Water, I can't get past the world generation on 34.01. This is just the latest version of Meph's Masterwork, which hasn't moved to DF2012. Plus it was a perfectly normal savage biome on a lovely volcano inhabited by chronically-depressed livers with legs.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Girly Zombie Science

I want to know how well the undead die by magma. In the previous version undead that were in 7/7 pools of magma didn't die, they just sat there and burned. I think this was due to burns not causing death by carbonizing or incineration but by bleeding. My main concern is that a piece of zombified hair has no bloodstream to bleed out so when dipped in magma we'll suddenly have hundreds, if not thousands, of living, moving torches chasing dwarves down leaving trails of fire. I tried to weaponize it, but apparently some undead panic when caught on fire and will promptly run to the map edge.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Elf caravan arrives, promptly bursts into flames
« on: February 16, 2012, 09:42:00 pm »
So I got this notification that an elven caravan has arrived and that it has started raining. Pretty normal occurrence. I usually wait until they arrive at my depot before bringing out the goods mainly for security reasons. So I'm waiting, giving digging instructions and watching the depot for their arrival. The fortress is on a volcano so its very difficult to see where anything is. Then I notice that my dwarves are pathing outside and bringing in all sorts of things, all sorts of wooden things. I looked around and found a pile of equipment, rope reed items, absurd wooden weapons, surface booze, and animals in cages. A pile of elf gear sitting at the center of a spreading circle of fire. There was no reports of combat or anything. Just poof. Gone. Did it get struck by lightning?  ???

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Absurdly low FPS in new version
« on: February 16, 2012, 04:04:54 pm »
I've had it happen where there was a hole into hell and there was a giant, never-ending cascade of magma pouring in from the magma sea. At 7 dwarves I was getting the same FPS as a pop 200 fortress. To note I also somehow dug a 3x3 stairwell 60 z lvls without hitting a single cavern.

Either the invaders for my save are broken, or they just got really smart and started avoiding fortresses built into the side of a volcano.

The elves sold me a pair of queer giraffes. I want my money back.

It is now too fat to live.

Got to year 225 in world gen and then my processor redlined.

I've embarked on a volcano, I've never had it where the magma was easier to get than water before. Using reveal I've found an underground lake hugging the main tube (there are two!)  something like 35-40 levels below the planned lowest limits of my fortress. I'm definitely going to need a well for injuries, digging there will be quite a project and I'll have to start brewing before anything else so my dwarves don't die of thirst.  Fortunately we have a sand layer on a shelf. I wish there was a way to set up a rain collector. This big tube o' hot death is going to play hell with my usual semi-symmetrical designs.
Inflicting this on my enemies should be easy though, a single floodgate and a small fortified tunnel will probably kill any siege. Multiple gates set in cardinal directions will make that volcano into a direct fire weapon.

I modded in a reaction for borax-based laundry detergent and the world promptly ended.

Well this version just generated a 550 year map without crashing five times. I guess I can stick it out for 3 years. Bluh...Armorrock had such a good location though. I'll find a better one.

Wait...there's an auto-dump function?  :o

I use reveal for two three  things, checking for a magma pipe, checking for iron ore, and putting in pump-stacks.

Huh, apparently Meph sneaked in an updated version but there's no version number update to go by.

Evidently each fortress only ran about 3 or 4 years, then crashed.
