If the dragon doesn't attack yet, Elizabeth and Carrick move backwards and ready an attack. Miaka is still defiant.
If it does attack:
Elizabeth forms a shield of spirit fire to protect her allies from the dragon's attacks, reducing the damage taken by everyone for three turns.
Carrick summons an Prideful Wraith and a Delirious Wraith. The Prideful Wraith uses Avaricious Omen on the dragon, while the Delirious Wraith uses Manic Possession to insert itself into the dragon's mind to damage it for three turns.
Miaka readies a cyclone to blast at the dragon.
If it does attack:

Carrick places himself between Miaka and the dragon. As does Elizabeth.
"Leave this place, dragon of the shadows. We will not allow you to harm anymore. Your harvesting of souls has disrupted the land, and the land is not......pleased."
Indeed, his allies and the dragon might be seeing the wisps of ghosts moving around and between them, centered on Carrick; or rather, his lantern.
Miaka stands defiantly, her initial surprise gone.
"Nonsense! I am sure we can talk this out."

Carrick studies the dragon closely. He prepares to summon an Avaritious Wraith should the dragon attack.
Elizabeth hovers next to him. Though she can't actually die, of course, she's still scared of a giant honking dragon.

Let's see if I can get everything right here. I know I'm wrong, all I'm doing is poking fun right now.
We have Yorick, Blake, Celty, Nia, Tiny and a bunch of other guys going off to fight a dragon that may or may not be Smaug. Also featured is a Tonberry.

Cheru, meanwhile, grabs some special ointment from his bag. He then goes out of the house to slather the walls in it.
This ointment would turn away fire, even dragonfire, for at least a day, before it dried. He COULD have slathered his allies in it, but the substance, for one reason or another, was toxic to most living things if used like he was using it for the walls.
