Bertholt simply gives Brock and Martyn a lifted eyebrow when they imply priests aren't at all helpful or willing to be in the cause.
"And we ill need another failed attempt at gathering the manpower that we desperately need and yet cannot afford.

None of us here have the power to convince any nation to help us, not politically, not unless the others have some connection with the remaining states we have yet to visit. We have barely any money, so an entire army of mercenaries is out of the question, not unless we're willing to attempt to convince them that we will pay them after the war, the outcome of which is still unknown. And we cannot return to Izzarra mostly empty-handed; then we will have done a disservice to those who died in the service of its liberation. We must take what we can, not what we wish we had. If we took Viterine's help, then we can take Rheane's.

If we cannot rouse the spirits of Izzarra with the hope of an incoming army for the moment, perhaps the promise of some relief may help soothe the spirit, return some hope to its people, and alleviate the burden the Mordoans are likely putting on them. That hope is not coming from anywhere else, and too long have those who lived in the land of Rhea and revere Rhea the most remained idle while Rhea's flock suffers elsewhere. This must change.

As for the likely diplomatic consequences of the Mordoans assailing these holy men seeking nothing but to heal the innocent? They either risk it, and bring down the ire of Rheane and those nations that still hold faith in Rhea, and perhaps bring the manpower you seek, or do not, and we can perhaps rouse the rebellious spirit of Izzarra from within, and inspire the people to return Izzarra to its former glory."

"It will not be to your liking, Martyn, but I propose we seek help from my fellows, men of the cloth. Unlike mercenaries or national armies, they need only convincing that it would be Rhea's will that they help out in Izzarra. We're not likely to get large groups of monks willing to abandon their monasteries, but those like myself, who see a cause in Izzarra's suffering, they might be swayed."

"Well, yeah, but it's impossible that EVERYTHING's true just because magic exists, right?"

3679
Bernie blinks, looking down at Scarlet. She carefully extricates herself from the situation, frowning.
"Oh! Sorry, are you okay? I didn't see you there."

3680
Bernie, for her part, is looking for Idunna, or any other of the girls, to talk to. If nothing else, she wanted to know if they were likely going to go help with the rescue efforts.

"....perhaps it might be prudent to drop by my homeland. We won't be getting military help, not by any means, but no country, as far as I'm aware, on its own has a force willing or able to single-handedly overturn Mordo's occupation. If you would hear me out, of course. In any case, if we are heading to Chilcenne, Rheane shares a border and so it would be no large effort to cross into Chilcenne through Rheane, as Roux and I can attest to."
He gives Roux a knowing look.

"Hold on a second. How are we so sure Qun will be useful? Mercenaries must be paid, and unless I'm mistaken, we're hardly aflush with funds to pay them with. We can scarce afford to keep ourselves afloat and keep Liam paid, let alone paying an entire force of mercenaries big enough to invade Izzarra."

3683
"Alright. Is that it?"

3684
"Alright. Is there anything you need me to do? Do I need to follow up on this?"

3685
"......I see. What about the Mizushimas? Do they know what happened to their miraculously resurrected son?"

3686
"What do we know about the sister? How many other identities can we tie to this Aramitama?"

Minato barely took one, maybe two, looks at the message before tossing it in the trash and thanking the servant who presented it to him. This wasn't an irregular occurrence; people assumed Minato lived to fight, but he wasn't enamoured with fighting so much as it was protecting people. It just so happened that Minato was a good fighter, and that, most of the time, fighting was the best way to protect them.

For all that Minato loved the idea of being a medieval knight and the image of chivalry, some aspects of it he'd never understand, this included. He understood sparring, but duels were useless to Minato; what did Minato have to prove to these fools? He was busy saving people's lives and ensuring the safety of Sendo; his pride wasn't that easy to wound that he had to protect it from every Tom, Dick and Harry that asked him for a fight. That was something Karen would do. Also, what was happening with Faith still had him pretty ringed out. There was something about her life, something about her past, that was bothering him. He had to leave it for the moment, though; she wasn't willing to talk, not yet.

This concerned Minato. This wasn't a threat he could fight, not physically, at any rate. Those were the threats that concerned Minato the most; not the physical ones to his friends. Those, he could fight, he could make go away. They were easy.

The ones that scared him were the demons that came to them and them alone. Noriko's past, Faith's past, possibly Yuki's. Those weren't monsters he could fight to make them go away, not easily, not the way Minato was accustomed to. He was a fighter, a tenacious one at that, but horrible parents or depression weren't something even the most powerful Regalia could make disappear.

No. He wasn't going to think about this right now. For the moment. He hadn't heard from Noriko in a while either, so he resolved to talk to her, after he was finished with something else intriguing, something that might come to bite them all in the backside.

Next to his finished homework, he had the obituary of Hideki Mizushima out, and he was rereading it.

"I see. I'll not press you for more information, but if ever you want to talk about it....I'm here, alright?"
