...So I was playing with an awesome mod which puts My Little Ponies into the DF universe. And I thought, what would make the game even more in tune with "grimdark" fanfiction (even though it already has pony-flesh cupcakes)? Wait a second... "grimdark"? In the grim darkness of the... yes, that's what it needs! TYRANIDS! And since it's My Little Pony, they'll be PONY TYRANIDS!!! And I did just that.

...and yet another question.
I apparently screwed something up. The gaunt packs do not actively attack. And I found this out only now, about 6 hours into the fort. :/
Probably it's the size: they're a bit smaller than ponies (200000) and [LARGE_PREDATOR] (also [LIKES_FIGHTING]), so they need to be made bigger to be an active menace.
Question: will this happen if I modify the save world folder's raw file?

And if there's another way to make a creature actively attack, please tell me.

Btw, yet another question: is there a way to give a creature a projectile (as in, hydralisk needle spines) attack?

Hmmm.
Maybe I should make the Tyranid Ponies into a unplayable civilization. They'd have a pop rate of about 100:10:1 gaunt:carnifex:bio-titan (maybe some new castes too, like HydralRaveners) and would be as evil as possible and do sieges. That way, not each siege would have a bio-titan in it, but they would be there... and you'd have to really prepare for them.

Of course, they would have no weapons and armor exept their natural ones, and no mounts.

...so, earlier I made a modded metal and its alloy. They worked.

(the reaction class "fel_flux" tag i added to some rarer non-economic rocks)

Today I decided to make some more (because otherwise fighting the critters I also modded would be too much fun).

And these don't work, the smelter doesn't have the new "make ... bars" reaction. I'm sure I defined the metals properly (arena has stuff made of them), I can smelt the modded ore and get saronite bars, but the alloy reactions are nowhere to be found, not even the manager screen.

Wanted to add a Termagaunt caste to the Gaunt pony creature, but found out that the liquid glob attack is not functional (and to give a frequently-appearing creature a mass-affecting acid attack would be too much... fun).

So, I also made an enlarged version of this (Bio Titan Pony, megabeast) and a small one (Gaunt Pony, large roaming in clusters, don't have horn and tentacles).
Despite the remaining weak point (yes, the scythes still get punched off even though they can sever limbs from a bronze colossus) they're formidable. On the arena, the Bio Titan Pony was able to kill a hydra, then a roc, then a colossus and was stopped only by the second colossus. The Carnifex pony mostly kills other SM-beasts in single combat. And I wouldn't wish for nopony to go against a pack of Gaunt ponies, exept maybe in power armor... which is not available in game. Yeah.

This is going to be... fun.

They STILL get punched off, even though I made the material more resistant to impacts than steel

And the material is definitely tyrachitin and not just bone (claw), the carnifex pony was able to sever an iron pony's body with a slash.

Tried to make a tissue out of another material and made the chitin and bone layers out of it.

The scythes are [skeleton], so they should be made of "hard_tyranid_chitin" (I gave it the properties of copper). They still tend to get punched off in combat. What gives?
Also, didn't notice attacks glancing away (not many, at least) from the creature's chitin (which is now that material too).

[upd] well, turns out the copper strength just isn't enough. Gave the hard_tyranid_chitin properties of iron, got much better performance.

I intend it to be more of a menace than the standard SM-beasts. Did some arena tests (against the standard ones); the scythes seem to be quite effective in combat, but they have a tendency to be severed by blunt attacks :/ How do I make them more durable?
