DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: How to get rid of magma?

melphel, that's the idea, but since grates won't connect to each other, a floor made only of grates is impossible. Making smaller grates sections surrounded by walls/floor might be the next best thing, at least it'll get rid of a lot of magma.

Something like this, maybe
Code: [Select]
###
#+#
###
Place floors on walls and link grates all around. Yeah, sounds good

It's a pit under a bridge, not an execution pit, so it's quite large

I haven't made the pit yet, just planning

Pumps pump fast, yeah, but only from one tile. Getting a room full of 7/7 magma to that single tile through normal means will still take longer than I'd want it to

A pump would still leave a 1/7 coating of magma everywhere though, wouldn't it? And it'd be slow even getting to that point, given how slowly magma spreads

If I were to drop a certain amount of goblins into a magma pit, what would be the easiest way to recover the spoilers? I'd planned a drawbridge over a floor made of grates, but apparently grates can't support each other

Don't use a drawbridge, it'll make them fall randomly. I think the best way to test this would be via manual pitting, rather than lever-activated

Coalvirgin has decided to go where no dwarf has gone before (at least in my game) and mined out 3 layers of bluemetal surrounded by rock. Now everyone's looking at the raw candy, trying to think of something appropriately awesome to do with it

You need to thaw both the beginning and the end of the river, which might actually be impossible since you can't dig the map's borders

Maybe that's the place you've embarked on. Dwarves tend to prefer local history, and your location must've once been a battleground

So much has happened in so little time, at the start of Coalvirgin's 4th year. A Desert Titan made of mud was quickly dispatched, and made the world go into the Age of Legends. I started working on my "train up useless migrants to be weaponsmiths moodable" project, and right after a peasant turned into a weaponsmith, he moods and claims a Magma Forge. He grabs a single gold bar and makes Sunssevers the Strange Organization, a gold war hammer than menaces with spikes of gold. I think I'll let my militia commander have it, and keep the rest of the squad as axedwarves

Hunters (the civilian job, with crossbows) sneak while hunting, so the only danger comes from goblins/other invaders. That said, it's perfectly fine for your dwarves to live on Plump Helmets and Quarry Bush leaves roasts

A simple solution is to just trade for gypsum powder

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Are undead creatures rare?

Started a fort that's partially situated on a Haunted mountain range, hoping to see hordes of zombie badgers and the like, but the only thing that's out of the ordinary so far is a Dark Gnome group that didn't even wander inside the fort. It's currently spring of the second year, so are they just rare?
