Pilot:
Name: Joachim 'Jo' Kowalski
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Appearance: A rather lithe, tall man with brown eyes and messy red hair. He is handsome, in a wiry and lanky sort of way; the muscles here and there from working on mechs all day helps in that regard. He's loud and boisterous, for a mech pilot, albeit rather competent and knows his way around a mech. No matter the uniform, he wears a necklace with what appears to be a strange cross-like symbol; he never really expounds on what it is, as well as a scarf with a certain pattern, common to Langenese immigrants from a certain part of Langen. He also likes to wear a work jacket and tool belt on his uniform, carrying around a series of tools to allow him to make some field repairs to his mech. Joachim also has a faint southern Langenese accent, but years of having lived in Terralba have weakened it.
Background: Joachim Kowalski was originally a Langenese resident who immigrated before the war along with the Lindemann family and his mother, Ana Kowalski. He always loved helping his cousin, Iris Lindemann (now known as a hero of the 25th Mech Squad) with mechanical tinkering, being a skilled mechanic in his own right who ended up working to produce mech parts on a production line in Terralba. Back in Langen, he worked with his father to make mechanical parts for export to Terralba and other areas to put into factories or to work on the early mechs prior to the war; when his father died in an industrial accident, Joachim was forced to take control of the family business until the family was invited by the Lindemanns, Ana being the sister of their patriarch, to accompany them to Terralba.
Of course, unlike his cousin, he was no ambitious engineer, simply a brilliant one who knew his way around a cockpit. Nonetheless, he found work and enjoyed working on robots as much as his cousin, even if he didn't precisely want to make huge waves in the world of robots. When the war broke out and Iris was conscripted, Joachim enlisted himself, partially because his experience with mechs was desired on the front line, where fighters who could keep their mechs in tip-top shape were desired, and partially to keep an eye on Iris for her parents who tasked him with watching over her. However, as luck would have it, Joachim was assigned to the 24th rather than the 25th, and then proceeded to be shifted around the front until he was incorporated into the 12th, although he still keeps out for news of the 25th and the exploits of Miss Lindemann. Most other pilots regarded him as a hothead on the battlefield, a gearhead off the battlefield, an absolute sweetheart when it comes to his family and cousin in particular and a dork when it comes to attractive women.
Unlike Iris, however, Joachim had prior experience with mech piloting, being a test pilot for some of the early Ishim-D models produced in the armament process, and so managed to adapt well to the mechs he piloted. It helped that his gunnery and piloting scores were above average during military training, allowing the military to justify fast-tracking him into a mech so he could get into the squad. Indeed, Joachim still spends his spare time working on his robot to fix it.
