The blade is small, and used only for this." She holds the bird up, the carving quite well made if needing a tiny bit more sanding before painting.Rin examines it for a couple of moments.

My grandfather, before he passed away, you see...he always told me his principles. He lived by principles that he had built up for his lifetime, some that I chose to live by myself. One principle he lived by, a principle I choose to live by, is that to cause another man despair is to lose one part of oneself. I had to ask him what he meant.
He told me that once, he knew a pair of neighbours who once tolerated, but now hated each other, and so one man would always stick tacks in the other's food, and the other would set bees on the former.
Causing pain in retribution to pain only caused the other to cause more, in the hope that one would never attempt it again. Consumed by the desperation to return the affront, both were eventually consumed only by the desire for revenge. They lost everything else, in an attempt to 'balance' out the pain they suffered. It never really balanced out, of course- one man would always increase the pain he gave to make it seem as if all was balanced.
