DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: I lost one...

King Dza, calm down:P

Goblins hang dead bodies on spikes everywhere! They worship demons instead of hurtling bolts at them! Imagine the unhappy thoughts those children get when they smell miasma everywhere in a dark, dark fortress.
Not like a good dwarf fortress, where every child is allowed a goblin kill a year.

Also, that does sound pretty cool. If only the goblins shared the same respect.
Have you tried throwing the dead bodies off a tower instead of a mountain? :D
Better yet, why not live ones? :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Heh, that was written a while back. I just sigged it because people seemed to like it. Now, I'm on an everlasting quest to discover the truth behind the mysterious nature of the goblins(among other creatures). But you should already know that. :)

Although, for the record, I still consider myself an enemy of Armok, and I also still plan to make my king haul every last rotting corpse from the DeathMaze by himself, should he decide to show up.

I'd like to think I have gotten past the title of "newb", yet I still found a few of these to be pretty helpful(never knew how to strip creatures, for example). Many thanks.

It's neat. I keep thinking this thread is gone for good, and then I see right back on the first page again.

Lovely.

That will be my new quest to work on as I delve into the realm of DF. To learn about the moral stances of the various races in their entirety, and then create some sort of detailed virtue chart describing them all. Also, I will do my best to ensure that all savage murder on my part is only done in the name of ‼SCIENCE‼ and ☼RESEARCH☼.
Looks like I just became a philosopher king. Groovy.

Oh, and I have nothing against kobolds personally, but when your entire species dies out, because you forgot how to eat, it's safe to say that you might not be the most intelligent beings on the planet.

Melt the lead pipe down, go into a mood, and attempt to create a lead warhammer, but then go stark raving mad once he realized he didn't have any cave spider silk cloth.

What would Urist do if he could time travel?

Change his name to Armok.

What would Urist do if Armok invited him over for tea?

I already have two snatchers captured, along with several siegers. The final step before testing was making an area to actually test in. But yeah, kind of expected caverns to be a little deeper down...
Nonetheless, once i find another suitable area, and the time to actually work on it, the testing shall commence.

And you have a very good point there, the sort of feral behavior associated with goblins wouldn't quite seem to fit, considering they are a race of sentient, immortal beings, with civilizations almost as old as the world itself. If they didn't have the ability to adapt and learn at least somewhat, they would probably die out long before they could even become a threat(*cough*kobolds*cough*).

Fascinating. It seems very strange how a creature could seem so just and honorable, while at the same time being a sadistic, emotional wreck. Hopefully Toady will someday begin to flesh out the various races of the world, so that the absolute truth can be known. Until then, I shall continue gathering all the information I can. Mayhap I will start looking into goblin lore outside of dwarf fortress in order to learn more about their nature.

Although, my experiment will involve pitting hostile goblin snatchers and siegers against eachother to see whether or not they will fight. Or rather, it would have...

Upon digging out a nice little spot for my testing area, I accidentally breached the caverns for the first time ever, then discovered a vast underground expanse or something like that, and then the second layer of the caverns, all simultaneously. So that sidetracked the project a bit...

My scheme is usually to pick my military, anyone who has "doesn't really care about anything anymore", give them axes, lock the gate, and assign them to justice.  Once this lead to my entire fort crumbling except one steel-clad individual with a candy axe, who had freshly accrued 30 named kills and was unhappy, but had taken joy in slaughter lately.

And then the migrants came, and the migrants built coffins to clean up their new home.  Sometimes I'm surprised by how stoic dwarves can be.  After just coming from the lush and comfortable mountainhomes, they arrive to see bodies impaled on spikes, dwarven blood smeared over EVERY SINGLE WALL, and the only person to greet them is a mayor drenched in blood, holding an axe, who orders them to build coffins to dispose of the rotting corpses in the hallways.  Instead of saying "This is some Texas Chainsaw Massacre bullshit" and leaving, they run inside at top speed and start crafting some stone.  I love it.

Assuming they are in the same position as the starting seven when they arrive on the site, travelling for months through unknown lands and low on supplies by the time they arrive, I would think it would be more of a "well, fuck. Too late to go back now" attitude. In which case, the best course of action would probably be to do what the blood covered, axe wielding lunatic tells you.

Unfortunately, kobold killing is not an option for me. Even if i wanted to. I'm not willing to gen a whole other world when I've just barely begun to scratch the surface of my current one. Someday, though...

Eh, I guess it's alright. Senseless kobold slaughter would violate my policy anyway.

Find out how to do the same with magma.

Dear god, It's been so long since I've heard that song. Almost makes me wanna go dig around for the old VHS tape I got.

Now those guys truly were the original starting seven.
