Name: Maki Kisaragi / Kamen Rider Volt
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Appearance:
Maki is of average build and under-average height for her age, standing about 5'4". Her eyes are a light blue and her long blonde hair reaches down to her back, let loose for the most part with the exception of being brushed out the way of her face. Her preferred attire consists of white billowy shirts, black tights and canvas shoes, sometimes with a pair of large sunglasses to complete the look. She can usually be found with earphones in, listening to music, when not hanging out with friends. When Maki needs to transform, her transformation belt, the Electrider, appears on her waist; a gunmetal-coloured belt with a clear eight-pronged star in the middle made of clear material. When transforming, the star sparks with electricity as it generates the sufficient power to activate the Volt Armor.
Transformation Sequence: Maki lowers her hand over her waist to summon the Electrider. Electricity sparks between her hand and the Electrider, causing the Electrider to spark with electricity. Maki's whole body surges with electricity and is coated in lightning as the Volt Armor forms around her body, before dissipating with a sweep of Maki's arm as she emerges completely transformed, her armor sparking with residual electricity. As a final flourish, Maki points at whoever is about to receive a beatdown courtesy of her, telling them to 'count up their crimes'.
Volt: Maki's entire body is covered in a flexible, durable black material as the undersuit, with dark blue lines running throughout the suit towards her belt and her chest. Her hands and feet are protected by grey metal gauntlets; the gauntlets contain conductive coils allowing Maki to charge her attacks with electricity. Her torso is protected by a firm yet light, red chestplate made of segmented metal, with what appears to be a portable reactor of some sort mounted in the middle that constantly pulses with bright light and sparks with current. Finally, her face is concealed by a black helmet with a grey mouthpiece and two green compound eyes. A two-pronged horn sticks out from the middle of the helmet, reminiscent of a rhinoceros beetle's horn, and a white scarf is wrapped around Maki's neck in this form; an addition she made rather than was native to the armor itself.
Personality: Maki is at times easy-going and energetic, tending towards the latter more than the former. She is rather friendly either way, naturally looking for people to talk to. Though she has no particular hate for the rules, she has no special love for them either, and will not hesitate to break them at the sign of a wrongdoing. Maki is also naturally curious, always wishing to follow up interesting things with a closer look. Though not unintelligent, she prefers to spend time with a good friend or wandering around rather than with a book or in a lesson, and seems more concerned with the world around her than the world of academia. She is rather honest, and loyal to those she holds as friends. Maki combines a sense of justice with a desire to show off; she will fight villains who hurt the innocent, but she won't deny having fun and playing around with the enemy while doing so. Fittingly enough, Maki is also a fan of other "real life" superheroes such as Kamen Rider Astra and Beat Fighter Sonata.
Background: Maki Kisaragi, in most ways, was a normal child. Born to Touma Kisaragi, an aspiring marine biologist, and Wakaba Yukino, a nurse who had helped treat him after an accident at sea, Maki was, for the first four years of her life, raised by loving parents who wanted the best for her. They were among those who saw the allure of the new Special Administrative District of Minatodai, taking government incentives to move from Tokyo to Touto; Touma to seek work out on the coast where his specialties lay, and Wakaba to continue caring for people in what was likely going to be a fast-growing populace. The young Maki was thus carried with them to Touto to start a new life; Maki would be one of the first generations of children to say they were citizens of the Minatodai area, rather than having moved in after they had grown up.
Sadly, that new life was to be cut short, for four years after Maki's birth, a car crash took the lives of the Kisaragi parents, leaving Maki alone. Fortunately for the orphaned girl, Hayato Kisaragi, her grandfather and the owner of a steakhouse in Touto, took her in to take care of her. Hayato valued Maki greatly and cared for her as he had his son, Maki being the last remnant he had of his family. He raised her into a fine young woman, teaching her with good morals, though noticeably and constantly emphasising that Maki should always go to the police when she saw danger rather than simply interfering herself. The notion of letting an injustice go unpunished to run away was something problematic for Maki, who was something of a firebrand. Hayato also encouraged his granddaughter to pursue her talents, paying for violin lessons when she turned out to be talented with it. Though she had a good life, Maki always yearned for something beyond being simply a violinist, though nothing seemed to quite do the trick.
However, Hayato's notion of a quiet life for his granddaughter was utterly dashed when an organisation called Destron assailed a convention Maki was attending out of curiosity. Seeking some way out of the fight, Maki spied what she came to find out was the Electrider (and mistook for a belt with technological gadgetry like the other inventions on display) and put it on, in her desperation thinking it would give her some sort of exit path. The Electrider was a salvaged transformation device, made from the clash between magic and technology that Destron utilised, having been retrieved officially during a government raid of Destron laboratories, and unofficially by the urban legend/superhero Kamen Rider Astra. Maki was instead transformed for the first time into a hero. Given new superpowers, Maki, or as she became known, Kamen Rider Volt, fought off the Destron attackers. That was several months ago, before the Zoanthrope incursions, and the news still reports occasional sightings of Volt in Touto, though the official story of the Destron Convention Siege was that it was put down by governmental forces that came in to secure the area. Kamen Rider Volt, along with her later companion Karasu Haruko, have become common sights in the urban legends of superheroes in Touto.
Since that day, Maki has, to put it lightly, woken up, gone to school and fought villains as Kamen Rider Volt, unbeknownst to her grandfather, who remains oblivious to his granddaughter's activities. For her part, she belives that heroism is what she has been looking for, the very thing that she believed she lacked; between possessing superpowers and being able to protect the innocent, what wasn't to like?
Advantage:
Electro-Barrier: Maki's abilities utilise electricity, and her armor allows her to generate rudimentary barriers from electricity generated from her strikes. Whenever Maki executes electricity-based attacks, Maki gains a temporary shield around herself, noticeably reducing the damage of the next attack she takes. Her shields stay up as long as Maki is in combat and slowly fade away if she exits attack range.
Stats: 19/19
Melee: 8. Maki's attacks are very physically strong and her power is only increased by the electricity that charges within them. However, she isn't particularly skilled at melee combat, relying mostly on brute force and sheer guile to win.
Ranged: 0. Maki could theoretically blast opponents with lightning bolts, but she hasn't quite figured out how.
Mobility: 6. Maki is quite nimble and agile in a fight, but average in running speed except while executing charges.
Defense: 5. Her armor is durable, but it is a combination of sheer willpower and her
Electro-Barrier that make up the most of her durability.
Skills:
Electro-Drill Dive [3]: Maki charges up with electricity and initiates an unstoppable charge that she can use to nab an opponent or escape, pushing enemies who are not targeted by it aside. If an opponent directly targeted by
Electro-Drill Dive is struck successfully, they are thrown back and temporarily stunned by the force of the charge; if the enemy hits a wall or terrain as the result of Maki's charge, they will take heavy damage.
Rising Voltaic Charge [4]: Maki charges her fist up with electricity and launches herself forwards to strike an enemy with a powerful blow. The attack has enough force to throw an enemy off balance. Maki can follow up the first attack with a second dash immediately afterward, which deals less damage but has farther range. The first and second dashes can track enemies into the air.
Charged Electrizer: Passive. Maki's
Electro-Barrier leaves residual current in her body after wearing off which her armor converts to more energy into her attacks in addition to being useful for barriers. Every
Electro-Barrier trigger increases the damage of Maki's next offensive move.
Thunderbolt Barrage [6]: Maki charges up with electricity and performs a series of four reckless dashes, with any dashes that collide with enemies dealing massive damage and knocking them back; just as with
Electro-Drill Dive, if the enemy collides with terrain as a result, they take even heavier damage. However, Maki receives some recoil due to the recklessness of the charges putting massive strain on her body.
Supers:
Great Lightning Press: A very powerful electrically-charged attack. Maki uses the current remaining from her earlier attacks to amplify an already-powerful attack against the target; the resulting attack deals more damage the more damaging Skills Maki has landed upon the enemy. Enemies within close range of the affected target are knocked back by the force of the blow. This attack is difficult to miss at close range. The
Electro-Barrier from this attack can take a lot more damage than average barriers.
