I'd much rather keep my private info to myself.

If I've tried to keep it away from corporations and dislike governments coming along and taking it, I don't see why I should suddenly make it available to them.

Just my opinion, though.

Oh sorry I missed your entry. They already know everything about you  :(

Poland, Kraków. Maybe not the best climate you can imagine, but it's no Moscow either. Right now is pretty cold, which means ~-6 deg Celcius. The summers are hot but not scorching, and it's generally pretty mild.
The prices are not that much different.
A 1 bedroom apartment rent goes for around $800, a single room in a shared house/apartment is around $200.
Cigarettes are twice as expensive, alcohol is a bit cheaper ($7 for a 0.5L bottle, $9 for a 0.7). Meals are ~$8, or as cheap as $5 if you don't mind eating with the students. Don't know much about fallen women though.
Single bus/tram fares are in the vicinity of $1, but you can get a monthly pass for $15 - or less, if you only use specific lines.
Kraków is Poland's major cultural and business centre, so you can expect all the benefits of living in a large cosmopolitan city. Open-minded, English-conversant people, 24/7 shops, theaters, cinemas, operas, clubs, nightclubs, independent and not-so-independent concerts - whatever floats your boat.
My friend working in the similar position to yours says he gets ~$3500/month.
All in all, life is a bit cheaper while you earn a bit less. Ends up pretty much the same as you've described.

Thank you for sharing. I am really surprised about `english-conrvesant people` because I could swear that less than 1% of russians speak english, which is kinda sad. Is it euro thing or is it just happened recently? I also heard from my ukrainian friend that your languages is almost same (true?). Also I heard that poles generally hate russians for all that Soviets stuff happened in the past, but I've never been in Poland to know. Is it persistent or just `old enough to know` people?

Cigarettes - 2$ a pack
My parents should never know this.

I wonder, if you've never been outside Russia, how do you know that Moscow's night life is best in world, or the hell that it's Europe because of the shop scheudles they have? Srsly, you sound like this guy
When did I stated that I've never been outside Russia? Seriously. I stated what I have, you tell me what you have, it's a matter of topic.
Even more, I sound like `this guy`?  I said I want a relocation, how wrong can you be here ... wait stop, did you actually read what i've wrote?
I think he means how you're typing makes you sound like a stereotype, how do I say this, you speak like Russian man.

I don't feel like sharing my living conditions either (spoilers, they're fine) so I would recommend looking at places with temperate climate.  I don't believe Russia has any of that (there might be a small amount of land they own in Europe that is C climate but I don't remember) and it's probably what you want.

Well, thats because I am Russian :D
But I want spoliers, as I said, information is scarce over there. Temperate climate is present in Russia, but there is shit wages, or no jobs at all for my professional area. Thats why I am thinking another country.

This is informative private life details thread, mostly I want you to share about your life expenses and other goodies in a differtent country than mine. I am deeply interested in how your daily life going and how good it is, on average basis. I am currently interested in my body relocation, mostly due to climate and inner hatred to concrete jungle called Moscow. Information with details is surprisingly scarce in internet, usually some obscure blogs.

So lets start

33, single, coder (web)

Location - Moscow/Russia

Climate - quite awful, think 3 months of summer, otherwise it's snow or rain. I get cold often and miss atleast 2-3 days a month atleast. My primary reason I want relocation. I lived for 8 months in Goa and never had a sniff. Thats rang a bell.

Residency - I renting a one bedroom flat in inner city for a 30k roubles/month (1k$/month, later all sums in US dollars for convinience). Thats an average price for one bedroom `not so bad` flat in city fairly close to metro. If you want to change place you have to pay forward triple monthly price - one to broker, one for first month, one for last month. All other stuff usually is not paid, but I do pay electricity bill, which is about 300$/year. Usualy landlords not paying taxes from their rent, but I don't care, ya know, Russia is shady country.
I do change flats most of the time when I change work - travel time is important to me, so if I need more than 30-45 minutes to get to a job I am starting to become unhappy.

Moving my body around - I dont have a car, I actually have no license and I have no idea how to drive. I use a buses and metro. Ticket price is about 1$ one way. My current route - bus/metro/work/metro/bus. So it's cheap and reliable. Traffic in Moscow is pretty sick and you can easily get into jam for 3 hours, any day. And as I said - travel time is very important to me.

Job - I am most senior of my other php flock in one of the biggest sports web sites in Russia. They pays me about 4k$ monthly, past taxes, so I pay for my rent 1/4 of paycheck, which is important for me. Well you know, we want to save some. It's not biggest salary I can get in Moscow, but relative to most other people it's quite high. Russians is not wealthiest folks, you know.
Usually I am in office from 3pm till 8pm. Most regulations force you to stay 8 hours at work but I try to avoid such places. I dont want to spend my time on facebook just to meet that expectation. Anyways, after 5 hours of coding your head is not working.

Expenses - daily lunch is about 10$ in cafeteria. Usually its a salad, soup and some macaroni/buckwheat/rice with meat/fish. My evening meals costs higher but I just hate cooking, thats why. Cigarettes - 2$ a pack, bottle of vodka 10$, hooker 150$, wait what? where am I?

Also there is alot of shops working 24/7, inclduing food delivery. I really value ability to buy food in the middle of night, I keep hearing horror stories that you can't shop around in europe after 6pm.

Entertainment - I dont do entertainment aside from movies/series/games and very rare club stints(night life in Moscow actually very good if not best in Europe). I don't care views, I was on red square first time after living in Moscow for like 5-6 years. And Kremlin is boring. Give me good climate, thats matters.

Okay, give me more details!

I do weep though because along with vastly improved AIs has come... well... the removing of complexity.

There is this great push to handhold players and part of me almost wishes there could be a game like the really old ones (Like Albion and its speach system) with greater AIs.

Then there is the fact that even in RPGs is the story starting to be considered more and more secondary. I mean yeah... early RPGs were pretty much "go kill the monster" but even RPGs with heaps and heaps of story tend to keep it WAAAAY at the side so as to not interfere with what you are doing.

I will take Knights of The Chalice over Planescape Torment any day. I know i know, it's sounds like blasphemy, but for me design and gameplay is a top priority. Many compare PT with a good book. You know? If I need book - I read book. I do it everyday. If I need a game - I play game. I never rated PS Torment  highly. I think it's nothing compared to Baldurs series. And complexity is overrated. Think Dominions 3 complexity - alot of races, spells, everything. But it's all wrong - too many choices. Give me UI, moderate complexity and difficulty for a challenge and a lenght of playtime. I will buy it.

Most modern games is simplified, but have much, much better UI. Do you actually played old XCOM, I mean recently. Gameplay is a chore, to say least. I was spitting and cursing playing it.
Yeah, I played it last night. ._.

And MOO2??! Really?! I agree with you about UI being shit in the 90's (though you really can't blame them; modern devs take for granted having two plus decades of games to look at in order to see how to make a game right) on nearly all accounts except THAT one! That game had absolutely astounding UI, probably the best of its generation! Especially compared to the first and third one! I could (and DID) play that game and play it WELL when I was in fucking middle school! Nor would I condemn ALL 90's DOS games. What about System Shock? Looking Glass (the developers of System Shock) practically INVENTED UI! *stomps out of thread*

Actually yes, I am feel sorry I mentioned MOO2, this game having incredibly good UI for these times, so I apologize for including it. I just needed old game to be placed versus DW, and there is no better thing than MOO2.

Am I the only one who thought Dungeon Master 2 was terribly hard? (Or maybe I was not as skilled as a kid.) Basically I spend the whole game running away from monsters.

Dinosaurs: The toughest enemy in the game? Better run away!
Whirlwinds: Not harmable with normal weapons? Better run away!
Wolfes: Calls the whole pack for support once he takes damage? Better run away!
Kobold-Thief: He steals my weapons OUT OF MY HANDS? Better run away!

It was fun though. ^^

I recently played it through, tho I played single char and used spoily walktrough. Game was not very hard, and most importantly, it's was very short. I think I finished it in 2-3 hours :( Dissapointed a bit I must say.

I have no idea, maybe thats my age, but I rate UI and game design above else now. Most older favorites was created for masochists and nigh unplayable nowadays. And I am know what I am talking about, I replayed many of these.

My latest favorites from design/UI standpoint was XCOM and Dragon Age 2, yes these games was pretty shallow and was infuriatingly short, but still fun and I rate em higher than most titles from 90s.

And yeah, I would prefer Distant Worlds to MOO2 any day, because I dont believe in stupid "These Old Days"

On the other hand we have stupid "indy" games like Dungeons of Dredmor which is regarded as user friendly gateway to roguelikes, but in reality is a garbage with no depth, very poorly designed game. Cmon, new XCOM is a very, very good stuff, I dont miss old one at all.

Bloodbath's still fairly solid -- 25+ hp regen isn't really anything to laugh at, and the stamina boost plus some unending frenzy is still enough to keep shattering impact running fairly easily. Mortal terror is still incredible and unstoppable is still unstoppable. Endgame 'zerkers continue doing what they do by murdering everything with violence.

If you still want crazy regen, go antimagic and pick up fungus.

Huh? 25hps is nothing compared to 500+. It's 20 times lower, actually. I remember some fights in east, 300-500 incoming dps fighting mages was a usual thing. Some lucky crits and we talk about 1k spikes. Antimagic was not working at all, shield was crumbling on first turn. There must be something gamechanging here, I will see and report later. Alot of new things I see now, maybe something missing here.

ZOMG they nerfed bloodbath, no more 500+ regen  :-[ Anybody played lategame berserkers? Is they able to cope with that change?
But seriously, I am SO glad they finally made autoexplore, which I whined about year ago.

Also I have a feeling that they toned down difficulty alot, I am finishing west now, and no close calls in any quest dungeons. Especially it's noticeble in Daikira, which i finished almost on autopilot, while in older versions i shat my pants everytime boulder / lightning hit me around the corner.

Hi,

anybody has some experience with the current state of 'Fallen Enchantress'....in forums I see some complaints about the AI but which strategy game has that not...

So to the guys who played it a lot...do you like it?

Game is now much better from design standpoint, I mean alot better. I pretty much like everything done. This FFH guy did great job, but AI... I played one random map on Normal/Challenging and it's was not challenging at all. I ended up running around with just four warrior heroes smashing things, no problem. Seems like AI cant gather huge armies and strike intelligently. They are very passive and may show their faces after like 20 turns after DOW, which is not seems threatening at all. But, I played just one game, so this must be coincidence or bad turn of events.

Yeah, a tile based GUI would be purty, but I kinda like using my imagination here and there.

Re Gangsters: I have a copy.  LCS is far superior IMO.

Yeah I disliked feeling and depth of Gangsters after watching full LP form some guy on youtube, on the other hand I played LCS for like 14 straight hours yesterday.
I dont think this needs tile graphics, I am talking about Aurora type interface using all screen for information and all drag-n-drop goodies coming with package.

I don't have any idea of what you are talking about

Well, there is huge difeerence between

drag-select all troops in squad and click on make clothes->repair clothes

and

AAD+ENTER+BD+ENTER+CD+ENTER+DD+ENTER+ED+ENTER+FD+ENTER+ENTER

And thats easiest combo so far. And you do similar stuff every 10 seconds. And I am talking about just one squad.
I ended up with my F1-F12 filled with Autohotkey macros just to bear some burden  :P

Quote
, the only issue I see is that it isn't AAA graphics and is instead ASCII.

This comment usually ends up with 'you should watch Transformers instead' on IMDB. Cheap.
I never issued ASCII graphics, I merely asked if somebody ever wanted to replace curses with windows GUI.

Anybody working on it or planning to make it? I just really sank many hours playing this, but interface is unbearable, seriously. It's actually harder than DF, because you have no loitering moments and constantly pushing miriads of key combos to a great frustration.
I am not asking for graphics, but merely streamlined drag'n'drop goodies cheapo style.

I recently had a huge urge for a mafia themed games, but only other game I watched was Gangsters 1 LP and it's not very convincing. Is anywhere other games with LCS depth and better interface I can derp around? Search didnt revealed much discussion on that theme.

Thank you
