"I'm being dead serious. My guess is, they detect levels of gayness. Not that I can tell out here, not without an intact device or a willing volunteer."

3857
"I'll make it quick; not that I can go into much detail, given what I have left to work with. The trains are just a bunch of enchanted metal. The cannons you saw earlier were carved into them; the whole thing only remotely worked because of Heaven's Draft. A few of 'em had bays for the enemies, attached using cables to keep them powered and increase their output. The lasers are less of a hackjob; they're well made, but they've got a whole different system for the radar, which I'll get to last.

You guys remember the things you fought earlier, the corpses you brought back for me? They're getting better at making them. Non-ablative armor, a slapdash job, but decent given they seem to have been in a hurry. Missiles? Pretty much shaped impact charges, propelled by magic, probably guided by an external unit. They've got fail-safes, to keep them from exploding or flying if they lose signal, probably to keep them blowing up in transport or something.

As for the radars? I kept them for last because.....well, there's no real easy way to say it.

It's a gaydar.

It senses just how gay you are. The gayer you are, the more likely it'll target you. Might be wrong, it's not easy to tell what these things are supposed to sense, especially given I don't have either a working sample or better tools, but given what Enn and Winter are telling me, I'm going with the most likely.

Ai
Ursula tilts her head, studying Ai's face closely, thinking carefully. You feel as if she might be seeing right through you, knowing what you were doing. The silence is just uncomfortably long enough before Ursula speaks again, satsified.

"Ah. Excuse my interruption, then. I just assumed you were. My mistake."
"I need to discuss something with you in private, i-if you wouldn't mind. My office?"
"No problem. Please, lead the way, Mister Matou."

Ursula and the administrator seem to be walking away. You feel as if there's more to be gleaned from this conversation, if you could only either stop them from leaving or follow them without being detected.

Ragnar
Ragnar slowly, then quickly, makes his way towards the room the nurse and soldiers just left, fully expecting the nurse to turn around, to stop him too-

Nope. They seem to be preoccupied with the soldiers, it seems. They haven't even noticed Ragnar turn into the room behind them, judging by their hurried chatter fading quickly down the corridor.

As for Ragnar, he's now being stared at by a young girl, probably about his age, give or take a few months, in faded green clothing, lying in bed with an IV drip attached to her wrist. Her eyes are slightly wide with curiosity as she studies Ragnar suspiciously.

".....you're not with them, are you?"

Better explain yourself quickly.
Ito
Ito very quickly finds such a map on the nearest wall, color-coded. There's about six floors to the place. The ground floor, where Ito is, has, in addition to a cafeteria, waiting room and walk-in clinic, the emergency room and trauma wing, along with one of apparently four long-term specialty wards, one which you remember Ragnar having walked into. The place doesn't seem to be created according to any geomantic principles except the geomantic principle of convenience.

So it's likely a ward or some sort of natural phenomenon. The question is, which one is it?

Maki, Haruko and Amelie
Haruko decides to go intercept Naomi, running towards her and waving. Naomi tilts her head, looking curious.
"Uh....Haruko, right? Hey! Um....oh, you're here with Maki, too, huh? You heard already?"

Meanwhile, Maki is nudged by Amelie, the blonde girl snapping out of a fugue while staring at an odd panel on the outside wall.
"Huh, what?"
She turns, to see Naomi and Haruko talking some distance away.
".....huh? What's Naomi doing here all the way from Seito?"

Sato and Agatha
You two decide to check the shiny thing, heading towards the bush. It's a relatively small, not-quite thorny bush, so you're able to move the branches out of the way to see what it is.

It seems to be a blue orb comprised of some sort of translucent, glowing energy, motes of light flickering in and out of existence around it. It floats ever so slightly off the ground, seeming to bob gently where it is.

Do you two know what that is? I followed some odd energy signature here, thinking it might be a Zoanthrope, and it led....here.
Seems Lapis has joined you, for now. The blue creature is swishing their tail, a blank-eyed stare at the blue orb.
Maybe you should take it, try to figure out what it is.

I'm up for it if Sword is.

Theo walks away also, nodding to himself quietly. He composes himself for a moment, returning his usual smirk to his face, adjusting his collar.

Rune had taken it harder, harder than anyone else here would. Theo wasn't sure why, not yet. Maybe she wasn't used to it. Maybe these were her people. Maybe there was something he hadn't considered. He sighs, rubbing the back of his head, looking around for a moment. He had participated in the research of the tomes, the tomes that had destroyed Tselino, the tomes he and the others had to recover. He knew how theoretically destructive they could be; that's why the sheer scale of destruction in Tselino hadn't come as a surprise to him. He knew exactly how they worked, after all; he'd spent years aiding the research effort.

But it did unnerve him. So many people, dead. So many people, just gone. He wondered how nobody else had even needed a moment to process what they were seeing, aside Rune. He wondered how he didn't, until he remembered for a moment.

A man of his talents was unfazed by such meagre efforts. A man of his talents wasn't intimidated by these pretenders.

At least, he was supposed to be.

Breathing in deeply, he heads off to find Jack and then the others. Time to reconvene. Hopefully, they'd be on their way to recapture Joi Hart, before this got worse.

"You underestimate the appetite of hungry priests. There is a reason some of the abbesses of my priory were a little on the plump side."
Bertholt takes Roux's bowl and manages to make inhaling the contents of a whole bowl look elegant.

3862
"My, my. I'll just have to take my share too, then."
Roux finds that an equally large scoop of hers is also missing as Bert takes a scoop of hers.
"An army marches on its stomach and all."

3863
Bertholt simply chuckles as he takes up a bowl and some food himself next to Roux.
"Knowing you, I ought to, before you take the whole thing for yourself."

"....you couldn't have known that would happen. You shouldn't feel responsible for her loss. Her grief was not your fault."

Theo's smug grin, as Rune can clearly see, is completely absent, replaced by a look of....is that concern? Awkwardness? Pensiveness? Certainly the tone of his voice seems a little less confident, a little more awkward, a little lost, as if he's not quite sure what to say. This certainly isn't the Theo you've grown used to, though you've seen glimpses already.

"I can't know if that's what you wanted to hear, but that is how it is. Don't blame yourself for what our enemies did. I followed you because I felt.....you should know that. It won't come to you as comfort, even if I'd hoped it would, but it's better than nothing. I'll leave you be. If you need a sympathetic ear....a man of my talents can spare a few moments."

After that, Theo nods at Rune, lost, like an actor trying to remember his forgotten script on the night of the performance, and slowly turns away to leave her be. Even his requisite "man of my talents" is rather half-hearted, as if it were an affectation he were putting on, to remind himself of his role.

Theo's eyes follow Rune as she leaves the crowd. He briefly decides whether or not to leave her to it, or to follow her and see what was up. On one hand, there was still potentially something valuable that the crowd hadn't spoken about, but if they had little contact with the outside world aside from bandits, it'd be hard to see what intel they could offer. In any case, this was a bust; aside from the talk of bandits raiding their village by both the villagers and the shopkeeper, these people, as far as Theo could tell, had nothing to do with them or their mission and just had the misfortune of being in their way.

On the other hand, he owed Rune, and even someone of Theo's ego knew he had to make it back up to her somehow.

He silently and deftly follows her away, keeping at a distance just in case. If she shook him, he'd leave and go rejoin the group, possibly inquire something of Jack; if she didn't, Theo wasn't quite sure what he'd do.

3866
Tsukasa walks over to the rest of the group, looking around them.
"Uh. Right. I had a look at the trains and the bodies, aaaaand you're probably not going to want to hear what I have to say, some of you. I made do with what I could bring here; I'd tell you more if we were in my apartment."

3867
"Yeah? Well, after your fourth or so superweapon, you kinda learn to relax a little, have some fun. You have a job to do, it won't do you good to stress out about it. And besides, these things might've been superweapons, but you obliterated them pretty handily. So handily it's going to take me a bit to actually figure out WHAT these things are, especially without my lab equipment. Give me a minute."
Tsukasa grunts as she crouches by one of the destroyed carriages and begins her analysis, rooting around in her bag for various gadgets and doodads.

Minato shrugs at Tsukasa's comment.
"She's got a point. This isn't even remotely the first superweapon I've had to help trash. It loses the edge a little once you run into the third chemical weapons lab disguised as a host club. It gets a little easier, once you know what to expect."

3868
Minato looks over at Noriko. The argument they had was still lingering in his memory, and Minato felt far guiltier about it than he'd honestly felt comfortable acknowledging. But then, guilt wasn't exactly comfortable to acknowledge, was it?
"I'll just be a second, Faith."
He looks over at Faith to check her for a moment, make sure she was okay, before strolling over to his friend. It wasn't enough to make up for years of not asking, but Minato had to try, at least.
"Hey, Noriko. You holding up alright? You were in the thick of that fight, thought you might've taken a few scratches."

3869
Karen, for the most part, is seething in the background, hate almost coalescing off of her. Towards what, it's not quite clear if it's Yoake, their fallen foes, Noriko or anything in particular, but it's almost palpable.

3870
Ai
Ai manages to blend in well enough, sitting on a nearby bench, looking for all the world like she was waiting for a check-up, or waiting to visit a friend, perhaps. Casually, she begins to listen in on the conversation.

"Ah, yes, the attacks last night. We attempted to mobilize as quick as possible, but our forces, I'm afraid, are not quite as entrenched in the region as I'd like them to be. We're too spread thin. I've requested that my subordinates in Sendai send more forces down to Minatodai, but they won't arrive for another week until the region is completely secure. The recent Zoanthrope attack on Sendai has made matters problematic in regards to deployment. You have my deepest apologies."
"Miss Richards, if I may, my primary concern is for the patients of this hospital. It's a risky enough profession without Zoanthrope attacks directly on here. Might I request at least a small unit to be based at the hospital directly?"
"I'll see what I can do, Mister Matou. I may be able to pull some men from the Seito patrol to protect the hospital until further notice, but I cannot promise too much too soon. Is there anything else I can help you with?"
"....no, thank you. That is....all the reassurance I need. Thank you. I'm surprised you came down here, I must say. Don't you have more important things to be concerned with?"
"As the head of the Eden Foundation, my concern lies with protecting the citizens of Japan from further attacks by the Zoanthropes. I'm aware of the work you conduct at this hospital, especially for children. It's my duty to ensure that neither you, nor your staff and patients face harm. I must apologise again, for last night's disturbance. I will do everything in my power to ensure it doesn't happen again."

Ai notes that the man is holding something back. Very subtly, very quietly, he's held something back from Ursula. It's something in his eyes, something in his gait. But what could it be?

"Ah. Are you here to speak with me also?"

Ai suddenly notes that Ursula's eyes aren't on the hospital administrator anymore, but on her instead. The lady studies her with a calm almost-smile, waiting for her to respond.

Ragnar
Splitting off from the others, Ragnar decides to follow the Eden soldiers, in order to see if they're looking for something. As he follows a pair of random soldiers heading down a corridor, Ragnar seems too focused to notice the cleaning cart heading down the corridor intersecting this one. Though he doesn't get hit, Ragnar manages to step back just in time to bump off a bottle of window cleaner and earn an earful from the janitor. As the janitor picks up the bottle, glaring at Ragnar as he pushes the cart away, Ragnar continues down to where he saw the soldiers walk, having seen them turn left into a different room, only to overhear something.

"Sir, you're disturbing the patient! Please leave!"
"We're here looking for anything to do with that Zoanthrope attack last night. We'll just be a minute."
"Y-you can't be in here!"
"He's right, we can't be in here. Let's just check one of the empty rooms, alright?"

A scoff and an irritated huff later, two uniformed soldiers are ushered out by a male nurse, a harried expression across his face as he quickly pushes them down the corridor. It's up to Ragnar if he wants to continue following them or to see what was in the room they just left.

Ito
The Makai Knight, meanwhile, has a poke around the place. Not following Ragnar, not listening to the conversation, he focuses on seeing what his Madou Ring can find, looking for magical signatures while Ito focuses on anything obvious to the naked eye.

To a mundane observer, nothing out of the ordinary. No secret latches, no hinges behind things, no vending machines that might be concealing doors. This place is as you might expect a hospital to be.

To the ring, however, the world looks fairly different.

Magic. Magic was everywhere in Touto. Everywhere in the city. The place is full of it. Perhaps because a load of magical girls lived here, or maybe because the whole city's on a leyline; however it got this way, magic is everywhere here.

However, the ring's capable of focusing it down, paring it down to just the hospital, just what needs to be scanned. And what he finds is.....nothing.

Not some sort of gap, some sort of vacuum as if there were nothing here. No, there's something here, but something else, something artificial, is interfering, preventing you from seeing it clearly, like magical static, making any conclusive reading here difficult if not impossible to get.

The mere existence of interference proves someone is hiding something here. The question is what, and the other question is how they're stopping you from seeing a damn thing.

Maki, Haruko and Amelie
You three head left, helping Maki search for anything that the Zoanthrope might have left behind; some scales, some lenses, anything. Of course, it wasn't exactly one of those cartoon birds that molts everywhere, nor was it really dropping anything but heated air directly on your exposed faces. And of course, there's nothing on the walls that suggests a hidden passage; no pressure plates, no oddly-hard soil, no plastic, no weirdly-placed edges in the wall, though there might be a few false windows that you might have to go in and check later but you suspect are probably real windows, just shuttered. Maki seems a little frustrated by now.

"Okay. I'll check by this bush. Can you guys watch my back, make sure nobody's looking for us? We'll look suspicious if someone catches us."

Almost as soon as Maki turns around to search, however, a girl rounds the corner on the end of the parking lot. You can make out enough of her to see; it's that girl from a couple of days ago, Naomi, one of Maki's friends. She said she lived in Seito, too; not too far from Touto, but it's enough of an oddity to ask questions about. Do you go up to her and ask how she is or do you tell Maki?

Sato and Agatha
You two decide to stay put, searching around the entrance area. After all, the Zoanthrope fell around here, so it's likely that there's something here, something hidden. Sato takes the subtle approach, poking at things, a lamppost here, a fake-looking car there. Nada, zilch, nothing. The blade, as far as you can tell, hasn't really found much either, though the hospital seems far fuzzier than it really ought to be.

As for Agatha? She almost immediately contacts the sewage system underground with her poking around. Well, that's going to be problematic; with these many sewage pipes in the area, you might not be able to find what you're looking for underground. On the plus side, if there is something with the hospital, it'll be under the hospital proper and not in the parking lot; too many pipes to build around, unless they exit through the sewer.

And then something catches both of your eyes. A faintly glowing mote of light, somewhere in a bush, towards the edge of the lot. It might be nothing, might just be a trick of the light, but it might be something worth checking out.
