I have an answer for Barth, at least. He carries mostly dried - and sometimes, ground - herbs, which are light. The fact he is used to it, like one of those trekking people who carry large backpacks, and he does train his body also helps. The heavier things in his backpack are the flasks and bottles (a lot of which he broke already), his tents and blankets.

That seems like a modern composite bow, but judging from the fact it does not come from a time in which those existed, I'd say it is Rule of Cool.
