys believe in that kinda stuff? That stuff only happens in radio dramas and novels. Besides, if it was a dragon, we could probably take it."

1898
"Don't sweat it, you guys. I believe in us! We got this. It's not like they got a dragon in there or something, right?"

1899
"Uh-huh. I've worked concerts before, as a gopher, but that was something else...."

1900
"It's real sunny, but.....it's a shame. I'll have to make it rain to make any real use of my ability..."

1901
"Well, there's apparently supposed to be big incentives for getting a good grade on the exam. Cash prizes, apparently."

1902
"Don't worry about it, Arnett. We'll figure out how to do it."

1903
Rosencrantz simply looks between both Jarvis and Momo.
"....you two have been giving Milly weird looks for the last five minutes. What gives?"

1904
Nico visibly cringes at the dad jokes.
"Sorry, Xerxe, I didn't know you and my dad shared notes on making jokes. Good grief."

Prologue: Blue Skies and a Battle

Third-year students at Solrise Academy are the cream of the crop. Having survived three years of rigorous education at the the Academy, honing both their minds and their bodies, the third year students are often prepared for actual combat with Fiends or deployment into Calamity zones after two years of drilling and preparing for it. The final test marking the readiness of a class is traditionally held on the shore of Lake Aubray, with a mock village set up to test the adaptability and combat skills of students before facing facsimilies of real Fiends that are no less dangerous than those which they mimic. Passing this test is essential to advance in Solrise Academy; failure is punished by having to repeat the test until the class passes. Only one class has ever failed to pass the test today, by virtue of having found to have sabotaged the Automata used to run the test.

This year is fairly small, owing to a cheating scandal last year taking out most of who would have been Class 3-G, and so there will only be three tests today. Class 3-A are busy finishing their test, and Class 3-C are due to be tested later in the afternoon. Class 3-F has now come to prepare for their test, waiting just outside of the mock village, hoping that the last two or three years have prepared them for their first real brush with action.

It's about ten thirty in the morning.

The sun shines, its light glinting brightly off the surface of Lake Aubray. Behind you, the deep bell in Forester's Tower tolls, signalling that half an hour has passed, the distant sounds of students milling about during their free periods being drowned out. A rope fence keeps you cordoned off about five minutes' walk from the test village, where you can hear the distant shouts of Class 3-A doing their test, the occasional gust of snowy wind or blast of lightning being visible, or the blast of a mighty, deep horn being heard. None of the teachers are nearby, not that they need to be; you are adults, trustworthy enough to not need to be babysat, and in any case you're fully aware that Professor Ramsay is nearby. The man is strict and suffers fools poorly, though you remember he has somewhat of a soft spot for those who perform well in his Blacksmithing class.

Kaya stretches her arms, yawning. Her eyes are fixed on the village, hoping to catch a glimpse of her friend.
"So, how do you all think they're doing over there?"
