The cavern mapping operation has just begun. I'll take a few screenshots and post any important upates here later. Assuming all goes well, it will be a quick little job and I can have the testing facility up and running in a relatively short amount of time.

I present to you, in all her dwarfy glory, Tarmid!

From the tales I've heard, vampires are little more than leather sacks of blood(In a metaphorical sense. A magical, bloodsucking leather bag wouldn't be all that terrifying), clinging onto the mortal realm and preventing themselves from their "second death"(I.E., crossing over) by feasting on the life essense of the living.

Of course, I've never had the privilege of encountering a vampire, so I can't say whether or not this is true.

Well looks like it's about time for me to head out now.

I think I'll join you. Also, get back to the Goblin thread you! GRRRRR.

I'll start up DF in a bit, then post updates on my cavern exploration progress on the goblin thread. I'll also see if I can get a screenshot of Tarmid for the pantheon.

DF General Discussion / Re: Will Your Dwarves Be Half Speciesist?
« on: October 26, 2011, 03:47:05 pm »
Under my rule, dwarf fortresses are the epitome of empathy and equality.(well, that's what i try to make them, at least). I even have a policy that(usually) prevents the loss of innocent virtual lives.

As long as the half-beasties don't pose any serious threat to the rest of the population, I got no problem with them.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Do you really need gypsum?
« on: October 26, 2011, 03:34:32 pm »
I actually never had any problems being without gypsum or one other like that.
The random few bags from a caravan always seemed to do.

Ironic thing is now, I am playing on my very first fortress -with- gypsum and loads of it. I've never ever had gypsum on my embark before.
So I kiln'ed only 8 - 14 bags and I think my hospital is overflowing.. luckily there isn't a game mechanism for gypsum + water flooding..

Would make one nice massive statue filled with injured dworfs?

Lies! Gypsum doesn't really exist, that's just what the merchants tell me so that I don't ask where all gypsum powder actually comes from.

Other countries, of course!
Fair enough. ROB THE *insert generic poor asian country here* HORDES!

Just don't turn around and head for Greenland.
We have winter hardened hunters who can easily adapt to hunting humans, ven pirates.
Oh and we have Polatrbear Calvalry.
So to sum it up: You are quite dwarfy. Do your bears drink booze, too?

Don't answer that. it's a pirate trick to find out whether or not Greenland is worth raiding at all.

DF General Discussion / Re: Mining moods?
« on: October 25, 2011, 11:08:47 pm »
Honestly, miners can go from dabbling to legendary in a pretty short amount of time with just normal work, so it just kind of seems like a wasted mood. I'd much rather have a legendary mason.

You don't watch my little pony? What the hell are you doing?

I thought everyone in these forums can name all of the MLP.

Not that it's a bad thing, though.

It's obvious that he puts a large amount of time and effort into DF, then allows anyone to experience it free of any cost whatsoever, and even takes what other people would enjoy into consideration, when he could simply go, "it's my game, and I'll do whatever the hell I want with it".

It wouldn't be fair if he didn't get to build it how he wanted.

press prt scn, (or the equivelant), paste it onto some img. doc like paint, then use a file sharing website to get the pic here ;]

Seriously that sounds like an UBER important god.
Mountains, volcanoes, fire war and fortresses?

MAGMA GOD :D
Awesome, I'll see if I can post one sometime later.

And actually, she seems to be one of the less followed deities in the civ. One of the more popular ones being a god that takes the from of a male red squirrel, and is associated with trees, oceans and salt.

You're definitely the top contributor, that's for sure. But this is an endeavor for ‼SCIENCE‼ and ◄DISCOVERY►, the likes of which the whole community will benefit from.
This thread is the vessel that will be used to uncover some of the greatest mysteries in the entire realm of Dwarf Fortress, morals. We dare not place ownership on such sacred things.

And now an update on my incredibly slow progress:

Everything is nigh in place, all that is left to is draft a couple dwarves, dig out a stairwell, and I can begin mapping out the caverns.
Caught some more snatchers and ambushers recently(R.I.P. wandering furnace operator), Probably have more than enough now. I guess the results of the tests will decide the fate of the ones left over.

I'm actually starting to feel pretty bad for the snatchers that keep showing up like flies. I've found myself hoping that they manage to escape the maze before the soldiers catch up to them. One almost made it out alive, reached the final turn of the incomplete wall, but he ran into an off-duty swordsdwarf, who then proceeded to show her baby what the insides of a goblin look like.

Also, I became a barony, meaning my mayor/bookkeeper/broker now has another title under his belt. Busy little fella, but he gets the work done. I'll build him an underground mansion or something when I get the time.
