DF Gameplay Questions / Stupid Dwarves.
« on: November 02, 2011, 08:25:23 am »
They won't haul alcohol from from the still to the stockpile just down the hall. I made sure that the darker spots on the plan weren't blocking the door this time--I learned from poor Urist McJeweler who almost died of thirst trapped in his own workshop!

I've tried removing the stockpile and replacing it, removing all settings, unpausing, and then re-adding the drink settings to the stockpile--the only thing I'm reluctant to do is destroy my still, because the resulting drinksplosion will cover the entire kitchen in barrels of wine and ale.

My first dwarf death in thirty days of playing came from water.

Not the five invasions.

Not accidentally flooding my base with lava.

Not even from the cave in on my third fortress.

Urist McDumbass ran away from a vulture, into a pool of water. And drowned.

A vulture.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Elf punishment.

In before Necro sees the 'M' word.

I actually slaughtered my first elves the other day. I'm rather concerned about it, as I didn't do it -intentionally-. My dwarf was a true dwarf, and walked right up and stabbed him in the gut with his sword, the poor fellow. But hey, free crap at the trade depot, what could possibly be better?

I wish I could butcher the corpse and make elf fat soap.

Option two appeases to my laziness. Do I require both a detailer and a mason, or only one?

Or, rather we should call it a sinker, since he was clad head to toe in my finest copper armor. My dwarf decided to take a swim wearing full armor on him and drowned whilst doing it (surprise), and I'd like to reclaim the body. None of my dwarves seem to be willing to take a dunk in the murky pool he fell into, however. Not that I blame them.

How do I recover the drowned dwarf? I'd like to put him to rest before his ghost starts haunting me.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Gem bin issues

Quite bizarre. Perhaps I'll dig a second entrance to the gem stockpile and mess with the walls about the jeweler. If I find the solution, I'll mention it.

EDIT: Well, TIL jewelers have a wall built into their workshop blueprint. I managed to build poor Urist into a cubbyhole with the workshop wall sealing him in. Needless to say, he was not pleased by this, not even in the least bit.

It seems as if they do, and poor Urist here can't make heads nor tails of the situation.

Also, the gems are 'Morion, Rock Crystal, Brown Zircon and Clear Zircon'. Would the clear zircon be causing the other gems to bug as well, if stored in the same bin?

DF Gameplay Questions / Gem bin issues

I was poking around the wiki not too long ago, and I discovered this wonderful storage device called a bin. I had never really paid attention to it before, but when I found out that it could store bars and gems, I had to have that thing--I figured it would free up a hell of a lot of space, and it did! I went from a full 20x20 gem stockpile to only forty six bins, and that's freaking amazing.

However, it seems as if my jeweler is incapable of removing rough jewels from the bins to cut. Why is this, and is there a way to convince him that the bins are full of jewels? He certainly doesn't believe -me-.
