Name: Cecil Cunningham the Third. He especially likes to emphasise the 'Third' part of his name.
Age: 25
Gender/Sex: M/M
Description: Cecil is a rather tall man, standing at 6'3". His physique is athletic and toned, albeit not overly so; this is indicative of his extensive training in the ancient fighting art of the Drunken Fist of the Seven Sisters, and his lifestyle as a field doctor for an archaeological expeditionary group. His hair is a dusty blond, windblown and mussed from the adventuring he gets up to. Cecil's eyes are a piercing blue, their brightness reminiscent of a child's questioning eyes. His preferred attire are rather light shirts and khaki trousers with thick black boots, allowing him to tolerate the hot climate where his group tends to dig out artifacts. He also owns a nice fedora, but hardly wears it, preferring to let the wind run through his messy hair to keep his head cool.
Personality: Cecil is outwardly brash and boisterous, often given to making loud declarations of 'serving justice' and 'protecting the innocent' in a fight. This is partly due to his flair for the dramatic, and partly to intimidate his opponents and confuse them; after all, what opponent would assume that such a buffoonish, middle class-looking young man could possibly annihilate them in a fight? Of course, this hides two things. One, his nice, laidback nature outside of battle, albeit with the dramatic flair still inherent. Two, his tricksy nature; Cecil's skill in battle comes not from physical strength or mastery of his art, though he has both in relative abundance, but from unpredictability and nigh-insanity when fighting.
Aside from that, Cecil is a great lover of literature, loving the great plays of his world. And beneath all of that, though he tries to hide it well with hamminess and bravado alike, Cecil is rather vulnerable to the compliments of a pretty woman, especially one who he already has affection for. On a more serious note, Cecil has a deeply-seated desire to prove himself, desiring to prove himself to be a man who can stand up to and equal with the Noble Line of Cunninghams and the ancestry of the Drunken Fist of the Seven Sisters that his mother represents.
Backstory:
The Cunningham family has had a long, storied past as a family of adventurers and heroes. In history, the first recorded Cunningham, the Lord Cecil Cunningham, was a famed warrior who fought in the King's army from his teens into his eighties, dying in a fierce final stand to hold off an oncoming rebel force to protect his King. Another Cunningham was a famed seafarer, slaying undead pirates from times past with his bare hands and being one of the most feared privateers of the high seas. Yet another was a skilled spymaster for one of the Queens of old who engaged in many different adventures in foreign, exotic lands.
The last three generations of Cunninghams- all named for Lord Cecil- have been rather storied themselves; Cecil the First was a famed archaeologist who fought off awakened ancient zombies and evil bandits alike during his adventures into deep Memphis, bringing out millenia of lost history with his expeditions. Cecil the Second was a war hero during a great war, named the Rabid Dog for his often-suicidal but successful charges into the enemy lines and into no man's land to protect and rescue his comrades. Unsurprisingly, Cecil the Second was killed in action after holding an Imperial force of enhanced supersoldiers from Kreuzberg off single-handedly with his bare fists and a makeshift sword carved from a shovel.
After that, it was unsurprising that Cecil the Second's son was raised by his distraught mother to be a quiet, bookish gentleman by the name of Jonathan, who was an avowed pacifist and lover of literature, though he had a strange taste for writing about the likes of Achilles and Joan of Arc. His taste in women, however, was more akin to the former than the latter.
Our story now brings us to the East, almost a thousand nine-hundred years ago.
There were many competing styles and schools of fighting in the Orientlands, many who favoured the bare fist over a sword or a polearm. One of the many schools of fighting was the Heavenly Fist of the Seven Sisters, taking their name from what men call the Pleiades today. Their focus was on using the fist to engage in swift flurries of blurry punches, channeling power drawn from the wells of the soul to enhance the power of this blow. Predictably for a martial arts school named for the Pleiades, the school split into seven sects, the master of each who had created a different legendary technique of the school. Each master passed their arts down to their students, who carried on theirs to the next generation and so forth.
One of the schools was the Drunken Fist of the Seven Sisters, emphasising confusing the opponent with seemingly slow and drunken movements before releasing all one's physical and spiritual energy into swift flurries of surprisingly blinding speed. The art of the school was passed down over the long centuries, each generation having one successor who carried on the school to their own students, often their children, either adopted or biological, though sometimes there were students who weren't so. Practitioners of the Drunken Fist of the Seven Sisters, along with the other six sects of the Heavenly Fist of the Seven Sisters, have been assigned to protect the rulers of their land from demons and traitors alike.
The last generation's successor was not intended to be the successor; a young girl by the name of Chizuru Aisaka, who was the daughter of the man intended to be the successor of the Drunken Fist of the Seven Sisters. Of course, he was then hit by a car and died instantly. His teacher, lacking any other students in the art, decided to teach Chizuru instead. The young girl became a heroine of justice, being as she was a poor orphan girl. She made a name for herself, using her skills as the next successor to protect the people of her country. She also taught others the art, to ensure that even if she were to die fighting villainy, the Drunken Fist of the Seven Sisters would survive to the next generation, just as it had done for years before.
Chizuru Aisaka, the Successor to the Drunken Fist of the Seven Sisters, and Jonathan Cunningham, Son of Cecil Cunningham the Second, met during an archaeological expedition of the Dominion's in the Orientlands. Chizuru was protecting a child from being hurt by a bunch of bandits seeking to gain something from the expedition, Jonathan on his way to procure a particular book from the local library for the expedition from some friends he knew. It just so happened that both were happening upon the same crime at the same time.
Jonathan chased off the burglar by distracting him, leading the bandit to follow him into an alleyway, while Chizuru beat the bandit to a bloody pulp. Seeing their teamwork, the two chatted afterwards and fell in love instantaneously. The courtship was whirlwind, the chemistry true and the marriage was joyous, albeit with some chatting about Jonathan's choice of bride; rumours silenced when Chizuru challenged any who would not have her marry her beloved in battle. Soon, the pairing bore a child, Cecil Cunningham the Third, who we come to at last.
Cecil Cunningham the Third grew up an adventurer and a gentleman, just like his fathers before him. Just like his mother, however, he was trained in the art of Subaru Suiken from a young age, his mother seeking both to strengthen her son, mold him into a fine hero of justice himself and pass down the ancient art; Cecil took to the art like a duck to water, though Jonathan never approved of his son learning such a violent art. The young man also grew up hearing of the stories of his ancestors; both of the Noble Line of Cunningham and of the legendary exploits of the users of his mother's art. Eventually, Cecil resolved, he would one day prove himself to be equal to the tasks of his mother and father's lines; a hero worthy of both the ancient art his mother taught him and the legendary exploits of his fathers before him.
Eventually, given his training in the art of killing people with one's fist, Cecil ended up in the profession of medicine, as a surgeon. After graduating with full honours, Cecil desired to see the world and attached himself to a band of archaeologists who ventured to the deepest, darkest depths of uncharted lands to collect artifacts. His compatriots were all equally well trained, skilled in martial arts aside of Cecil's own, with one man in particular priding himself on strength conferred by breathing techniques (Wave Breath Enhancement Style) and another a successor of the Heavenly Fist of the Seven Sisters, a practitioner of the Seven Sisters Wind Fist. Of course, Cecil also desired to prove himself as a hero, one equal to the task that his mother and father's own past imposed upon him.
Cecil, for his part, was at home in this group; instilled with the drive for justice and a need to wander the world, being the field medic of a group of travelling archaeologists who were always at threat was the perfect job for him. The noble field of archaeology, of course, was risky in this world; when one had to deal with molemen who insisted on imposing a tyrannical, oppressive regime on the surface and aliens who descended from the stars, toting rayguns to invade the planet after an alien artifact was accidentally triggered, one tends to encounter danger often. Not that archaeologists can't deal with it, either. In a world like this, archaeologists must be skilled and trained in battle; indeed, in this world, they are the new knights errant and must be.
Other:
Name: Jubei
Age: 18
Gender/Sex: Female/Female
Description:
Jubei is a rather tall individual of her species, with one eye covered by an eyepatch from a battle in the wild. She's rather toned from years of battling, with a rather large chest to match. Her voice is somewhat husky, and her remaining eye seems to always be fixed into a determined glare. Her green hair is messy and long, kept in a ponytail to keep it out of her eyes and out of the way of her blades in battle.
Personality: Quiet, contemplative and reserved. Jubei prefers to let her skills speak for themselves in battle. She can occasionally show a motherly, warm side, but it is rare for anyone to be able to break down her defenses to this extent.
Backstory: Hailing from the world of Gijinkamon, Jubei is a quiet Scyther duelist. She was born into a clan of Scizor as one of the smallest individuals. From birth, Jubei was dismissed as a weakling and a runt, who would never amount to anything useful. From a young age, the girl was bullied and mistreated by her clanmates, who viewed the small runt of the family as an easy target. Not willing to surrender to this, Jubei trained night and day, honing her skills and doing her best to fight harder and stronger with the aid of her father, one of the only remaining Scythers in the clan. Soon, Jubei became a skilled duelist, out-fighting and out-duelling many of her Steel-typed brethren through sheer speed and power to compensate for her unarmored body. It was in the aftermath of her attempt to take on the worst of the bullies that she lost both her eye and her honor, being cast out as the tribe wrote her wins off as flukes. Jubei was despondent, until a trainer recruited her into his team in search of a duelist.
Ever since, Jubei has served well on her new trainer's party, engaging the enemy's attackers and defenders alike with blade and wing, often returning victorious from her battles. Still, she remains angered that her honor was lost to, in her words, 'an honorless bastard' and strives to fight on until the day she can reclaim what she lost.
