DF Gameplay Questions / Fortification Z-level
« on: April 10, 2013, 07:10:35 am »
I've tried looking through the wiki for this, because I could have sworn I heard something about this before. Are you able to build a wall off the ground zlevel, and then place a fortification on it, but still have your marksdwarfs shoot? It would look something roughly like this.

         F
_____WWr

With the double walls providing flooring, the fortification 1zlevel above ground level, and a ramp to reach the wall.

If you can, what's the rough accuracy falloff the further up you go? Say, for a construction two walls and one fort high, or three and one fort.

Edit: It would never bloody fail that as soon as I ask for help, I find it myself.

For anyone else looking for answers, http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2012:Security_design#Simple_5x5_Archer.27s_Tower

Got rotten food in my kitchen that dwarves will neither dump nor stockpile. What do I do with it?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Points and Demigod
« on: November 04, 2011, 03:22:09 pm »
Out of curiosity, is there a file that I can edit to modify the points value assigned to the demigod class of heroes to raise or lower it?

If so, what is it called, and where might I locate it? I'd done several searches of the DF folder with 'Hero, Demigod, points, skills' and other assorted keywords, yet have not come up with anything. It -is- in there somewhere, right?

DF Gameplay Questions / Evil Biomes and Civs

To a person who has never modded the game in any way, not even for a texture pack--how do you force Dwarfish, human and elvish civilizations to spawn in evil regions? I'm attempting to cover the world in evil with the world creator, however it seems as if the dwarfs are smart enough not to run headfirst into evil here. (Oh god, I never thought I'd say that.)

DF Gameplay Questions / Adventuring!

Out of an interest in fooling around with Adventure mode, I am curious to know if there is a file that I might edit to give the 'Demigod' rank more points to spend. I know there's a perfectly good Arena, but the curiosity remains.

DF Gameplay Questions / Stupid Dwarves.

They won't haul alcohol from from the still to the stockpile just down the hall. I made sure that the darker spots on the plan weren't blocking the door this time--I learned from poor Urist McJeweler who almost died of thirst trapped in his own workshop!

I've tried removing the stockpile and replacing it, removing all settings, unpausing, and then re-adding the drink settings to the stockpile--the only thing I'm reluctant to do is destroy my still, because the resulting drinksplosion will cover the entire kitchen in barrels of wine and ale.

DF Gameplay Questions / Floater

Or, rather we should call it a sinker, since he was clad head to toe in my finest copper armor. My dwarf decided to take a swim wearing full armor on him and drowned whilst doing it (surprise), and I'd like to reclaim the body. None of my dwarves seem to be willing to take a dunk in the murky pool he fell into, however. Not that I blame them.

How do I recover the drowned dwarf? I'd like to put him to rest before his ghost starts haunting me.

DF Gameplay Questions / Gem bin issues
« on: September 16, 2011, 12:48:50 pm »
I was poking around the wiki not too long ago, and I discovered this wonderful storage device called a bin. I had never really paid attention to it before, but when I found out that it could store bars and gems, I had to have that thing--I figured it would free up a hell of a lot of space, and it did! I went from a full 20x20 gem stockpile to only forty six bins, and that's freaking amazing.

However, it seems as if my jeweler is incapable of removing rough jewels from the bins to cut. Why is this, and is there a way to convince him that the bins are full of jewels? He certainly doesn't believe -me-.
