Or this.Background: Iris was an immigrant from Langen from a young age with her mech builder parents. She herself had an aptitude for the science of mechs and so it was no surprise that she spent most of her free time- which was a lot, considering that despite no fault of her own, she was viewed with suspicion for being Langanese- working on old pieces of mechs and seeing if she could repair them to working states- before beginning to familiarise herself with how they worked, how one piloted them, and so forth. It was then less of a surprise that she ended up working in the mech building factories of Terralba, working on mecha while hoping that one day, her designs for a new sort of mecha might be taken into consideration and built throughout Terralba.
When the Great War broke out, mech pilots were needed, and Iris, with her experience with the inside of mechs like the back of her hand, seemed a perfect candidate. True, she was inexperienced in combat piloting, but that could easily be rectified.
