I think Ella's the most powerful of the magic girls.
She managed to bring back the dead completely, before unintentionally destroying a flame made by a god with the power. And she dug Matt's corpse out of a pit which not even Anima trying her hardest could pull him out of.

Hestia doesn't know Matt's alive. She just knows that Matt's body's gone.
She fully expects the Layars to be carrying his corpse on a pike to demoralise the heroes.
