I have a god(or goddess, can't remember) in my civ that is almost exactly identical to Urist. But instead of caverns, it's fire.

Managed to find her, and I must say this may very well be the most dwarfy goddess in history.

I don't know how to take screenshots, so I'll just quote it:

Perhaps...we have had it wrong all this time. If the goblins are really the ones in control, summoning the inhabitants of hell at their will for whatever purpose they see fit(a general, leader, lawgiver, ect.),not only would it mean that we have greatly underestimated them, or that they have mastered dark arts beyond imagination, but that they have the ability to somehow tame demons.

Then again, there,s always the possibility that they are desperate in their struggle for survival, and are attempting to releasing the fiends of hell as a last resort. but that wouldn't really explain the extra goblins you found.

Sounds like stuff straight out of a horror movie. Hopefully my trip to the caverns will be a little more orderly, and won't end up adding any more things to my SINTGD list(like forging more sarcophagi).

Currently, the only visable living thing in there is plantlife, and a small tribe of olm people, peacefully attending their business atop an underground mountain. Who knows, perhaps the little scouting trip will go along smoothly, without any casualties on either side. And I can get to constructing that test facility.

Replace "Ms. hannigan" with "Ms. Girlinhat", orphanage with dwarf fortress, and I think it fits rather nicely.

Although, to be honest, this is what I imagine every player's fortress children to be like to be like when they're not looking.

Haven't tried caging it yet, plus this is a friendly goblin, not a merchant one, so I have honestly no idea yet.

That nature reserve idea sounds amazing. Please keep us posted as I work to recruit/arm a couple dwarven scouting squads to explore the caverns(when I have the time to play, of course)

Quick question, how would you rate the combat abilities of olm people?

Probably around two years. I embarked on an area where the entire third layer was an aquifer. I tried making it work, but I couldn't stand the fact that I was only leading more and more dwarves to their demise. 'Twas the only time I've ever abandoned a fortress.

Despite taking a slightly more vertical route with Gorerape, I personally prefer my fortress to have a nice sprawling cave city look.

I honestly have no idea what is going on with all this pony stuff lately, my little brother really seems to like it though. But, like all things, it too, will pass.

Also, since it's common knowledge that I am secretly worshiped by everyone as their undeniable god and savior, you can rest assured that i am not, in fact, a brony.

The king has returned. Nice to see the thread was saved from another possible major derail.

Anyway, no new progress on the beneath-cavern testing facility(been busy), but filiusenox's theory did give me an idea:

What if the goblins are similar the prawns in district 9?

They are intelligent, emotional beings who live in very large numbers, but lack any sense ownership. Mayhap they steal children, not because they are tying to spite anyone, but because they simply like kids. They see dwarven children and take them because, to them, there is nothing wrong it.

At the very least, it's a possibility. I'm going to have to contemplate this idea a little further...

I recently caught some ambushers as well(R.I.P. stray baby animals). Meaning I will be able to pit snatchers vs. seigers vs. ambushers in various arrangements to see if they are all truly on the same team.

I was not able to find any place in the top layers aesthetically pleasing enough for my testing facility, so I have decided it will simply be built beneath the caverns. I'm working on several considerable projects at once, so I'm not sure how long that will take(still want to send a scouting party down there first). But it will be one of my top priorities.
