Hey assuming that vampires don't feed off of other vampires, it would be rather easy to double check your findings on if a dwarf was a vampire. All you would have to do would be to stick him in a room with the known vampire. At that point he would either die or be proven a vampire, or maybe both at the same time!

Or you could just toss him in a murky pool. If he floats, he's a vampire. If he drowns, he's not.

Or was that witches? More !!SCIENCE!! needed!

No, you're talking about necromancers and werewolves, if the dwarf swims innately, he's a werewolf, if he drowns and is resurrected, the dwarf in front of him chanting stuff like
IA DAGON! IA CTHULHU! FTAGN1!!!!11!one!! is a perfectly normal dwarf.

Review Magma
Magma unacceptable
If magma does not work, you are not using enough. I will now go make a PTSD Clarinet Boy image.

And all the while you're busy building magma pump stacks, vampires just ate all of your dwarves.
How's your magma going to get through layers of stone?

When you finally do release the goblins into hell, won't they just run off the edges of the map if they aren't actually being attacked by demons? I know that at least invaders can escape if you release them into the caverns, so I would assume that any map edge would work just as well. So though you could use goblins to deal with the initial wave of demons, after that they would all just run away leaving your hell deserted.

If they manage to run away, that means all of the demons have been killed. Otherwise no problem, other than finding an army of legendary gobbos in hell in adventure mode :P

Honestly, I'm hoping more for fright night than twighlight. But Toady's mentioned some random gen in vampires, so maybe I'll get lucky.

Random gen?

YEAAAAH! DWARF FORTRESS VAMPIRES!!!

well I was actually thinking of training room next to a big cistern to flush the gobbos into hell itself ( if that could be designed) and leave them there with no means of getting back up. Close the training room and refill it. This way they can try to keep hell clean on a permanent basis and enjoy the new home I have given them. Gobbos never starve so they will make the perfect defence.

Hmm..... Depends on the type of demons there are, this could swing both ways - the legendary gobbo's could carve their way through all the demons, or be burnt to cinders, on either end of the extreme you'd have a slight nusiance.
As for the reloadable abilities.... Well it's going to be difficult getting the goblins through Hell, I think a simple door would suffice (demons would destroy it, releasing gobbos).

Just get him outside and leave on a sun for few hours, or days maybe. Then we will know if Toady prefers classic fantasy Vampires or Twilight vampires.

Sounds like an ingenious way to beat hfs. Figure out how to get them to equip better gear than what they have, and you may be able to use them to kill initial demon wave for you without any casualties to your dwarves. Dunno if they have enough clothing/armour coverage to deflect all the training spears, but the ones with robes should be able to. After you danger room them, recage them all, and build a contained arena connected to the hfs entrance and put your goblin cage connected to a lever inside. Make sure you can flood the arena with magma afterwards to clean up the mess.

I'm not trying to beat HFS, I'm making a nature reserve :3

Well I am going to invade Hell with over 90 cotton candy dwarves.... But that's for another thread!
I am honestly sickened by the constant waste of the opputunity lost in the slaughter of goblins, they make a great conscript army! Not to mention better training! And you have access to a few dozen legendary fully armed goblins to test your military and train your MEDIX :P

I guess anything with [can_learn] should be able to train, and yes, you should in theory be able to train them continuously, you'll need a way to release them, then get them into the room first, then survive your training spears. I've just built a system where a goblin has to run across into a closed room, where an animal is, and then I lock the door and start pulling levers.

Now I just need a way to automate it, I think recurring pressureplate/corridor should be simple and efficient ^_^

Though with 200, you should try mass releasing outside your danger room (give them enough room so they don't kill each other), and find a way to draw them in.
