DF General Discussion / Re: Effects of fans. (In Toadys Mind series)
« on: September 20, 2007, 08:28:00 am »
When I heard about it from my local mag (pc powerplay), thought it was like nethack except you set up in a corner somewhere and fortified it with dwarves, and ran out and killed stuff out there.  That woulda been fun, but this is even better  :D

DF General Discussion / Re: Dwarf Fortress - the Movie Trailer

and I only had my idea, slightly easier to make because I'm using already-rendered footage...

*cue something similar to start of this one, start up requiem for a dream or some such tune*
dwarves digging into mountain, usual things with farm and such, fortress gets bigger

(as music builds up bit more, dwarves hit the chasm)
*cut to those scenes of moria in fellowship of the ring, with the bucket falling down into that huge cavern*

(unwitting dwarves get owned by passing elephants, as music builds up a bit more)
*goblins show up and ambush the human caravan, maybe a scene straight out of dow with tacs ripping the snot out of some grot squads, complete with force commander batting them outta the way  :D*

(final scene starts up, cue montage-y type scene)
-the mark of chaos intro - that bit where the elves gatecrash the chaos battle, running in firing arrows everywhere and killing everyone
-more scenes from lotr, this time with oliphants running down the rohirrim, and goblins swarming in with the balrog to dispatch the dwarves
-(final bit of tune with that dun dun dundunDUNDUN bit), legolas sliding off the oliphant's trunk *fade out*
*fade in* gimli: still only counts as one....

eh, I needed to put more into it, but you get the idea  :p

read first post - when the fotf threads get too long, they lag up more and this eventually led to multiple forum crashes when people viewed FotF I, which was >100 pages long  ;)

I still think one thing that helped dow bring people into 40k was that when people thought of it they thought painted models, fat guys with huge beards, rulebooks and rulers.

That and the 1st-gen essence engine (as opposed to the 2nd-gen one in CoH) woulda sold a lot of people, being able to actually see your characters battle up-close as opposed to, say, almost every other strategy game bar dungeon keeper and a couple other possible exceptions*, seeing the FC/Bloodthirster sync-kill was always fun to watch  :D

I was thinking along 40k lines...

g Kill the goblin
   :( Drown the noble
E BURN THE ELEPHANT

ok, so it doesn't tint colours but you get what I mean    :D

or :

code:

. . . . . . . . . . . ____ . .
. . . . . . . . . .  __/ |E \__.
. . .  : o . . . . . -0------0-

Elephants.  Killing dwarves and stealing their cars for over 1050 years

In the dwarven justice system, some crimes are considered especially heinous, and are of the highest order of punishment to the perpetrators.  These are their stories *koo-koooooohh*

but crossbow doesn't fit into the lines that the heavy has.  It's a poetic licence used as a single-syllable word like bow gets the message across (of what it is) and rolls off the tounge better.

I am heavy weapons dwarf, and this, is my bow.

It weigh 150[dwarven weight symbol here] and fires 150 dwarfbuck custom-carved bolts at 10,000 bolts a minute.  It cost 300,000 dwarfbuck, to fire this weapon, for twelve second.

[insert lolz here]

*picks up xbow, finds engraving on it by melbil mesbethsodel of dwarves and goblins fighting*

oh armok who touched urist...*looks up* WHO TOUCHED MY BOW?!

Some goblins think they can outsmart me.  Maybe, *sniff* maybe.  But I have yet to meet goblin who can outsmart BOLT...

*cue heavydwarf gunning down gobbos by the dozen*
BoooAAAHHHH HOOOOAAAAAHHHH!!! AAAHHAHAHAAHAA CAN I HAVE SOME MORE!

no really, I ran out of bolts they only came in stacks of 25

dwarves seem to be scientologists, they don't practice the evil pseudo-science of this "psychology" claptrap
