Why would we hold a trial? It just kills us off faster, after all. And runs the risk of getting everyone killed. For that matter, if, like Monobadger said, the wrong person is accused, and everyone dies... Well, it sounds like the murderer does too.

The murderer doesn't die if everyone gets it wrong, and the murderer gets to go home free; Monobadger and the rules themselves state this. There's your incentive to murder.

As to trial? If you don't, the murderer gets to kill more of you anyway. The trial forces you all to stick in one place, where nobody gets murdered without being in plain sight of everyone. At least with the trial, you have a chance of stopping the murderer without being a potential murderer yourself.

And as everyone says, wouldn't be any fun for Monobadger.

"Hm. You are....far less antagonistic than I expected, but perhaps I may be wrong, or perhaps I have just had worse charges."

Unlike Rise she's not currently retired.
Just not full-time.

Helps that unlike Rise, she can conduct her business out of her bedroom, basically.

Rosa swallows her mouthful before speaking, a somewhat thoughtful expression on her face.
"'s confusing. I can see what Larissa sees, feel what she feels, and hear what she hears, but I can't smell or taste for some reason." She grimaces. "It's not really too pleasant eating without taste, to be honest."

"I know the feeling."

Rosa accepts it, eyes glinting with hungry anticipation.
She opens it and without further ado begins to eat. Oddly enough, she's far more dignified than Larissa when eating, about as polite and elegant as one can get eating a packed lunch, at least.

And just as always, his food tastes amazing.

"Hey, Yuri. Can I have one of those lunches?"
There's a brief pause, then an even briefer 'please'.

Celia retrieves a Kindle from her backpack, sits down heavily, and sighs contentedly, reveling in the feelings of stability and non-twitchiness.

He passes her one with a smile.
"Of course, Miss Heller."
