I sort of think Darnos is a foil to Medea in some ways.

His power is to break things, hers is to keep things together (gravity manipulation)
Both of them do have emotions, but well hidden
Both rely on logic, but he uses it to break others, she uses it to fix things
Both of them have some sort of psychological excuse to be what they are.

Think of it as Darnos being a particularly affable troll and Medea being a particularly cold....anti-troll? Shepherd was a term for it.
