"I am simply a.....commoner, lending my skills to the Order."

5192
Deidre curtseys a little in return; her mother had always taught her to carry herself with the grace of a lady, even if she wasn't one. That included, of course, being polite.
"I am....Deidre. It is a pleasure to....meet you."

5193
Deidre masks her surprise with her mild expression. Her visible tensing, however, is not as well hidden. Unlike many of the savvier members of the court, she hadn't heard anything of the other initiates into the Order.

She shies away a little from the hooded man. Her voice, when she speaks, is noticeably quieter and less forceful than it already was.
".....yes."

5194
Deidre lingers around the entrance to the hall, her neutral expression hiding her confusion and mild amazement.

Just a few weeks ago, the girl was living in the Marwick Fens, alone with naught but her mother's old things and the various creatures that dwelt within the Fens, living on her own and getting by. Then all that chaos happened; the villagers started stealing glances at her as she wandered around, more and more of them started sneaking into the Fens, and then of course....

Deidre shuddered, remembering the close call she had had with the stake as the witch-crazed village elders had dragged her out of her home to be burned alive. If the Order hadn't saved her, only the gods knew what would be of her.

Then she'd been on a whirlwind of things, from leaving the village after explaining everything to having people tell her that her magical rituals were akin to those of the Fair Ones, the old rulers of Galwalas, to being invited to join the Order (not that she could say no, they had saved her life after all)-

The girl exhaled. It was overwhelming, the weight of recent events.

She was a stranger in a foreign land. The girl could feel eyes on her back- from who, she could not say. Deidre backs towards a column, the stone edifice making her feel a little safer with support behind her.

5195
A willowy-looking young woman, dressed in fine garments, steps forward after the sour-looking man. Her face is calm, a melancholic air about her.

"I swear upon my life, that I shall aid the Order in all of its ventures and do my best to assist them." Her voice is light and soft; her declaration, however, is the opposite, firm and backed with purpose.

The GM seems to have chosen some players based on the OP, but we haven't started anything yet and there's been no official post it. It was stated we were going to start by monday, but that came and went.

I think we distracted him with our talk of coconuts and character avatars.
USEC's been busy with RL stuff, according to the Discord.

Well, I also mostly left Aoife, Naoise and Branwen to the imagination, but I'd like to think that they all wanted to protect their child/grandchild. Branwen did do some magical charms to keep their little family out of danger.

Naoise is a bit harder; considering the timeline, I doubt Naoise would've been around long enough for Deidre to remember much of him, especially as he "disappeared" into the wilderness one day, but considering he went with Aoife instead of ditching her when she went into exile, I doubt he wouldn't have cared for her. Aoife's the easiest; she definitely did watch over her daughter and teach her everything she knew; raising her alone in a swamp must've been difficult.

So yeah, Deidre's issues would probably be nothing to do with her parents and everything to do with the fact that she grew up in a swamp and her first exposure to the world was to be burned at the stake for witchcraft :P

Although being the only actual squire among all these knights is going to be interesting.  Putting on medieval armor without a squire to help you is really hard.  Likewise maintaining it.
I wouldn't put too much stock into that; this is a setting where magic exists and the Fae are everywhere, not the Dung Ages where people care about practicality. :P
